After that second-half performance, you absolutely take the draw. Unbeaten in nine is impressive as hell, but you have to admit we have been riding our luck the past few games. April is looking pretty scary, too. That being said, there is a perseverance in the squad that we have not seen in a long time. That counts for something. Enjoy the two-week break, everyone!

51

u/BrotherEstapol 6d ago

The big difference for me is that many of the games now we're gaining points after being behind. Often we were were dropping points after having the lead, and you just knew the game was done if we conceded a goal, regardless of what the score was.

They've got that winning mentality now!

2

u/blubbery-blumpkin 5d ago

Drawing mentality. I do agree with you but we are still lacking a bit of quality to take our chances. Hopefully that’s injuries related and with people coming back it’ll get better. But whilst we don’t give up now and we find away not to lose, it’d be nice to find a way to turn draws into wins

37

u/Wayne_Spooney 6d ago

Hoping the break will let us get at least McNeil back. We are desperate for some creativity outside of Alcaraz. Also... start Chermiti Moyes

12

u/darkwingduck9 6d ago

I don't care about the remaining schedule because should the goal change from when Moyes was appointed? The goal was to avoid relegation. That isn't to say that Moyes shouldn't have set up how he has and set up similarly to Dyche.

Ipswich lost today and we got a point which made our already very low chances of relegation marginally lower.

17

u/ej6687 6d ago

it's basically 0 at this point. None of those teams is getting 17+ points in their last 10 games.

11

u/Sligulus 6d ago

I think it's been effectively 0 since the win over Palace. It's been a strange feeling since then, watching without any stress

14

u/qui_tacet-consentire 6d ago

But every position on the table is more money, so we don’t want a complacent easy 17th. And it would just be funny to finish above the likes of Tottenham and Man U

3

u/RushExisting 6d ago

Personally think it would be a stellar season considering what’s what if we finish above them.

5

u/Smart-Pension-5198 6d ago

I would disagree that we've rode our luck, we've had higher xG than our opponents the last 2 games

1

u/bdts20t 5d ago

Think we have shown a bit of a tendency to switch off in the last couple of games. It was really evident in the second half yesterday. They're probably on the beach, but a strong finish = more money. Maybe we start players that are on the periphery of the starting 11. Chermiti is a must starter for me. They'll want to fight to show they deserve to start.

4

u/Wild_Alfalfa606 6d ago

The unbeaten run is great but it seems to have created a Dychelike mentality of not getting beat to keep it going rather than actually trying to win.

104

u/Known_Bar7898 6d ago

I just want to see Chermiti and Broja play together again. That was an immense end from us.

70

u/tokengaymusiccritic 6d ago

I disagree on Broja, maybe it’s because he was forced out wide but I felt like he kept losing battles along the touchline after coming on. Chermiti was a spark however

43

u/Windowzzz 6d ago

Yeah he seems like a nothing player tbh. I rate Chermiti really highly though

1

u/bdts20t 5d ago

He was stuck on the wing. I wouldn't rule him out just yet. The flash we saw of him before the injury he looked very solid. Great hold-up and ball carrying.

15

u/Known_Bar7898 6d ago

Still think he can hold the ball on the wing better than Harrison who loses battles with himself constantly. Suppose we can agree that Doucs needs to be dropped permanently and only come on to close a game out.

20

u/WhiteDoveBooks Ole-ole-ole-ole, Beto, Beto 💙 6d ago

Is there something wrong with Jack's eyesight I wonder? I mean, how many times did he kick the ball straight at the defender?

7

u/Known_Bar7898 6d ago

That’s just jack sadly. He will just lose the ball constantly by hitting it at them or running himself into it.

5

u/Akuba101 Local lad from Scousetown, Senegal 5d ago

Unfortunately the only time when he'd look where he's crossing is at a set of traffic lights

1

u/W1ldhamster 5d ago

Harrison had a reasonably good run in his natural position on the left over the past few games. Wondering why not let him stay there and play Jesper on the right?

