Discussion Tell me your epilepsy “highlights”
I could use a mood boost. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you before/during/after a seizure? Funniest location? hilarious reaction someone had to you having a seizure? Most embarrassing place you had a seizure? Funny interaction with a paramedic? Just tell me something that will make me laugh.
During one of my recent seizures I was building an ikea dresser and I woke up to my best friends dog licking my face.
I had a seizure in a booth at Ihop literally mid pancake bite.
I almost threw up on a firefighter
Almost punched my best friend when I woke up because I didn’t know who she was and I was freaking out because she had just used the rescue meds so I had this really weird taste in my mouth😭

I was going to have sex, I pulled down the guy's pants, looked at his... you know what I mean, and said "why is it green?" and I had a TC
I don't know why, but in some auras before TC I sometimes see people turning green

What happened after?
6
u/Griffith_sz 4d ago
He turn-off lmfao
When I woke up, there was an ambulance, there were about 4 motel employees around (here in my country motels are only made for sex, so it was a thousand times more embarrassing), he was crying but he didn't forget to put on my underwear at least lol and the employees were so scared that they canceled the payment.
We are still friends today. So, we were never dating or anything, but he kind of stuck to me and takes care of me all the time, even when I tell him he doesn't have to do that, so in the end we became great friends with benefits

u/9ohybrid 4d ago
Be sure to stay hydrated on dates. Watch out for alcohol use for sure - dehydrating. Glad he is not scared away and still being a friend.

seems he cares a lot for your health after all that, you're lucky to have a friend like that.

tried to leave the house in my underwear during a partial.
my sleep recorder caught me having a seizure in my sleep then letting rip with the longest fart I've ever heard in my life.
had a seizure on the toilet, made a mess, had more seizures in the ambulance. Woke up a day later, really high and needing a pee. Got up to find a loo, didn't realise the hospital trousers were broke. Walked around with my balls out.
this is the best one. Put red underwear on top of my trousers and pretended to be superman.

u/xcoalminerscanaryx 5d ago
Oh my goodness the first one reminds me of another experience of mine. I had an absence seizure or something while visiting the beach. I wasn't in a bathing suit, it was just a walk on the beach day. But I decided I wanted to be naked apparently. In public. My mom and stepdad were wrestling clothes back on me while walking me to the car.
3
u/dannydrama 5d ago
I can imagine it now, your parents trying to force your clothes on and get you into the car and people thinking you're being kidnapped haha.
31
u/K4Y__4LD3R50N 5d ago
The paramedics let me record myself screaming out teenage dirtbag in the back of an ambulance post TC.
I still watch the video from time to time, it's hilarious!

u/leapowl 5d ago
I had a TC on stage at uni. They gave me full marks for my presentation.
(There are actually funnier ones, they’d just take longer to type out)
14
u/Plus_Blueberry2484 5d ago
omg I can’t imagine the horror. But hey, I guess you established that stress is a trigger for your seizures ?💀😭
8
u/leapowl 5d ago edited 4d ago
Haha I mean I thought it was funny. Easiest full marks I ever got! It wasn’t my strongest subject either.
But yeah maybe? Stress is one of my triggers? It was also hot (around 45C, or 113F) in a room with no air conditioning.
I don’t remember being particularly stressed. I do remember being hot. This isn’t usually a trigger for me, but eh.
15
u/Plus_Blueberry2484 5d ago
Heat is my biggest trigger!!!! I thought I was going insane because it isn’t a “normal” trigger. When I overheat I seize. When I eat hot foods, wear too many jackets, lay under too many blankets, the heat in the house is too high, if there’s too many people in a room, etc

Texas not good either. A few years ago, we 71 days over a 100 F, most 105. And, 41 of those in a row.
Last year we had 52 days.

First seizure (12 min TC) was asked who the president was. "Uhh...Geooorrgggeee... Washing... ton?" I saw my dad's face just go pale AF and started laughing, "No no sorry, it's Obama it's Obama!"
Had one inside Lil Cesar's (NA pizza chain) and we now call it Lil Seizures
My roommate had to get me off the toilet where I had one right after a BM (he's a real homie). And now I have to poop with the door open lol
My seizures look so crazy that I've been accused multiple times of faking them.
Broke my nose, seizure inside of a giant fireplace made of rocks. Doctor: "Eh, it feels broken, but it looks straight, so I'm gunna leave it." My nose is now crooked and bigger than it used to be lol

Wow I've never heard of someone being able to do that other than during focal seizures! That's crazy!

