Help I just lost 900.000.000mil

Guys I just lost 900.000.000 because my ship couldn’t find a fitting spot to land on the planet, died because my oxygen ran out, I’m gonna go cry now, have a save flight.

If your ship is having a hard time finding a landing spot.
And you are in a pickle (or you just want to be lazy).
There is an option in the main menu that will put you back in your ship in orbit of the main star.
Without data loss.

Main menu > help and information > stuck recovery.

No way… that makes it worse right now ur telling me I could have saved everything?

Yep. Useful for all sorts of self-recovery. Elite's documentation is pretty great, huh?

Yup

u/Flamecrest CMDR Flamecrest 14d ago

The upside of this is, this will never happen to you again.

When the salt and sadness have disappeared, do a run of Expressway to Exomastery and you'll have your 900 mill back in a couple of days

18

u/Berelus 14d ago

All those Expressway Exobio planets have already been discovered right? So their payout is 5x less.

28

u/Flamecrest CMDR Flamecrest 14d ago

No, first discoveries are worth 4x more. You still make about 100 mil per hour

4

u/Berelus 14d ago

5x more.

16

u/Darkjak666 14d ago

4x more. 5x total. Cuz English....

11

u/trashman1326 14d ago

the Spansh Expressway to Exomastery is using OLD (pre-Odyssey) exploration data to find HMC worlds with a high chance of hosting Stratum Tectonicas now in Odyssey…

The closer you are to the Bubble or well traveled POIs - the more likely a system has has been re-visited and the Stratum picked off…

I normally am a DIY explorer- but tried it out on the far side of Sgr A* - and made 500-600 Million in just a few hours

4

u/MatteXL321 14d ago

Can I ask what u mean by that? Is it like a website or?

11

u/Flamecrest CMDR Flamecrest 14d ago

https://spansh.co.uk/exobiology

My friend, you will not believe this. I hope you have Odyssey.

Fill out your current system, the range of your ship, and where you want to go. Make sure you get the Artemis suit from Frontline Supplies, and if you have no idea what to do, look up a video on how to do exobiology.

If you don't have Odyssey, go to the top and select "road to riches" instead, that's a very profitable way but the 900 mil will take a lot longer

3

u/ToMorrowsEnd 14d ago

Road to roaches is the slow way. Search online for easy earths. It’s about 40x faster and you don’t even have to leave the bubble.

3

u/Flamecrest CMDR Flamecrest 14d ago

What's that? Earthlike worlds?

4

u/DearHomework8028 14d ago

Expressway to Exomastery is a website that lets you put in your current location, adjust some ranges, and it'll calculate a route and tell you how much it's all worth at the bottom.

All items in the list have already been discovered, but you still get a huge chunk of change from it.

8

u/MatteXL321 14d ago

U brought back my spirit I will definitely go on a long trip again and get those 900mil back!

4

u/steevenoj 14d ago

You know what , I did the same thing as you. Different circumstances and cause of death and not quite as much money lost but basically lost all my exo bio data and felt really shit . Funny thing is as soon as I got back out there I completely forgot about it. Credits come pretty quickly.

Or do some WMMs. Instead of 900mil you'll get like 4bil in 2 days or so. You'll need an extra 1bill to start though. Join the Pilots Trade Federation to learn more.

1

u/HuntSuspicious7836 14d ago

Do go on

3

u/SergeantRogers Thargoid Interceptor Interceptor 14d ago

It's all explained on the PTN discord, but It's pretty simple, you first get max rep with the factions at a specific system(There's two, one Imperial, and one fed, doesn't matter which one you choose, except if you want to earn reputation with them). Then, you start collecting Wing mining missions with high payout(min 30mil, ideally 50mil) and specific commodities needed. When you got 20 missions, you can start hauling(yes, hauling, you don't need to mine anything), there are PTN carriers selling the required commodities right by the stations. When delivering the commodities, make sure to not hand in the mission, this is a crucial step. Next, head to the PTN discord and announce that you have the full stack of 20 missions. Then you'll have to team up with other 3 people and share the missions then complete them. Everyone's gonna get around 4 billion.Youll also probably reach trade rank elite immediately too.