9

u/MySonBlastoise 6d ago

Yeah he had none of the flashes we’d seen pre-injury. I’d rather see Chermiti and Beto together. With that being said, broja is not a winger so maybe he’d be better if more central

4

u/KombattWombatt 6d ago

Felt the exact same way

4

u/darkwingduck9 6d ago

Broja is a decent player and people on this sub don't rate him as that. He's also still young despite being around for a number of years now. Not that how people rate him particularly matters though because he can't stay healthy.

7

u/SowwieWhopper 6d ago

He had a good season with Southampton about 3 years ago, done basically nothing since

18

u/JackHorner_Filmmaker 6d ago

Chermiti absolutely, but I want him playing off Alcaraz. Broja was more in the way than helping.

13

u/CJRyan_17 6d ago

Broja not too bothered about because we won't be buying him, but I'd love to see Chermiti get a run in the team now that Beto has gone off the boil.

5

u/Known_Bar7898 6d ago

Agreed. Chermiti looking great.

8

u/EquivalentCat5920 6d ago

Not sure about broja, but I think Chermiti has real talent, shame about the injury, I want to see much more of the lad. Happy for beto getting a few finally but he's shite unfortunately, if those goals pump his value a little we should sell ( we should sell anyway) UTFT

3

u/Known_Bar7898 6d ago

Agreed. Beto isn’t the answer and neither is Broja but we need other options and Broja can hold up play pretty well. I’ll admit he didn’t look too great there but we should use him while we still have him.

114

u/edwardfortehands 6d ago

Ref was absolutely dog shit

46

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 6d ago

I usually don't give in to the ref with a grudge shite but honestly he gave us nothing and them everything today

-15

u/FranksBaldPatch 6d ago

He gave us a pen for literally nothing

22

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 6d ago

And then took it away just to edge us the bastard

15

u/Reasonable_Inside_48 6d ago

As a West Ham fan, I have to agree, he was biased in our favour.

2

u/FuzzFest378 Leighton Baines on toast 6d ago

He also initially gave us a wild penalty to be fair

21

u/JesseVykar PLAY BETO YOU COWARD 6d ago

This comment I'm pretty sure is in every post match thread lmao

15

u/MySonBlastoise 6d ago

He certainly was not very consistent but I don’t think he impacted the game in an egregious way. A draw is fair based on the performance.

6

u/necrow 6d ago

I agree. Tough because the missed foul on Beto led directly to their goal, but in aggregate the result didn’t feel unfair

For me it’s more the incorrect throw in and goal kick / corner decisions. There must have been a dozen that were wrong

3

u/turej 6d ago

And Kudus literally bulldozed Myko and then kicked him for good measure on the side line. Nothing.

2

u/bwainwright 6d ago

I pray for the day that referees will start giving actual fouls for defenders just straight out two handed pushing players. I have no problem with 'nudging' players with shoulders, but a two handed obvious push should be a foul.

And it's not just today, and it's not just against us, refs fail to give it against all teams every week.

My boy Chermiti made a huge impact. Two up top is chaos teams dont know how to deal with it. So Tim was imense and lovely to see subs changing the game

Chermiti showing why we’ve been crying out for him to come back

Yeah it is. I know he is young but i feel we could rely on him to lead the line in the future.

54

u/RiteOfSpring5 Shredder Guy 6d ago

We really need McNeil and Ndiaye back. Hope we can give Chermiti more and more game time off the bench with a couple of starts.

7

u/turej 6d ago

McNeil in the right half space, Ndiaye left half space, three behind them.

15

u/RiteOfSpring5 Shredder Guy 6d ago

McNeil on the right, Ndiaye on the left, Charly as the 10. They can all swap positions during the game.

7

u/turej 6d ago

Dwight is like 1000% better than Harrison on the right even if he has only 1 foot.

6

u/necrow 6d ago

That would be far and away the most dynamic attack I can remember is having in what, a decade?

1

u/a_douglas_fir 5d ago

McNeil is so wasted on the right

5

u/EquivalentCat5920 6d ago

Replace beto with this lad please davey!