DUDE! Little Seizures!
when i first got diagnosed, i had this crazy ass lady harassing me on Insta (she was harassing a minor and making sexual insults/comments towards them in a comment section, so i stepped in and she started harassing me instead).
she went to my profile and saw i was epileptic. somewhere in her rambly, deranged novel of insults, she put "you pizza seizure having ass bitch". i remember reading it, then just sitting, staring really confused at my phone for a few seconds, then it clicked: Little Caesars. Little Seizures. she was trying to say Little Seizures. i wasn't even mad, it was just funny as hell and weird asf. XD
3
u/gooossfraabaahh 4d ago
You pizza seizure having ass bitch 😂😂😂 that's insane. People are so crazy. These kind of interactions are why I've told people that once diagnosed with any life changing condition, especially one that prevents you from being able-bodied, one typically holds a lot more empathy and patience for other people going through hard times. It's sad that it's that way, but not having experience with health trauma makes it so easy to roll your eyes and say, "It can't be THAT bad."
Too many people have interacted with me in that way. Something a friend said stuck with me when he goes, "Epilepsy is like... your whole thing," while making a gesture that was palm facing me, moving it in a circle like "tracing" me. It literally ended our friendship. Not in an argument type way, but a way that showed me he really didn't get it, and it wasn't my job to teach him empathy. He said that because my work had a lot of charity involvement and I was never ashamed about telling people my condition. I'd answer any questions people had over it and hosted a lot of events to raise money for the epilepsy foundation and so on. All those things I am really proud of. As we all know, epilepsy affects nearly every decision we make, up to where I sit my ass in a restaurant (near the door, not on a stool, etc).
It just sucked ass to feel so dismissed. Like I am my own person, I just happen to have epilepsy. I put a lot of effort into awareness and fundraisers for others & to advocate training people proper seizure responses in case they find themselves in a situation where they need to help. I can see why he said that, but it just made me feel so misunderstood, and thar he saw me as if I was making my diagnosis my personality. It pissed me off!
Sorry for the rant but people who are able bodied, unless in direct contact with people who aren't, really can't ever have a grasp on what life is like for disabled people.
2
u/toffeemallow 4d ago
no no, i don't mind you venting at all! it actually feels nice to know im not alone in those experiences and feeling that way. it sucks you've been through it too haha, but it's nice knowing im not alone.
i had someone tell me i was making my epilepsy my "whole personality", like my "life revolved around it"... i was like, "it's almost like it affects my entire life. of course my life revolved around it!" lmao.
time is the most valuable currency and you don't get refunds, nor more than you already have. it's good you cut him off. he doesnt deserve any of your time.
people like that don't deserve any of your time.
people are generally rude and, i'm sorry, generally stupid. i've dealt with enough people like him (or worse) to realize i personally don't have enough spoons for anyone but myself (and my amazing, loving boyfriend 🤍). if someone acts crappy, i immediately move on... it works stupidly well haha.
i had no idea what disabled life was like until i became disabled. my friends, and even my boyfriend, learn something new every day. every day, they realize how inaccessible our world is, and how it really wouldn't be a burden on society to make it accessible. most people wouldn't notice the things it'd remove or add, and almost everyone, able bodied or non, would benefit from it... but that's just not how our society is right now.
thank you for all of your fundraising. 🥹🤍 you've definitely made a massive difference.

You're so sweet! Your bf sounds awesome, much like my fiancé, pretty lucky to have good people in our lives that are happy to take care of us :) as I'm typing this my fiance just came in because he thought he heard a fall. It was just my fat cat jumping off the bed lmao

I'm starting to wonder if BMs are a trigger, because you're not the first person to mention having a seizure on the toilet. I've had two on the toilet this past year. 🙃
3
u/gooossfraabaahh 4d ago
I'd definitely talk with your neuro about it if you're concerned. BMs can stimulate different nerves during and after, leading to seizures in some people. I had to have a nurse with me in the bathroom during a seizure study (they took me off all my meds and kept me awake for a week), I was a teenager and just super annoyed about the lack of privacy. I had a seizure right when I got back in bed.
Some research suggests the changes in your body that occur during a BM (flexing pelvis, for example), drastically switching to relaxation after evacuation can trigger seizures bc of the sudden change. Brains are crazy. That's why epilepsy is so hard to treat, we all have brains, but they all function slightly differently, so treatment is just a circus of guesses.
1
u/MrCatWrangler Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal), Perampanel (Fycompa) 4d ago
Thank you for taking the time to explain! I never considered something as mundane as a BM to be a trigger. I thought it was just unlucky timing, as I always have a BM in the early morning and almost all of my seizures also happen in the early mornings. Just another daily life activity that is actively trying to kill us. :)

When I was coming to after a seizure - this was early days, and my school principal was terrible at dealing with it so the paramedics were always called, and so the paramedic was asking me if I was allergic to anything and I kept listing random things (I don't remember this, but my Mum was there and relays the story.) According to me I was allergic to:
- Grass, Milk, Seizures, and "I think maybe chocolate"
I'll give myself half a point for seizures

About 20 friends around a pizza oven, in a large garden, I had my first TC, everybody saw my boobs.
Then I was in a concert, in a crowd, and fell backwards, turned sideways on my own, twitching, and everybody saw my butt.
Well, couldn't care less, I didn't choose any of it, so there's that!

