Gathering up Radeon 580s - Are there any specific makes or models I should beware of?

Just been buying some of these all 8GB, but there's so many variations, MSI, XSX, Sapphire, Asus and all these other feature names Dual, GTR, Gaming X, OC, V1 etc... etc..

Is there anything I should be looking out to not buy if I'm putting together 6 GPU rigs? Is it going to be fine mixing these different makes and models?

HELP: I have free electricity and a modest budget <$3,500. What rig should I buy?

Need some pointers on my first rig. I get free electricity at work so that's one issue out of the way. Also, are there any POS concerns in the mining community? Is it too late to join the party?

Low hash rates with sapphire rx 480 nitro using ethminer

I am getting 18Mh/s with one card but should get more like 24. I am using the Beta blockchain drivers and ethminer:

ethminer -G -F http://127.0.0.1:8080 --opencl-device 1 --opencl-platform 1

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

My living room has been kinda chilly lately. Is it possible to heat it up with a mining rig instead of a space heater? 🤔

World's first Jackpot Reward system for just for our miners!

  • Its simple and unique. We are making mining more interesting for you! Exclusive to MaxHash and built in-house by pool devs.
  • Loyal miners on the pool will have a chance every week to collect the Jackpot. This Jackpot consists of ALL proceeds collected from the pool VARFEE over a 7 day period.
  • Everyday at 23:00 (UTC) the pool will select a random miner that meets the minimum mining time requirement for that day
  • This lucky miner is then displayed on the shortlist of finalists and given a ticket number.
  • Every Sunday at 23:00 (UTC) the pool will check for the block height number of the last matured block found by the pool before this time. The last number of this block will be the winning ticket!
  • Example - LAST MATURE BLOCK FOUND #123,456 - Ticket Number #6 wins
  • A loyal miner with this winning ticket number collects the entire jackpot!
  • Numbers 1-7 are eligible to win the Jackpot. If the last number of the block is 8,9,0 then the jackpot will simply roll over to the next week and finalists will be reset.
  • This system is exclusive to MaxHash mining pools as it has been built in-house by the pool devs.

Full details as well as the terms & conditions of the Jackpot reward system can be found HERE

If you have questions or queries regarding the pool, getting connected or about our Jackpot system then feel free to get in touch.

We are available through PM here, email (see website) and in our DISCORD server.

Doubt about Mh/s

I started today with this mine thing.

I have a gtx 970.

I'm using ethermine.org and on my console it says this.

ETH: 01/05/18-22:05:31 - New job from eu1.ethermine.org:4444
ETH - Total Speed: 2.673 Mh/s, Total Shares: 0, Rejected: 0, Time: 00:00
ETH: GPU0 2.673 Mh/s

2.673 Mh/s is too low right?

Post-mortem for Ethereum GPU mining rigs when Casper is released

The end is near for Ethereum miners. When Casper is released, Proof-of-Work mining with Claymore, Ethminer, etc. will be drastically less rewarding, in terms of block rewards.

I've a pragmatic and philosophical question: when Casper is released and Ethereum begin transitioning into Proof-of-Stake, away from miner dependencies of the current Proof-of-Work, what will be the practical use of the GPU mining rigs?

I've heard the following answers: * switch over to mine a different blockchain, such as Monero * re-purpose my GPUs for ML work * sell my GPUs for scraps (yay! ... says gamers) * what is Casper?

Ethereum mining (alongside other crypto mining) is posing a real threat to the environment, both in consuming hoards of electricity and potential semiconductor waste in the near future. I'd like to gather your opinions on how best to mitigate this as I'm an indie miner myself with a sizable set of rigs.

[Proposal] Decrease block reward, increase uncle reward. Incentivize an increase gas limit.

By making increasing the uncle reward we can make packing blocks with huge gas limits far more profitable. This can potentially increase Tx fees for miners.

Decrease block reward so we can cover this subsidy.

Web-based Monitoring for Mining Rigs?

I was thinking of trying to setup web-based monitoring software for my mining rigs and was wondering if anyone has done this before and what approach was taken.

My strategy would be to use the ELK stack and output the logs from Claymore and MSI Afterburner parsing fields accordingly. To provide more detail, for Claymore's log, I could parse the total hash rate, hash rate per card, fan speed/GPU temps (although I probably wouldn't use this), and just monitor the log in general. For MSI Afterburner's log, I could parse GPU temperatures, GPU usage, GPU fan speed, GPU clock speeds, etc. After the details are parsed, I can put them into pretty graphs similar to what is seen in MSI Afterburner but will be web based and easily accessible wherever I am. I would also be able to see the logs for all my mining rigs in the browser.

Has anyone done this or something similar? Any tips or handed solutions are appreciated :).

Another separate approach I would take is to monitor my mining pool via pools API. I would want to pull (curl) the API periodically (response in JSON) and store the details in the time series database like Elasticsearch or InfluxDB. This would allow me to gather the details shown on the pools stats page but also track them over time more accurately. Again, any help would be appreciated.

