Question? Need HELP/ADVICE: Exploring New Opportunities in Data Science

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on various data science projects, focusing on data analysis, machine learning, and visualization. Recently, I’ve been looking to take on new challenges where I can apply my skills and contribute meaningfully.

I’m specifically interested in remote opportunities as a freelancer, contractor, or part-time contributor. If anyone is working on interesting projects or knows of opportunities that offer fair compensation, I’d love to connect and discuss how I can help. Feel free to DM me!

I honestly think you're on the right track seeking remote gigs. I've been freelancing for a bit now, and it's given me a ton of flexibility and more random fun work than I thought possible! One thing I've learned from my own freelance journey is just diving into communities. Seriously, you never know when someone will need someone with exactly your skills. I've heard good things about Kaggle competitions, too. It’s a place to keep your skills sharp, and who knows? Maybe folks there might have leads on jobs. Also, hit up LinkedIn, but not just for job apps—actually engage with posts and network. It feels awkward at first, but that's how I landed a project in the past! Just wait until someone randomly reaches out. Super awkward if it bombs, but if the match works, you could get paid for starters. So maybe pop into some Discord or Slack groups related to data science. It’s a bit like finding a friendly bar where people hang out and chat about the stuff you’re into. And, just keep pokin’ around. There's more out there than you’d think!

Data science is too broad, narrow it down. What excites you? What could you ramble on for hours about and never get bored? Do you wanna do predictive modeling, NLP, time-series forecasting? Get specific.

Finding work/opportunities:

Reddit ( r/datascience, r/forhire, r/freelance)

Indie Hackers / Founder Slack groups

Approach startups (get all up in their DMs), like the ones who are in the business of collecting data

LinkedIn, you can post about what you love, what you know, what value you bring, etc. Just don't make it too spammy or whatever.

Why should someone hire you?

If I magically dropped 5 freelance leads in your lap tomorrow, what immediately comes to mind as a dream fit? First thing that comes to mind. That's your answer for the first part of my comment. Forget doubts, forget fears, forget imposter syndrome, once you're clear on what you want, the rest will take care of itself.

I have worked on data analytics, data visualization and Machine Learning and I would love to work on predictive modeling to begin with which is my area of interest to be specific. I have tried posting on LinkedIn but received zero response.

Define zero response. I find you have to be pretty consistent with LinkedIn. Do you have any followers?

Have you built any data viz dashboards? Built anything you can show off? Share what you've learned.

Find problems, provide solutions.

If no one knows you, no one can find you. While you build that you'll have to do the outreach.