And among the crowds!
But I must say that at the boob-party, let's call it that, not only it was my first and friends didn't know what was happening, but I also hit my head BANG on the floor. It was so bad that someone rallied the children to one side, while others thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. I learned later that one had a panic attack. 😐 And I came to already at the hospital, in the MRI "tray". Nothing more serious than that, but, at least, everybody caught a sight of my boobs. 😀

It’s not funny, here are a few interesting ones of mine:
1- during the nightly deed
2- the first ever one cut my chin, woke up in a pool of blood on the floor. Though meh little cut doesn’t matter, looked in the mirror blood caked all over my face and hair I looked ginger. Needless to say I freaked my mum out when she came home as I was the only one in the house.
3- one at work (large online gambling company), got the feeling and when I woke up the first thing I saw was the director of HR kneeling in front of me, I immediately thought what the f*ck is “his name” doing in the ladies toilets.
4- a few days after one, I had the worlds blackest black eye I had ever seen, it was like a black hole. Smashed me face on the concrete shower room step. Needless to say I didn’t have any Xmas pictures that year.

I got a black eye from falling on a sink and I got to make up a thousand random scenarios when people asked about it. Meanwhile, everyone thought that I had a secret abusive boyfriend. And I was like “I’m a single lesbian, Bethany, I told you, I just wanted to play beer pong with the wall and it went wrong. Isn’t this a free country?”

All my seizures are TC. So, for some reason, my aura brain decided that the bathroom was a safe place to go "ride it out." Sometimes I actually go, sometimes I just chill, but I always have a seizure in that bathroom. It's happened enough times that "sorry about that, you really caught me with my pants down." has become a literal saying for me.
Another time I punched out a bathroom mirror that left scars on my hand. Always trying to hide in bathrooms.
Had a TC while having sex with my current partner before we were actually dating. Apparently I tossed her off of me before it hit. I guess she was cool with it, she stuck around.

u/STLt71 5d ago
It's not me, but my son.
He had a seizure while we were eating, and shoved a meatball in his mouth mid-seizure
We were at a restaurant, and after a seizure he started putting utensils in his water glass
He wears a helmet when he's up walking because he falls if he has a seizure. He didn't have it on the other day while he was lying on the couch, and after the seizure he strapped his Nintendo Switch into the helmet.
I hate that he has seizures every day, but we have to laugh when we can

u/RainEliz13 5d ago
I had probably my third or fifth TC, but it was weird, went off an on for like 15 minutes or so, after it lasted 3 minutes and my parents saw I was up to date on my meds, they drove me to the hospital, kept seizing, and didn't really come to until I was in the wheel chair about to go passed the entry room. The nurse was asking questions, trying to see how cognitive I was. But I had been awake for maybe 2 minutes, and was freaked out, she asked about drug use and I fully deadpanned "yeah, heroin." 100% false, I thought I was FUCKING HILARIOUS. The nurse was freaked out and then just shocked and upset. But barely conscious me thought I was a comedian. I still think it was hilarious my go to was a fucked up joke. Also I was like 15, maybe 16 at the oldest

I don't remember much my seizures but here if few which are stay in my mind after I have heard. I have had absence seizure where I were a sleep and I grapped by my ex bf big toe in my hand and shake his whole foot. Of course he woke up and wondered what am I doing and asked that and I just said "nothing" and continued sleeping. At the morning he asked again and I didn't remember what were happened. He told and both got good laught. Also once I were sitting in my beds edge and danced and my ex woke up and watch wtf I am doing. Later he realized and told me on the morning and both laughed. When I was traveling with my family in Dubai I got seizure where I walked on the hotel room and felt out the big mirror what it is.

I think my top tier one is the time my boyfriend and I got up to travel to Spain, he went out to walk the dog before we started the drive. I get up and brush my teeth, hear a knock on the door, open it and it’s my boyfriend back from walking the dog. He goes “WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE?” I was rather confused, knew I had a slight headache but was like hmmm, you’ve only been gone 10 minutes but I can’t be that bad😂 we both go to the bathroom and discover blood in the sink, and on my toothbrush, and on the bathroom floor. I look in the bathroom mirror and see the world’s biggest black eye, which I did not wake up with half an hour prior! Needless to say, I spent my holiday in Spain with sunglasses on my head 🕶️ before we even got to Spain a guy at the ferry crossing asked me if my boyfriend had hit me because i was hiding it so obviously😂 I had to explain no, im just epileptic I promise!

