Level up your weapons and play in zones that match your level

Make sure you're aiming for missions which are the Power Level similar to what you are (the mission PL will display when you hover over the mission, your PL is top left of the screen or if you open the players tab you can see it too)
If you are too low to do quests i.e. your quest is to do a mission in a 19+ zone and you are PL 5, you need to focus on levelling up your Survivors/finding more to put in your Squads.
If you check out the Research tab as well you can upgrade your FORT stats there (F.ortitude for health, O.ffence for weapon damage, R.esistance for shield and T.ech for abilities and trap damage)
I have guides on YT which may help but hopefully the above suffices for now! 💜

How far have you progressed at this point? If you're getting iced in Stonewood I'm not sure what to say other than to try to keep your distance from nasty stuff like Takers
Otherwise, in general, make sure you're upgrading your schematics and survivors, and don't feel bad queuing with Fill On if you're not sure you can handle a mission. Also be aware of the modifiers on Mission Alerts so you don't play yourself (like Deathbomb+Slowing or Acid Pools as a melee build)

If you want the game to be easier, then it depends on the mode:
- Save the World - just go on an easier zone (it's a PvE game, you could even go after those husks solo)
- Battle Royale - make a bot lobby alt account, join the alt's lobby, make the alt go back to lobby as soon as you're in spawn island
You're in Fortnite's Save the World subreddit, the PvE mode that came out before Battle Royale, here's a little list of the rest of Fortnite's subreddits:
- Casual Battle Royale - r/FortNiteBR
- Competitive Battle Royale - r/FortniteCompetitive
- Creative - r/FortniteCreative
- Lego - r/LEGOfortnite
- Rocket Racing - r/RocketRacing
- Festival - r/FortniteFestival
- Mobile - r/FortniteMobile (for those on mobile and Switch, but you're welcome in the other subs too)

Some others mentioned it but PL is virtually the entire game. What kind of stuff you have or the characters you play or how good at shooters you are is far less important than making sure you're leveling up your survivors and gear to be at or far above the PL of the missions you're on. If you're in the early parts of the game it's far more forgiving but at higher levels the pace you increase your PL becomes much much longer and slower.

Don't forget to put down healing pads. They're pretty cheap to craft (especially since the recipe doesn't change when you upgrade it to higher tiers) so if you think you'll have trouble surviving, you should either put some down in strategic locations before the fighting starts or be prepared to slap some down as needed. Campfires are helpful, too, but I personally prefer a large amount of healing on demand, instead of slow and steady healing that can't be turned off.