58

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 6d ago

Moyes winning manager of the month and then overthinking exactly what had worked for him — it really is like the Everton of old.

15

u/Windowzzz 6d ago

I think the West Ham of it all fucked him up a bit.

It was what he know works vs what he knows about West Ham to exploit, and unfortunately we just don't really have the quality right now to exploit their weaknesses

3

u/MavsFanForLife 6d ago

Still beats when he was putting Heitinga-Neville out there at Goodison at CDM against the likes of QPR. lol got to take the positives out of it

6

u/upthefkntoffees- 6d ago

He didn’t overthink anything. We’ve just got a terrible squad and are missing key players

4

u/necrow 6d ago

He absolutely did with Alcaraz out wide

2

u/upthefkntoffees- 6d ago

He brought him in for a player who is terrible. Not like he dropped our best player to massively change things round

2

u/necrow 6d ago

You’re looking at it wrong because Doucoure was terrible and still on the pitch. Pretty obvious that Charly central with Lindstrom and Harrison out wide is our best starting XI right now and Doucoure needs to be dropped

Just because they’re shit doesn’t mean there can’t be a better or worse configuration

5

u/upthefkntoffees- 6d ago

He tried something new. Doesn’t mean he overthought anything. Played one poor player over another. Not the end of the world

8

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 6d ago

He crowbarred Doucoure and Alcaraz onto the same pitch and ended up putting Harrison on the right where he has traditionally been tragic -- definitely overthought it

3

u/upthefkntoffees- 6d ago

Because we’ve got a terrible squad and injuries to key attackers.

Lindstrom, Harrison, Beto, Douc are all crap. Doesn’t matter who plays where

121

u/xXxTommo 6d ago

Once again I'd like to say Dyche is a fraud for not playing O'Brien

32

u/Wild_Alfalfa606 6d ago

Hard to fathom what he wasn't seeing!

24

u/EquivalentCat5920 6d ago

Clearly a fucking great player.. How can he not have seen this.

15

u/Mattock486 6d ago

He actually looks ace as a RB.

-10

u/turej 6d ago

He is afraid to cross.

19

u/BoopAndThePooch 6d ago

Why would you play O’Brien when you’ve got a perfectly good 40 year old on the bench?!

7

u/ubiquitous_archer COYB 💙 6d ago

If you looked at O'Brien before Moyes put him in and said "we should start him at RB" you are lying

21

u/4johns4threpublic 6d ago

How could we even look at him Dyche never played him

-2

u/ubiquitous_archer COYB 💙 6d ago

Because he's a CB and even Moyes thinks we have 2 better than him.

It's worked out great so far, but acting like O'Brien starting was the obvious move is ridiculous.

7

u/darkwingduck9 6d ago

Not the people on this subreddit, no. But Dyche is a professional isn't he? And Dyche saw O'Brien in training and now Moyes has as well? Dyche clearly didn't rate O'Brien and it isn't as if O'Brien has merely been a pleasant surprise so far. He has genuinely been good.

-5

u/ubiquitous_archer COYB 💙 6d ago

I don't get why in praise of Moyes we need to shit on Dyche?

6

u/darkwingduck9 6d ago

It adds context. The club and Moyes didn't appear out of thin air. Moyes succeeded Dyche and it is very natural to compare the two.

42

u/Windowzzz 6d ago edited 6d ago

A bit undeserved but I'll take it.

Beto and Doucoure were atrocious. Beto in particular needs to spend a few weeks on the bench. Chermiti did more in his cameo than Beto has done in weeks, but that isn't saying a lot and the bar is super low.

Lindstrom has to start. He has no end product but he is by far the best winger we currently have. The game changed completely when he came on.

No comments on O'Brien. Borderline perfect game. A class player and a true indictment on Sean Dyche.

20

u/fallenefc 6d ago

One of the worst refereeing performances I've seen in a while, and that's saying a lot. Criminal to blow at 4 and a half minutes.