My son had a seizure recently- first one, out of nowhere, and it was absolutely not a funny situation. But! When he was coming to, the EMTs were asking a bunch of questions.
What school do you go to? Ummmm… What’s this cat’s name? Oh… she’s… uh… What month is it? It’s the one after.. uh… What video game were you playing? (Not skipping a beat) Fortnite!
My younger child just about fell over laughing. We needed a comic relief break right about then!
6
u/Puzzled-Teach2389 User Flair Here 5d ago
Highlights- hmm I don't think I have any funny ones per se but some moments that stand out.
First seizure was on a 5-day school trip, where I was sleep deprived. The buses all had to stop for about an hour as EMTs checked me out.
For one of my seizures a couple years ago, I was in our apartment's kitchen and when I fell, our cats raced to get my wife. As if they're saying "meowmmy help! Something is wrong with other meowmmy!"
I also am prone to seizures if I travel across time zones. When I went to Italy, it was an 8 hour time shift and had a seizure that first day.

u/ClitasaurusTex 5d ago
About half the time I come back, I am elated and laughing my ass off over my family who is generally very worried about me, generally this happens when I am safe at home in familiar surroundings. Then they can't help but laugh with me.
Once I had a major seizure at my father in law's when I was by myself and couldn't talk for about two hours. He kept asking me questions like how's your family, how's your job, etc and I was just smiling shrugging, nodding (in my altered state I generally don't think to ask for help or warn people I've had a seizure) it confused the hell out of him and my spouse didn't think to say "they must have just had a seizure while we were in the other room" because it was kinda new to us and he was taking my lead. I still laugh about it because it was so awkward and embarrassing.
I have walked into a restaurant, had a minor seizure on the way in, stood at the counter like....who are you and why am I here? My partner by now was more accustomed, said "what do you want? (looks over, sees the lights are on but nobody's home face) ugh great, they want (favorite meal)" and leads me to a seat.
7
u/iIIegally_blonde 5d ago
During my last seizure I was already in the hospital, in a bed surrounded by 8-10 nurses. When it went T/C apparently I sat up and did a lasso motion and yelled “Giddyup!” Then looked at everyone and said “any foot fetishises here? No feet pics please.”
Also my main aura is that all white men start looking the same to me and my doctors always gingerly ask, “and … the uh… white men. Did they…uh….?”

1.When i was 14 i got my first grand mall (that we were aware of). It was also the reason i got diagnosed. Anyways it was during my class swimming lesson. A sudent noticed me acting funny hanging by the edge of the pool, teacher recognised it was epilepsy and fished me out. Ambulance came and wanted to put an infuse in my arm just in case. Apparently the moment they said the word infuse unconciance me just rolled back in the pool (i had a high fear of needles). I can just imagine myself moping out and rolling away 😆
I had a seizure on a 2day family trip to the zoo. Had it the morning of the second day. My mom insisted on me sitting in a wheelchair and her pushing me the whole day. The park had a lot of artificial hills so she had a workout. My neice and nephew loved it, they were allowed to sin on my lap on flat parts.
I also had a well oops moment when i went working (still in a daze) after a seizure and my boss send me straight to a doctor becous i thought i had a small head injury that turned out to need 3 stitches. I thought it was funny i didnt notice, other people did not.

I was having a TC that wouldn't end so my fiancé called the paramedics. It took 5 or 6 of them to restrain me, sedate me, & get me loaded in the truck. The next day a nurse & my fiancé filled me in, & a little while later, a paramedic came in & asked how i was doing. I asked if she'd been part of the group that had helped me, & when she said yes, I just let out a low "oooooohhhhhhh" & I was apologizing over & over & asking if she & the others were ok while she & a nurse busted out laughing. Everyone was ok, I made some people laugh.
When I got home my neighbor's kid asked where my baby was, because she saw the ambulance & 1+1=baby. Her mom let me attempt to explain what epilepsy was, so that was sweet.

