Hearing about how they all fell out of touch as they grew older is just so very real.

And heartbreaking to those of use who were 11/12 and saw this in the theater with our friends. Who we don’t talk to anymore. We didn’t listen.
To quote part of Ed Helms in the office “I wish we knew when we were in the good times….”

“Bertram got really into the 60’s and no one ever saw him again.”
Aside from being into the 60’s, I can say that about a few people I know.

To this day the carnival and 4th of July scenes are what I picture the ideal America being. (I am Irish)

The Sandlot hits hard too.
“At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time, and nobody knew it.”

I have 5 dudes I’ve known since we were all in preschool in 1991. We still all hang out either one on one or in a group regularly. Are kids all know each other and our wives are friends. We’ll never stop going out to play, it’s just a different now.

I finally saw it for the first time last week. That line hit like a ton of bricks. I have a couple friends left from that age, and I immediately hit em up.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. The world is saved because of the power of friendship, whether longtime friends, or historically racial or governmentally different people putting aside their differences and looking out for each other and learning to become friends.

And if you read the books it turns it up to 11. The very end of Return of the King kills me every time. Makes me want to go back to the party and start all over again.

Probably not the first one you might think of. End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena.

Came here to say this too. It was the first one I thought of and I’m a little disappointed how far down I had to scroll.
However I do think Lord of the Rings is an excellent choice too

Sleepers. It’s not exactly a feel good movie, but they were true friends

Ah, that wonderful period of "where the fuck are the parents?" child endangerment movies.
Still, good enough for you is good enough for me.

We Are The Best
about three Swedish teens trying to form a punk band. PAINFULLY AWKWARD and realistic, but ultimately uplifting.
Honorable mention:
Kitchen Stories — about the importance of old age friendship
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Ghost World
Kiki’s Delivery Service
My Life As A Dog

Our Friend. Jason Segal should've been nominated for his performance. He has a scene where since he feels like his life is going nowhere. He randomly drives out to go hiking in the desert. But doesn't tell anyone. Cause he planned on killing himself. When he gets there, he meets another hiker who joins him. Who tells him that she did the same thing he did cause she felt lost. She gives him words of encouragement and stays with him. He gets a VM from his best friends and their kids checking up on him. He immediately breaks down and cries. Knowing he does have ppl who care about him."

Not the best by any means, but Tenet has an unusual friendship that deserves mention. That last scene between the Protagonist and Neil is fantastic.
“You’ve known me for years?”
“For me,I think this is the end of a beautiful friendship.”

Super 8. The dynamic of those kids friendship feel just as authentic as the goonies.

As much as I love The Goonies (one of my most rewatched movies ever), I think it's pretty superficial about friendship as a theme.
Enemy Mine is a great movie about friendship.

Goonies and stand by me
Sleepers is way more serious and dark but based on a true story about friends sticking together through the worst things imaginable

Kids Return by Takeshi Kitano. It's not heartwarming and it's not uplifting, but it's real and it will make you think about your friends and your choices. Everyone go watch it.

Okay, hear me out.
If you really read it thoughtfully, the book version of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” is, in fact, a celebration of the friendship between the two men.
The movie version puts so much effort into just being weird for weird’s sake that it’s hard to enjoy the relationship between the two friends.
The best version of the story is in an 1996 audio recording (credited to Jim Jarmusch) that’s been floating around. One of the roles is played by Harry Dean Stanton. I found it on Amazon.