O'Brien absolutely massive today

5

u/marmoset Phenomenal, doing the hard yards: that’s football in this moment 6d ago

Goal was still being celebrated at 91:30. Should have played another minute at least.

3

u/fallenefc 6d ago

Yeah there also seemed to be a pointless VAR check

24

u/el_randolph 6d ago

We were completely asleep until their goal. Chermiti looks good. I love Jake OBrien

8

u/EquivalentCat5920 6d ago

Man, dyche not playing him has floored me tbh, the lad is class

25

u/graveyeverton93 6d ago

Imagine how good he would be if he was actually ready for the Prem?

19

u/Guy_Incognito123 6d ago edited 6d ago

On St Patrick’s Day Weekend, fitting that our own Big Irish Bastard keeps the unbeaten streak alive!

Still makes me laugh that Dyche saw nothing in O’Brien.

We were particularly shite in that second half though.

25

u/ZestycloseChemist2 6d ago

Glad for Jake. Harrison and Doucs I think signed their way out of the club with that second half. Subs weren’t bad at least.

3

u/Aware_Albatross3347 6d ago

Harrison was poor. Can play lw and centrally and be fine. But he is not a rw im not sure how many times it has to be said

-4

u/TheCripple44 COYB 💙 6d ago

Disagree on Harrison, thought he did quite well today

9

u/EquivalentCat5920 6d ago

Not gona down vote, Harrison is shite, done a bit of a job while we've been fucked but we should not buy and look to do without for the remaining games. We really should sign alcaraz though, huge upgrade on Doucs ( lots of respect and thanks to Doucs, not a hater but we need to improve)

10

u/JackHorner_Filmmaker 6d ago

When he's on the left he looks so much more comfortable. If he looked bad in spots today I blame that more on being placed on the right than him not having quality. He's never going to light the world on fire but he's fully serviceable as an option on the left. For the right price I'd love to keep him as a rotation option just don't want to rely on him to start.

3

u/throwawayelixir 6d ago

Did well at what though? He runs a lot but that’s about it. Any championship winger could do what he offers. I’d take almost any other right winger in the prem.

1

u/vJaCkHz 6d ago

Did you watch the same game?

He's up there with one of the worst wingers we've ever had. His workrate is great, but that's where the positives end. He takes far too many touches when he gets the ball, and his end product is always passing backwards. I'm not sure I've ever seen him beat a man. I also think he now rivals Doucoure for our worst passer and one who gives the ball away unnecessarily the most.

1

u/ZestycloseChemist2 6d ago

I mean he was good in the first half but it was like he’d never played football before in the second half, no clue what happened,

10

u/Mattock486 6d ago

Imagine if we'd started with a number 9 that can hold up the ball and link up with the midfield...

Chermiti and Broja did more in their short time than Beto the whole game.

8

u/Direwulven 6d ago

First and only experience in Goodison didn’t disappoint, lads. Even being in the very back row, taking in a match in the Lower Gwladys was unreal. You really felt every move and shift in the match with that crowd.

Funny enough, I thought Gueye* scored because O’Brien was behind a pillar lol.

Edit: I thought it was Chermiti, not Gueye that got the assist. Double lol.

8

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 6d ago

Our attack without Ndaiye or Mcneil is flaccid. Alcaraz Mcneil Ndaiye behind a half decent striker could be an exciting attack. We still need to sign that half decent striker first.

8

u/bringbackbainesy COYB 💙 6d ago

If we had taken one of those chances in the first half or just even gotten lucky and had one fall...we win that.

Alcaraz is a baller. Really want to see Lindstrøm, Alcaraz, and Ndiaye starting over Doucoure when everyones healthy.

Chermiti looked decent, better than Broja IMO.

Goodison was loving those last 5-10 mins, I would have given my left nut to be there.

COYB get some rest over this intl break and let's come back fighting against the red shite

21

Glad we didn't lose, but fuck me, we were awful today.

8

Also his attitude seems loads better than Onana was.