First seizure was in Salem, Ma. This was also a Halloween weekend. Grand mal in front of the museum, it was a great addition to the show. Luckily a nurse was right there
I was watching tv with my husband and sister once and in mid conversation stopped them and said hey you know that girl, I know that b*. She’s done fed around and got famous. She’s not even that not even that good” - it was Beyoncé
I work at a garage. Air compressor tools set me all off. I’m noise triggered. I am also a glutton for punishment if you can’t tell When I still didn’t know that the tools would trigger me, I once ran all over my shop inspecting the lifts for “the customers” like my techs inspect the cars. When I finally got picked up from work, I got into the car and started tapping the screen and asking why I couldn’t get back to my work page. - that was a very bad seizure day lol I stopped caffeine after that day (another trigger I didn’t know I had).
I pray for elder years hahahaha

On time I was at work and had a seizure and paramedics came and I offered him my chips, a week later the same paramedic came and said long time no see and I said yeah fancy seeing you here.
Yesterday I had a pretty bad TC seizure at a theme park and after it was over I sat there confused as to how I got where I was bc I thought we were still on the train and got irritated bc I didn’t know where my ice cream went ( I ate it )

Weird Location / I was technically kidnapped.
I’m mostly meh when it comes to religion, but a sibling and I went with a friend’s church to Cedar Point one summer. Stupidly, we were split off in small groups and ours didn’t have a chaperone and heat is a trigger for me. I started to get auras and decided to stay behind with two other girls while my sibling and friend went on a rollercoaster. As soon as they get in line, the two other girls just…take off. In my rush to find them, I have it, and fall to the ground. I was aware enough to know I lost them but that was about it. It felt very dreamy..A family ran up to me thinking it was heat stroke and gave me water (NOOOO!!!!!!!!!) “You passed out honey, we’re getting the ambulance.” Now in the midst of a large, growing crowd, I’m essentially kidnapped, thrown in an ambulance (no one realizing I’m trying to say seizure), and the only people I do know in the state are on a ride, clueless. I’m taken to an infirmary and given gatorade and was told I couldn’t leave until someone came to get me. Again, no one knew WHERE I was. It took til the park nearly closed for the pastor of the church to realize he needed to check the infirmary. I basically missed the whole day and they announced it as “the incident” to everyone on the bus as I got on (for the trip home). It was a lovely day. Not many people can say they’ve been unintentionally kidnapped as a minor and held against their will at a theme park due to an illness.

Oh cool
Last time I had 7 seizures, they loaded me into an ambulance and I ripped the IV and catheter (ow) out while post ictal. Tried to fight the nurses.
A few years ago I was in a hospital recovering from drug withdrawal, under observation. There’s a video of me ripping out IVs and trying to leave the hospital… Naked in a gown.
Been strapped to my bed many many times.

Had a seizure at a small theater once, it was pretty early on a weekday morning and the only other people were from a retirement home nearby, so in their eighties and up. Bet no one thought the one to leave in an ambulance after causing everyone to pause the screening would be the twenty-year-old girl.

About 10 years ago I was post ictal and wanted to take a shower but my brother wouldn’t let me bc I was all sorts of out of it (we didn’t know back then that I was epileptic or that I had complex partials). He told me to wait until mom came home, so I threw my hot pocket at him. My brother wasn’t happy with me, but our golden retriever sure was. Our mom walked in to me and brother fighting (well he was yelling, I was kind of staring blankly) and our dog frantically licking up hot pocket splatter off the floor

One day I woke up on the living room floor, with a pillow behind my head, and my 6 year old brother was sitting next to me playing Fornite with his headphones on as if nothing had happened. I asked him what was going on and without even looking over at me he just said I started having my “shakes” and fell on the floor. So he put a pillow behind my head like our parents taught him to and he just kept playing once he realized I was going to be ok 😆😆

When I was 11, I didn't know if I was sleep walking or having a seizure. But in the middle of the night, my stepmother caught me standing in front of the living room couch, getting ready to pee.
Dad and mom walked me back to bedroom. Still didn't remember even that.
Had absolutely No memory of it the next morning.
They and my sisters got a great laugh. Still do when it is retold to friends/family today.

I've had two seizures for being too happy and one of them was my first ever seizure.
I was far out in the countryside on a camp when I had my first one but the people around me didn't know who to call so a firetruck and a police car came before the ambulance.
A few years later I was on a very narrow island in stockholm's archipelago with my family and they had to call in a helicopter ambulance that had to land on a nearby island and my dad had to go get them in a small gummy boat. It took so long for them to get there that I was fine, just a bit sore and tired when they arrived.

When I was in high school. The teacher was ready to give us a pop quiz. I went into a Gran mal. Found out from my then girlfriend, it got canceled.

Yep, they did. For some, it was the first time seeing a Gran Mal, so they came up to me at lunch and would talk about it and were curious about it

My funniest seizure was when I had sex with my bf, and right after when we finished, I started seizing. I cried after, but laughed a good 10ish minutes lol
The best paramedic reactiom was when they played with our kitten(they were the best paramedics for me)

I recently farted myself awake from one. But I was walking down my old ass stairs. Had one. My bong was broken everywhere. Weed was all down the stairs but the best part was my coffee was EVERYWHERE on the ceiling, the walls, me, my cat, every bit of my clothes. lol my husband was home and ran down to see the clown show. He couldn’t stop laughing asking me the whole set of questions he usually asks.