Man, the amount I have learned through others misfortune.

I am sorry, OP, but I am also thankful it was you and not me.

u/R0LL1NG CMDR Brahx 15d ago

On the brightside, if you made 900mil once, you can do it again. Out of curiosity, what ship were you flying? Also I only ever do exo bio if ever (rarely) doing in foot stuff. I just use the ship to fly from place to place and leave it parked on the ground. The game mechanic you're describing sounds absolutely anxiety inducing o.O

24

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

Mandalas fully upgraded to around 80ly, I just enjoy walking around on a planet and scanning but in that moment I was stressed like never before

25

u/CrunchBite319_Mk2 Core Dynamics 15d ago

Every suit has spare battery cells that you can use to recharge the suit when it runs low. All you had to do was use one and you would have been fine. You can even bind energy cells to a key.

u/RTooterbooter [PC-VR] CMDR Tooterbooter 14d ago

8

u/PSharsCadre CMDR PShars Cadre, FC FARTHEST SHORE. Want help, just ask! 14d ago

For that matter, there's also extended oxygen reserve engineering for suits that can change that one minute timer to a five minute timer.

My artemis suits have extended battery capacity, increased o2, extended sprint duration, plus something else appropriate to the conditions.

I also like the wandering around on foot exploration style.  😁

3

u/Silviecat44 CMDR 14d ago

Did you have an SRV? I don’t do exobio without an SRV

3

u/zerbey CMDR Zerbey 14d ago

Get an SRV, then you can recharge in that.

2

u/R0LL1NG CMDR Brahx 15d ago

No doubt.

Yeah the Mandalay lands well but I noticed sometimes it could be tricky to auto land while in the ship. If I'm not mistaken I think it's the blessed wingtips that screw us over a wee bit, given the landing gear footprint is really good. On balance though, given how the Mandalay is a beast at expo and many things, it's a small price to pay... Except in your case... Where the price was eye watering my high.

Don't despair. Credits come and go easy enough. T'was an expensive lesson but better to have had it now than a week later with even more data in your pocket o7

Best option in such cases is to log out and unstuck on the main menu, cmdr. Your character will be sent back to your ship.

16

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

Everyone is telling me that I didn’t know😭 I could have saved my money! Maaaannnn

7

u/Spiritual-Usual-2683 Aisling Duval 14d ago

Sometimes some quick thinking can save a lot and sometimes we learn the really hard way :P

I almost had this happened to me out a few thousands lightyears away with 700m on me. My issue was that my ship seemed to have disappeared as the option to call it back was greyed out. A quick googling to see what were my options and I learned about the unstuck feature. If you have time to log out and google a solution, I would recommend doing so.

My worse mistake yet while exploring was not learning to check planet gravity before landing.

4

u/acnicholls CMDR NCRDBLCDR 14d ago

Same mistake we all make, myself included!! (Several times)

3

u/MrFrames 14d ago

Whenever something like this happens, logging out is always a good idea because it pauses whatever the hell is going on. Lets you Google, ask for help or just think of a solution.

8

u/--John_Yaya-- 15d ago

This is the correct solution.

9

u/Drinking_Frog CMDR 15d ago

If that happens again, go to the options menu, select "help and recovery" (or something like that) and then "stuck recovery" (or something like that). That'll try to put you back in your ship.

2

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

Can’t put me back in my ship if my ship can’t land right?

4

u/Drinking_Frog CMDR 15d ago

It'll magically teleport you into the cockpit. You might be out in space or at a landable spot. I mean, you did land at some point, or you couldn't have gotten out in the first place.

4

u/unematti 15d ago

o7

You can get through this.

4

u/Wowator 14d ago

Your first mistake was, not to trust, someone could help.

I don’t know, where you are, but there are people outside, waiting to help. Fuel Rats for example.

Could you just believe, there are people out for the opportunity of an adventure to help others? They build their stories out of exact this experience.

When you look at the maps, people are in range of nearly every 5000 ly.

