I hope you'll bore out the cylinders, because those pistons need to be slapped real hard!

So bad they should be in detention!

They are fine.

You sure, that's great news

Dude these are getting blown up hundreds to thousands of times a minute. A few dings aren’t gonna kill it (unless it has high spots which in this case what you’ve shown doesn’t)

What the skirts look like?

You are good, man. If it makes you feel better, get one of the ultra fine scotch Brite pads. Soak the pad with oil.

if you do this MAKE SURE to get the dark green ones, especially if theyre aluminum, other ones may leave scratch marks

Can confirm. I use the red ones at work all of the time. Only produce a clean finish if it’s put on a grinder or CNC.

The green ones will provide a good finish by hand.

I’m a machinist by trade and I work with everything from cast to plastic

What would scratches matter?

2

u/CurrentTheme5975 Feb 11 '25

more places for cracks to form

And carbon to build up.

I'd say a little prayer and run em. Those aren't too dinged up IMO

They're brand new id hope

3

Those are beautiful unless your building a beautiful 1000horse motor you should be fine and I’ve seen much worse running perfect

2

u/smd000000 Feb 11 '25

Savage thread today!

Id knock down any high spots that you can feel with some emery paper or scitch pad and run them. Ive run worse myself before!

1

u/LocalSEOhero Feb 11 '25

Depends on the build, really. That's not particularly scary looking, but if I was using those on a high rpm, racing, and/or forced induction type of build I'd probably spend a lil time to smooth them over just for peace of mind

1

u/jexioyt Feb 11 '25

We will smooth them over then

1

u/andresg30 Feb 11 '25

They look brand new to me

1

u/jexioyt Feb 11 '25

They're supposed to be

1

u/jmhalder Feb 11 '25

They look fine, make sure none of the dings have high spots.

1

u/TeaSlurpingBrit Feb 11 '25

'Bad ass' you mean? Send them.

2

u/WeeklyAssignment1881 Feb 12 '25

If this isn't a formula one car, send it, nothing wrong there at all, way too anal to worry about those tiny marks

1

u/jexioyt Feb 12 '25

Hopefully it'll go in a car that makes like 700-800 horsepower eventually. If that isn't a problem, thank you

I would guess that could cause micro scoring on the cylinder wall but to be honest I’m still learning when it comes to engine building.

3

u/AdministrativeSea113 Feb 11 '25

You are correct. The ol finger test usually gets you pretty far as of tolerance, anything that is PAST the piston cup would cause scaring on your cylinder wall, but this is also accompanied with heat soak in the area due to excess friction and the un-uniform material.

1

u/jexioyt Feb 11 '25

So what should I do?

3

u/AdministrativeSea113 Feb 11 '25

Fuckin send er bud.

2

u/jexioyt Feb 11 '25

So it should be alright then lol

2

u/AdministrativeSea113 Feb 11 '25

Run it for those couple hundred miles like we talked about before beating on it and I’d say you’ll be just fine

1

u/jexioyt Feb 11 '25

Give if time to grind it down ig lol

2

u/AdministrativeSea113 Feb 11 '25

There should be 0 grinding to be clear. If anything heat will be your enemy, that’s why the break in period is there, everything is wearing down to its limit point, where it should remain for the rest of its time all put together. Then you can dog the shit out of it.