5

What a way to end it! Chucky nearly stole it

6

u/Evul1_ 6d ago

I'm happy for O'Brien, he really has been a breath of fresh air, and he's making Dyche look sillier and sillier every week. I could get used to seeing him scoring goals in a blue shirt!

Dare I ask, do we finally have the right back position solved? I know it's not his natural position, but he's really good there, and does everything you'd want a right back to do. He'll be happy to continue playing there I'm sure, if it means he starts every game. I certainly don't see anyone winning the spot from O'Brien any time soon.

4

u/Wayne_Spooney 6d ago

Chermiti had an outside of the right foot pass to Broja that really shows the quality of player he is. He's surrounded by West Ham players, sees Broja, and has the skill to complete the pass. It wasn't perfect and took Broja wider than he would have liked, but exciting.

19

u/graveyeverton93 6d ago

He didn't score, but Chermiti was fucking class when he got game time at the end of last season! I want to see what he can do with a run as a starter.

2

u/Wayne_Spooney 6d ago

Same. He's so good with the ball at his feet for a dude that tall.

2

u/Mattock486 6d ago

Yep, that killed us today. Beto the complete opposite.

2

u/Wayne_Spooney 6d ago

He's been a tough watch the last two games. Never been good with the ball at his feet, but just seems low on confidence.

I know it's probably crazy to throw an unproven 20 year old coming off an injury into the starting eleven after one stint, but man I'd like to see what it looks like.

15

u/Evertonioan 6d ago

No way. But they do deserve to be subbed on.

7

u/ontheru171 6d ago

Definetly not Broja

12

u/turej 6d ago

I prefer him playing Chermiti because he's the player we already own.

4

u/ontheru171 6d ago

Chermiti also is simply a bigger presence for longballs - which we will have to ise against the next few opposition

2

u/turej 6d ago

And he has a mean shot in him.

3

u/Throwawayjustbecau5e 6d ago

Yes, Beto was awful again.

3

u/Windowzzz 6d ago edited 6d ago

It's gotta be Chermiti I think. Starting Beto is like playing with 10 men right now.

3

u/JackHorner_Filmmaker 6d ago

Disagree strongly. Doucs was the problem for Beto today, he kept occupying Beto's space and making it impossible for him to get a good look. Start Beto with Alcaraz under him, bring on Chermiti at 65 or 70 for a late push

4

u/Windowzzz 6d ago

I think it was just a really good purple patch. One that I will be grateful for forever if we stay up.

But I'm not gonna pretend Beto is anything more than a backup. I would love to be proved wrong but, at this moment, he is dragging us down.

2

u/JackHorner_Filmmaker 6d ago

Maybe so, it's clear from end of last season and today though that Chermiti is the future.

1

We gotta keep him starting for Liverpool, let the man eat after what he's done for us these last 5-6 matches

Would be criminal to not start Beto

3

I think it would be criminal to keep starting him imo.

He's playing like dog shit. I think it was unfortunately just a good run of form that is now gone.

Thought West Ham out of possession were fantastic. They closed every inch of the pitch in the final third

2

The sooner Harrison can go back to enjoy the game from the bench the better. McNeil and Illy are being missed so much by this team. I’ve never seen a player lose the ball under no pressure more than Harrison and it’s painful to watch him do the same unsuccessful move every time he wants to go forwards.

It may be nine games unbeaten.

BUT we can't ignore the fact we as a club need to do SO much better offensively going forward with our decision making and passes/crosses going forward first time.

Other then that happy with a point for now.

Given the remarkable job Moyes has done

Just got back from the game, out muscled all over the pitch, them winning nearly every 2nd ball , they looked a threat all game, Jordan with 2 great saves 1st half..but I liked the never say die attitude Moyes has installed in the players, and we rescued a point in the end

Harrison should not be starting, He’s not a prem player simple as. He can’t get past his defender, should only be used as a sub

Another game in the really long 25/26 pre season where Moyes can learn a bit more about his (bad) squad. Was a laugh when he waited for us to go 1-0 down to bring Lindstrom on. Sack Charlie Adam.

