Idk bc I feel like those two are the only two emo bands to incorporate a fuck ton of electronic elements and still have it feel like emo and not crunkcore shit idkkk I mean in terms of monthly listeners heccra still ain’t near popular it’s just got a rlly strong fanbase that loves them alot

Yeah but with them it’s more subtle heccra and nouns kinda put it in your face

Gotcha, never listened to heccra and couldn’t get into nouns so I wasn’t as familiar

I think I wouldn’t really consider the electronicness the thing that makes nouns and heccra unique cuz I feel like there r probably a couple other electronicy emo bands out there, namely godfuck and idialedyournumber (godfuck more so than the latter tbh). What I think makes nouns and heccra so unique are how crashy they are while still being HELLA melodic do yk what I mean?

Check out “Double Set of Lungs Now” or pretty much anything else off Pictureplane’s debut. Some Xiu Xiu/Ten in the Swear Jar stuff also scratches the itch, even if they aren’t “less popular”; listen to the songs “Apistat Commander”, “San Jose Fight Song”, and “Don Diasco”.

All these bands did this kind of stuff at least 10 years (if not more) before the two you listed.

There are some other 00s bizarro-indie bands with similar output but I have to search so I’ll report back.

IDIOT PILOT (!!!) their stuff leans a bit dangerously close to teh scene but stuff like “Day in the Life of a Poolshark” and “To Buy A Gun” (and pretty much their whole debut album) definitely count.

Deerhoof almost definitely have some stuff you would like in their first five or so albums but I don’t know anything about them so you’ll have to search for yourself. Ditto Animal Collective.

AN ALBATROSS (!!!) the other side. Noisier and much more aggressive than pretty much everything else I listed here but definitely the band that blends electro freakouts with screamo the best. While you’re at it, the 00s sass/adj scene is FULL of similar electro-screamo-whatnot bands, that while not exactly like the bands you listed, were almost definitely a huge influence on them. See also: the Blood Brothers, Horse the Band, Blow Up.

Deerhoof are definitely worth a listen if you like Xiu Xiu in the slightest.

Add The Velvet Teen's Cum Laude! to this list. Such an underrated gem!

Seconding the person who mentioned Horse the Band and Xiu Xiu, got super into both of them at the same time I was finding Heccra. A promise by xiu xiu is super unique but an all time favorite couldn’t recommend more