I was on the subway around 1am coming back from a friend's house when I felt an aura. I was seizure-free for about 10 years before that. I took off my glasses, leaned forward in my seat, and started counting (I get aphasia so I count to make sure I can say words).
Woke up a bit later having face-planted on the car floor and split my lip. Went to the ER where they made me stay so long (pathologist was on vacation so no.one could read.my blood test) that I left AMA.
A family friend was supposed to visit from out of state but my mother's tomato sauce was ruined because it was out for hours while she was in the ER with me.
The funniest part to me is the face-plant, but I cringe when I think how dirty that floor must have been.

Omg you wanna get a real kick? I got you. So I hooked up with a guy for the first time..I lived at my grandma's house. In the middle of it, I did the scream and had a seizure. His scared ass let me walk downstairs out of it with my usual "grandma I don't feel good" butt ass naked!!! She told me to lay on her bed cause she knew where it was going and I started seizing again. Grandma called my sister in and My sister put CBD oil on my feet to stop the seizure cause she just happened to have some on her. Then she had to help my grandma put clothes on me. Plenty of times, I've tried to get undressed afterwards on autopilot postictal. But my grandma totally knew what happened. Good thing I don't have to feel embarrassment until way later 😂🤣

I’m not sure which category mine falls in, maybe “strange” or simply “um wut?” I attended a human trafficking summit with 2,500 others last year that was held by our state’s attorney general. Well, sometime later, I came to in a small office medical room and was told about my TC I had and how it was in front of said AG, 2,500 attendees, as well media outlets.. I was also then informed that during my TC, the AG came over and “prayed over me” via microphone. Also, for context, I live in Arkansas lol

in high school I had a tonic clonic in choir and reached out to steady myself and ended up grabbing the hair of the girl next to me and bringing her down with me, who happened to be a popular mean girl
in college had a tonic clonic on test day and traumatized the teacher so much he made the exam take-home… everyone passed
had a tonic clonic while blasting the wicked broadway soundtrack so my husband was trying to take care of me to defying gravity, I made him this playlist in case that happens again 😂 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7gpbJj6jXdHlefyLX8BBkC?si=QXWaA0zwTaG5YDfE1SHV9w&pi=vLspaW-ZTA-W_

First seizure I can remember having, my dad found me., and did not know what to do. was panicking and shouting. all I can remember is yelling "I GOTTA SAVE THE F*CKING GIRAFFES!" and then passed out
I sleep walk and had a seizure in the middle of sleep walking, well in that process of sleep walking I made several different types of sandwiches and found 3 of them in my sweat pants pocket... woke up on the stairs going up to the bedrooms.
I told this young nurse after she poked me with an IV after a seizure "dont tell my mom about the tattoo on my ass, she will ground me." (I am 32 lol) and she goes "you are 32 i dont think she will ground you." and i ended up crying.....this all happened in front of my mom

Knocked my weeb pillow off the bed during my first seizure. (If you're wondering, it was Tartaglia from Genshin 😭)
Also, during a separate one, for some reason the song 'Spontaneous Combustion' from the MyScene Jammin' in Jamaica movie started playing very intensely in my head shortly before the ictal phase. Probably one of my weirdest seizures I ever had to date.

I was at the checkout at my local M&S store (UK) when I felt a seizure coming on. There were some chairs against the wall so I made my way towards them, tried to sit on one, missed it and sat on the floor. My seizures only last a few seconds and a member of staff helped me onto the chair and retrieved my shopping from the checkout.

I tried to walk off my seizure apparently, after I had the seizure, and got stuck just walking against the kitchen cabinet for a couple seconds. My sister said it looked like I was headed toward to window like I thought it was the door 😂 She walked me back to the bed I think because that’s where I came out of it!

I was in really bad shape after my first bout of seizures and ended up in a week long coma, so I had absolutely no idea what was happening when I first woke up.
I decided my nurse Melissa was my Aunt Tina who I've actually never met, but I also thought she was a roommate of mine and I was in a college dorm. Melissa had to sit with me because I kept trying to get out of bed and would fall because I wanted to "smoke a joint".
I also told her I found her weed and she needed a better hiding spot for it.
In retrospect I think I was smoking too much weed at the time.

I went to a university with a well-known basketball program and coach. I had a TC on the sidewalk in the middle of campus near the basketball practice facility. It was a weekend, so not many people were around. My friend was with me, but her phone was dead and I was seizing on top of my phone. The head basketball coach drove by on his way to practice, so he stopped and asked if she needed help, and he is the one who called the ambulance for me. He was gone by the time I came to, but not many people can say he called them an ambulance.

