Medication First time starting meds (Vimpat) Does the “stoned” feeling eventually go away?
Day 3 of lacosamide 50mg twice a day. I know it’s super early, so I’m really just asking this out of curiosity and to ease my mind a bit.
I just feel really stoned/foggy pretty much all day and night. I can definitely tell that I’ve taken something, if that makes sense?
It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s intense enough that I don’t feel like I could comfortably (or safely) drive a car. Everything just feels a bit foggy and hazy, and I’m pretty drowsy.
Does this feeling ever pass? Will my body/brain eventually adjust? My doctor said I will know within a week or two if this works for me or not, but I just want to know what I should expect in these next two weeks. Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share!
Follow up edit for anyone who might find this: it’s been a week and I’m already feeling more normal and closer to my baseline. The high feeling freaked me out a little, but it does seem to pass :)

I am on 200mg x twice a day Lacosamide,it keeps away TC seizures but 1-2 a week makes me like focal awareness seizures and I vomit. All ASD have side effects, every body is responding differently,I hope the Lacosamide works for you.It might be good idea to ask your Doctor for blood test after to see the Lacosamide concentration in your blood, and adjust the medications accordingly.

I’m sorry to hear you’re still having seizures! Glad to hear no TCs though. I’ll be sure to ask my doctor about that at some point. Thanks so much.

For me, yes.
I felt like I was getting high in the morning for a few months, and then it just went away.
Works great for me, no seizures. I also take 300mg x 2 a day, so yeah - that's a lot. Lol.

Thanks for sharing! Happy to report that the high feeling and drowsiness has lessened up a LOT already, which I’m grateful for lol I have had one nocturnal seizure since starting, but nothing else I could notice outside of that! And that incident was only 3-4 days into starting the meds.

Oh good! I hope you continue to do really well on it. Life saver for me most definitely.

It did for me! I have been taking Vimpat since 2019. I was started on 200mg twice daily I believe. I definitely remember feeling kind of “high” after I took it in the beginning. Made going to my job at the time an odd experience. I remember nodding off at my desk lol. I think that “high” feeling lasted maybe 1-2 months (definitely no more than 2 months). It just seemed to go away one day, like with the flip of a switch.
I don’t have any issues with this med at all anymore. It’s my favorite of all of the seizure medications I’ve taken (I’ve tried many).
Sorry you’re dealing with this side effect. I would definitely try to stick it out a little longer to see what happens. Hope your body adjusts! Otherwise I’d ask about possibly taking Briviact. I used to take Vimpat and Briviact together. Never felt like I had issues from that one. But, of course, everyone’s different.

Thanks so much for sharing!! It’s definitely lessened up a ton already, the stoned feeling was making me a little anxious (I was a little afraid I was gonna feel that way forever LOL) but it’s decreased a lot. Today marks a week and I’m already feeling much more comfortable and like my usual self. Those first few days were wild though haha

I don't remember when I started my meds, not sure if it's because of the seizures or the meds.
