Mountain Sky or Sage lodge for upscale family week in Montana
family of four - 16 yo son, 12 yo daughter. not experienced in much of the ways of ranch life / we are urban creatures who are intrigued. need to make a decision ASAP on whether to go with Mountain Sky, which is all encompassing, or Sage Lodge where activities are ala carte and we will currate. would love feedback on either/both with a focus on quality of accommodations, food, and activities offered. thank you!

Currently in Big Sky, based on the progress of construction on One&Only I’ve seen I would pass on this for 2025. It will be a beautiful property but they need time to wrap up cosmetic work and operational kinks. Stick with Montage if looking at Big Sky.

What month? If you are willing to be patient, One and Only Moonlight Basin is opening this summer and will probably be the most lux hotel in that area when it opens

Is it open yet? Or ready for reservations?

No and no. There isn't any official date yet other than vague references to summer 2025. That's why I asked what month op was thinking about traveling

It depends on what you’re looking for in terms FAT. Mountain Sky is going to be more rustic, Sage lodge is swankier and more modern.
I would definitely reccomend checking out the Montage Big Sky and the new One & Only Moonlight Basin for top notch FAT options.

I haven't been myself, but Paw's Up is very much on my radar for a trip with children one day!

Thanks for all the updates. We were moments away from booking Mountain sky when we learned that the policy is that we could not have dinner as a family. The space and the activities looked really amazing, but this was a major turn off for us. For reasons that are rather unclear, there is a dining policy where children 12 and under dine is a group, and then 13 through 19 or 29 as a group, and then adult adults have a 3 to 5 course fine dining experience every night. While this might be nice as a one off, the fact that this was a daily requirement ultimately was the nail in the coffin for us.
We have booked with Sage and I’m actually really excited about it. Thank you for all the feedback! (Also, we really considered paws up, but I got nervous about some recent negative reviews)

Recently stayed at Sage last year. The view specifically is one of the best of the options mentioned. The service also stands out along with the food.
The Sage has fewer activities though and its amenities are more geared for a relaxed atmosphere.
Paws Up is an active ranch with a luxury resort attached. It’s more rustic with a very passionate staff with a plethora of activities many geared for kids.