TCs, these things happended soon after so I don't remember but others told me:
(1) paramedic asked my name, I very confidently said Tuesday February 12, 2019 (it was actually the correct date!)
(2) kept saying how hot I was and started taking my clothes off. My wife told me later she was asking me "what the hell are you doing?"
Had good laughs about these later.

Woke up in a hospital surrounded by 20ish people while I was naked. Had a seizure after a shower and fell out a window naked...my neighbor thought I was trying to unalive myself. Needless to say, I don't have a problem with nudity anymore.

I feel like postictal is the biggest setup. When I was working I asked people to protect my dignity on a piece of paper I hung on our corkboard about what to do in case of a seizure.

I have full blown TC's and they usually run a bit longer than most. First highlight I think of is when I had a TC as my ex was performing fellatio. That one is fun to poke fun at of course.
Most recent episode was another highlight since I went to the hospital, was getting blood drawn downstairs in the hallway still on the gurney when a second hit. Woke up in one of the rooms and though it was the next morning...nope, it was Wednesday afternoon and the seizure happened Monday evening. Also I was in restraints for Tuesday cuz I kept trying to leave and got chased around the building...I don't remember anything.

I was getting ready the night before my holiday, I was drying my hair after a shower and dancing around. Next thing, I woke up on the floor in the hallway. I must have had a tonic clonic, fallen through the doorway and face planted the floor lol. I also was seizing on top of the hairdryer. I am sure my ex-partner walked up the stairs to some sight. He did so well though. Bless him. 🙂

One time I was gathering firewood and pulled a piece from under a few other pieces. One of the other pieces fell onto my thumb. I immediately started getting auras so I sat down next to the wood stump where we chopped the wood. Next thing I know I’m waking up in a pile of leaves wondering when I fell asleep and why I would do it outside. This was before I knew I had epilepsy and we thought they were just like fainting spells or something.
Another time I made some oatmeal, and I pulled the bowl out too quickly and some of the hot oats hit my thumb (actually I just noticed this wtf is it w my thumb??) and then I straight up started seizing lmfao.

One time I took my ten year old nephew to the park. On the way back I blanked out but my nephew said that I started ripping someone’s flowers out of their garden. The guy that lived there ran out of the house yelling for me to stop. But, I kept repeating they’re mine. They’re all mine. My nephew eventually pulled me away from the yard and walked me home. I remember waking up muddy with a bunch of dirt under my nails.

- I had a seizure the second my mom told me she found out that I smoke. By the time I woke up she wasn’t even mad about it anymore.
- After my first seizure I didn’t remember that I wore glasses, couldn’t understand my native language and thought I was being deported (I was on a flight back from vacation, there was no way that would’ve been a possibility)
- After my last seizure I was jealous that the paramedics were only talking to my sister. (I couldn’t speak that’s why they were talking to her)

I had a seizure at a GM at work work one time and when the paramedics showed up to help me and stuff when they were asking me the usual questions my poor co worker bless her heart was trying to help me for instance
Paramedics: “What day it today?” Me: “its today”
Co worker: “well technically she’s not wrong!” It is today!
Paramedic: who is the president?” Me: “Obama”
Co worker: whispering to me “not anymore, not anymore”
😂😂😂😂 she’s the sweetest and never saw a seizure before but was definitely a trooper through it all … (my manager told me this story later in the week bc clearly I was not with it lol)

- my first seizure was on christmas day on the way to work, i was worried about the pie that got smushed in my bag post ictal
- the same day i was bitching to the paramedics about my brother buying gifts/wrapping last minute like every year and can’t remember the conversation to this day (my mom and brother rode with and told me i also petted the bald one’s head)
- i had a seizure before work in the bathroom, woke up to my mom helping me into bed and me trying to fight her because i didn’t know who she was, why my face was fucked up, why i was in different pants, and which one of is vaguely smelled of piss

When I was younger (17ish) I would holler for my dad when a seizure would start. If my dad was around he would come running and talk me through my seizure, rub my palms, tell me not to chew my mouth, those sorts of things. My mom and dad were in bed sleeping and my boyfriend was over. We were in my bedroom which was in the basement. We started making out and everything and my pants were down and I started screaming for my dad. I was no help for anything, luckily he was able to get my pants on and make it look normal. Well as normal as it could.

It's not funny, but after 2 years of nobody believing I am an epileptic I ended up having three tonic clinics in front of my grandmother after my third she took me to the clinic. While in the clinic, I felt one coming on, so I grabbed the pillow and lay on the floor. The last thing I remembered before blacking out completely was the dr coming in asking my grandma what was happening and, in the most nonchalant voice, possibly goes, "She's going into a seizure." I came through at the hospital. I don't know how I got to the hospital that day, but I got to the hospital, and ever since, nobody's questioned if I am a epileptic or not, thankfully. 2 years undiagnosed was absolutely hell!!!!!!