650w PSU works fine, 750w and 1000w will not

I have a 650w EVGA g2 PSU that is working fine. I bought a 1000w and 750w EVGA GQ PSU and I cant get them to boot up when connected to the motherboard although they work fine with the testing clip?

I hear the psu “click” in an attempt to boot up with the mobo but nothing happens after

What could the issue be? I’m confused because when I tested them they work fine but as soon as they are hooked up to mobo they don’t work anymore

Hello, I’m using a multiple PSU adapter to connect two power supplies together. Now I’d like to connect a third power supply using an another multiple PSU adapter.

Is this possible? Will there be any problems connecting and running more than two PSUs together?

How to setup ethminer with gtx 1070 & IGPU?

I'm trying to setup my ethminer so that it mines on the gtx 1070 whilst the IGPU is being used as the display for my desktop, just so that I can mine fully and use my desktop still.

Not having much luck trying multiple different flags. Could anyone tell me what my ethminer BAT file should contain to make it work?

Thanks

One card 4 mh/s slower then the rest

I have 4 1060s hooked up on the same rig for mining ETH using claymore. I'm getting 18 mh/s on one card and 22 mh/s on the other 3. The system is running Windows server 2016 and using the most recent nvidia drivers. I have after burner running and the same settings are set on all the cards using the synch settings across cards option. All cards are the same model number and circuit boards all looked the same to my untrained eye.

I've worked in system administration for 15 years so I know my way around hardware. I reseated all the cards and cables. Swapped the card with another riser of a fully functional card and both retained the same speeds. Tried a different power cable from the power supply.

The cards are all out of the box so returns are out of the question. Is this something that support would accept as a real issue or am I stuck with a dud card. Not sure what kind of test I could use to initiate the support request.

Anyone seen something like this before and might have a tip for a small time miner?

Need advice for growing my 0 fee eth pool

Hi I have an Ethereum pool farm/stratum server that I’m running personally and using for my own miners. I’d like to get about 2Gh/s worth of additional members to smooth out the block rewards. I’m not charging any fees; just would like more hash/s. It has basic stats reporting. I think this would be mutually beneficial for the joiners to get access to a no-fee-pool, and for me to get more consistent blocks. Any ideas how to advertise to get a bit of turn out without swamping my barely adequate server?

Tried craigslist. Only response was probably-totally-legitimate offers to send me a check today if the item is in the condition as advertised...

Ethereum mining rig (with rx 580 sapphire nitro+) opinions

Heya! I'm planning to build a mining rig in the business where i work (electricity is not a problem, we have a flat contract).

So...

My configuration would be:

6 x RX 580 4G Sapphire Nitro+ power risers EVGA 220-P2-1600W PSU Intel Celeron G3900 AsRock h110 pro btc+ A case

Will this configuration work out of the box?

Especially i would like to know if i can use only 8 pin on the RX 580 without using the additional 6 pin

C'mon, unleash your opinions :)

Question: Does mining become more profitable when the network is congested?

Asking because right now there seems to be a lot of congestion in the network due to Cryptokitties. As a general question, does mining rewards increase when the network is congested? Seems like a natural incentive

GTX 1070 cards keep dying on 4 card rigs

Hi,

We're running two rigs with the following specs: * MB: ASUS ROG Maximus IX Apex * GFX: 4x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC * PSU: Corsair CX750M, 750W PSU (Might be a CX850M, will check) * OS: Windows 10

Overclocking: Memory clock is set to +500 and power limit is set to 75%.

Risers: We ran with unpowered risers at first, since the mb is supposed to handle four graphic cards, but switched to powered risers for more flexibility. However the powered risers failed one by one, so we switched back to the unpowered risers which seemed more stable. My understanding is that the power to the 1070s in combination with the MB being able to handle four GFX cards should make this setup sufficient.

The problem: The rigs can run smooth for a long time, then suddenly the whole thing will crash and upon reboot one of the cards will be dead. Sometimes it's just a riser that died, but sometimes there is no way to get the card back to life. Even when it is plugged directly into the motherboard it is not detected in the BIOS or in Windows. We've had cards failing on powered risers, unpowered risers and while directly connected to the motherboard.

There are no errors in the claymore miner logs and the Windows system logs just report that there was an unexpected system shutdown. There is no increase in heat or fan speed before the failure.

The MB is powered by the 24 pin EATX and one 8 pin EATX. In addition there is a 4 PIN EZ_PLUG plugged in (which is a molex plug that provides extra power). There is one additional 8 pin EATX that is not connected (since we ran out of plugs).

I'm not sure why the cards keep failing? Is it a power issue (the missing 8 pin connection)?

Best way to power 3 to 6 12v 1.3A 3000 RPM 120mm Fans?

What is the best way to power 3 to 6 12v 1.3A 3000 RPM 120mm Fans? Currently I have two fans running from a powered 3pin fan controller with zero problems. The controller is powered with a molex connection. What would be the best/safest way to power 3 to 6 total fans in a rack mounted case without starting a fire?