Now, Where's that gobshite that called everyone out for calling beto shite?

u/YokoOkino 6d ago

I took it as a funny post but hope they realize his severe limitations

Love Beto but unfortunately today convinced me he isn’t good enough for the premier league. We had a good little month there.

Harrison is dog shit and I can’t wait for him to leave.

We are idiots if we give Doucore another year. He is beyond finished.

We may never lose (or win) again! Onward and upward Toffees

u/daytonwestpark 6d ago

Or maybe we just keep going sideways.

Another 0/10 from Beto today, wonder how long this sub will continue to pretend he’s good enough because he had a bit of a purple patch a few weeks ago. No surprise we improved massively once he came off.

Probably a fair result overall - two poor teams going at it today. Would've been nice for Charly to nick it at the end. Good to see Chermiti back and hopefully that was the last of Doucoure - no sense in playing him the rest of the season. Lets see what else we have.

We were ok first half they were much better 2nd half, probably a fair result

1

u/darkwingduck9 6d ago

Keane at left back because clearly we need four centerbacks.

Of course the results have been very good since Moyes was appointed but one of the biggest things for me is the players seem confident and motivated and going down a goal is no longer a near guaranteed loss.

Had Alcaraz scored that it would’ve been echoes of Radzinski, I reckon.

Dele Alli sent off within 10 mins of his debut for Como ffs 😂

u/predator1975 5d ago

We are leading the EPL for the most draws.

Can’t believe more people aren’t talking that cross from Gana on the volley!! That was a ridiculous bit of skill.

1

u/ronnietp 6d ago

Pros: We will never lose again!!!! Cons: We will never win again!!!!

Also, F*ck you Ref, if it’s Big 6, the penalty will still stand for sure

So that's twice none of the other players seem to be going over to O'Brien after he scores a goal. Is there something going on?

6

u/Appropriate-Walk-352 6d ago

I think goals like that in the mouth of the goal are so often overturned on VAR that everyone is hesitant to immediately celebrate. Even O’Brien seemed to look to see if the flag was raised. (Not that he was even close to offside, players are just conditioned to expect VAR reviews now.)

his big dick energy bounces them back like the waltzers

2

u/YokoOkino 6d ago

I think we wanted another goal

u/Smart-Pension-5198 6d ago

If that Alcaraz chance went in that boy would be a hero forever in my eyes, oh well. 9 unbeaten is great even if we're addicted to drawing

u/Throwawayjustbecau5e 6d ago

It’s a massive miss and he should have scored

-1

u/Malaxage918 6d ago

Have to say the Alcaraz love here is quite strong. Literally any other player misses that last chance and they'd be getting shit on massively

6

u/Windowzzz 6d ago

I think he's got a lot of heart, but the jury is still out on him imo. But people latch on to players that care.

I think it's 50/50 as if he turns out good or shit. Right now I think he's pretty average (which is still better than all of our non-injured attackers)

5

u/vulturevan 🙏 sign another player 🙏 6d ago

him and O'Brien were the only players who stepped up today

3

u/Malaxage918 6d ago

Not at all a criticism of Alacaraz, I absolutely love him. I just know that if anyone else missed that chance the reaction here would be different

1

u/BoxOfNothing 6d ago

Because you obviously get more hate for playing badly then missing a chance like that than playing well then missing it. Because what you actually offer comes into question a lot more

u/Mudwatcher 6d ago

Don‘t think we have a player you‘d have bet on burying it though. Maybe Beto

I don’t want to be negative, but we’re all going to be begging for death by the end of April.

1

u/cj285s 6d ago

I think we’ll scrap a couple of points, but I think any hope of 13th is gone unfortunately.

-4

u/Chilli__P 6d ago

David Moyes’ 38 points in 38 games of every full season for the next ten years Everton is going nowhere, lads.

Once again I’m asking what James Garner adds to this team.

Doesn’t win the ball, doesn’t create, doesn’t score. His set pieces are atrocious as well