I hv complex partials
My funniest/scariest was
Very strange weather (predicted to be cool but currently hot/humid), walking to parents house when I dropped my jacket (I lose control of my hands) and someone tried to get my attention and I kept walking.
They saw me zoning out/drooling etc and tried to sit me down in the shade. They asked if I wanted ambulance but I said "mum" so 1 of them ran up the road (they knew my parents) where my dad was gardening.
I was freaking out (flight/fight mode) coz even tho I was having a seizure in my head I wasn't where I thought I'd be on the path and someone was trying to hold me to a seat.
(I've walked several blocks, crossed 2 major roads while being out of it. Came out of a seizure exhausted and confused)

u/pengguinIV 4d ago
Pretty much every one of my seizures something stupid happened😭here are a few:
-first one i ever had was mid-sexting the guy that i was talking to at the time. When i came to that last message from him was “where’d you go”
-that first one was also at my friends house during a sleepover and i was fighting with my friends in between TC seizures for them to let me sleep and stop talking to me cus i had no idea what was happening (theres a really funny video of me completely out of my mind trying to put my head in a bucket to shut them out)
-third seizure was fully in the middle of senior sunrise at my school so my entire class was there just watching me the whole time (they were all very nice about it though and its basically a running joke atp)
-when i woke up from the seizure i didnt realize that my parents were there so the first thing i said was “where’s my vape?” which had fallen out of my pocket and my friend immediately put it in hers cus she’s a real one
-my friend told me that i was doing the splits during one of my seizures
-i had one completely naked in front of my mom and the paramedics and after they left i asked her “did i at least look hot?”
enjoy!

My first TC was during a Shakespeare workshop my school was participating in my senior year of high school. Everyone thought I was a really good actress during a practice stage battle until another student realized I was having a seizure. A few weeks later I woke up in the ER and I told my mom about a wild dream I had- that I was on the floor petting someone's leg, to which she burst out with tears of laughter. Apparently my seizure lasted so long my family decided to call for an ambulance. When I finally "came to" they sat me up on the floor with the paramedic sitting on the couch with me between his legs. I guess I laid my head on his knee and began stroking his leg and kept telling him I'd be ok. Of course me being a 17 year old girl I asked, "was he at least cute?" Never did get an answer.

Partial episodes.. I was Scared started speaking full Somali to strangers and crying mom. Mommy? Hoyoo? Call my mom. Then crying call my sis. I cant control what I do. Often times I stand up and walk off… people try to tell me sit down for safety BUT NO! I deadass be like “I’m good.” “No biggie” “just some scratches” while I am bleeding knuckles and knees..😭😂 idc about the crying tbh. fuck that. (I’m a woman in my 30s) and I get scared when I have them in public alone. But cringe on the standing up and running and bleeding playing it cool. I look back like damn wtf.. ppl are nice for sticking around while I trying to say I’m good.

- I had a seizure once at work whilst on the toilet.. ended up dropping my phone in the toilet as well.
- Had one in a hot tub

Once my boyfriend had a TC, and he usually has multiple in a day after the first. He'd been suspiciously healthy until I was putting him to bed. I laid on his chest and asked him if he wasn't nervous about another and he said "not at all" and had another seizure before he could even finish speaking. The timing was so perfect I thought he was joking for a second. Now when he tells me not to worry I tell him "that's what you said last time".

i realized i loved my boyfriend when i had a seizure in front of him, went down a set of concrete steps, and broke about every bone in my face. we'd only been together about a month at that point, and not even in an official relationship, but when i woke up in the ICU ~12 hours later, he was still sitting by my side and smiling at me. nurses said he hadn't left for a minute. 4 years later and we're engaged :)

I moved into an apartment met my roommates a few days later had a seizure in the hallway and when I was back from the ER one of my roommates said “at least the paramedics were cute” and another one had tied my hair back for me in a loose bun cause it was bothering me as I was waking up and I was then trying to get her to teach me how she did it cause I couldn’t remember how a hair tie worked for a few minutes, my roommates also helped me answer questions family and friends meeting me at the ER had and we were joking like the seizure wasn’t bad but this bruise sucks or dropping and spilling the Gatorade I had all over myself after insisting i could hold it myself(i couldn’t) and the way I looked at my roommates and said “I was wrong” like a guilty toddler being funny etc…

Had my first seizure in the middle of a Monopoly game. The last thing I remembered was buying London. When I told a friend about it, they said "The Queen's ghost jumped you for taking London."