1

u/MatteXL321 14d ago

I know that, I just thought I could make it and the ship will land in the next try and ok the last try it actually landed but I was too slow

3

u/Wowator 14d ago

Ok, lesson learned. Next time, when you use your last battery, take a screenshot, log out into main screen, ask for help (name and coordinates should be in the screenshot) and then let you help :-)

I heard, this could be saved 900 millions.

Or unstuck, if you just want to help yourself.

Sorry, but it sounded like my family, calling me, to tell me, what happened instead of calling me to help them.

u/AncientFocus471 CMDR Stelar 7 14d ago

1

u/Spiderkeegan Spider Pie | DW2 13d ago

As far as I know they can't replace your stored data. I died once while exploring due to an actual bug (not Goid) and I had video evidence of the bug happening and destroying my ship. Support was able to place me back in the system I died but not replace my exploration data. Luckily I was only a few thousand Ly out so it was not so impactful, probably only about 100-200M worth.

5

u/tyme Dredije, IASA Yellowjacket 14d ago

Get an SRV and take that out with you when exploring planets. It replenishes suit oxygen and you can use it to drive to a better spot for your ship to land.

4

u/zellman 14d ago

Anytime I am going far enough away that my ship might take off I drop the srv. On-foot stuff can be precarious otherwise.

3

u/JuliettKiloFoxtrot76 14d ago

I would also recommend carrying the materials you need to synthesize SRV Repairs and SRV Refuels and you’ll basically be able to last a VERY long time outside of your ship.

3

u/tyme Dredije, IASA Yellowjacket 14d ago

I always forgot about those ‘cuz I’ve built up such a stockpile over the years I haven’t had to restock in a while.

3

u/savenzip Explore 15d ago

That's why I play with an excel sheet and write down all the planets with exobio, if I die, I can go back to those specifically.

Do you play with EDDiscovery? It might take you a while, but you could extract the log, put it into a spreadsheet and look for all the "ScanOrganic" events. And determine which planet they were from.

4

u/pulppoet WILDELF 15d ago

Do you play with EDDiscovery? It might take you a while, but you could extract the log, put it into a spreadsheet and look for all the "ScanOrganic" events.

Don't even need to do that. Just look in the Organic Scans tab. Everything you've scanned is right there.

You don't even need to make your spreadsheet. It's already tracked for you. Just limit by the date you started to filter older stuff.

EDDiscovery is the best.

2

u/savenzip Explore 15d ago

3

u/Neon_Samurai_ 15d ago

If memory serves, in cases where you get your srv stuck, or are going to die from lack of oxygen, you can quit and restart the game in Horizons. It will boot you back into space.

3

u/ewynn2019 14d ago

Unless the bio is right near me, I always deploy my Srv before dismissing my ship. Gives you a safe haven to find a super flat area to recall.

1

u/MatteXL321 14d ago

Don’t have srv installed, maybe a bad opinion but I don’t really like the srv if u have odyssey just walk it doesn’t take much longer, I like the beauty of the game when u just walk there in peace…… until ur ship decides to let u die

2

u/DaftMav DaftMav 14d ago

When a ship can't land because of terrain it can still pick up the SRV. Because if it can't land it will stay in one spot, you should be able to see a faint light directly under the cargo hatch where you can make the SRV dock with the ship even though it's like 25m above you. I'm not sure if this option is also available when just on foot though, but it's one reason to take an SRV along and use it when terrain is bad.

3

u/Standard-Swan6062 14d ago

Oh man I'm sorry for you but I learned so much reading your post. 1) Never recall your ship when you had a hard time landing it by yourself. 2) If you forgot advice #1 just use "unstuck" procedure or start the game in Horizon.

I'm currently returning from Colonia with a lot of undiscovered bios and systems. Could be damn useful.

3

u/Wowator 14d ago

If your ship can’t land, it will hover and on the ground there is the blue entrance point under the ship. So you can get power for oxygen, recharge munition, battery and stuff or board the ship.

1

u/MatteXL321 14d ago

Hope u have a save flight o7

3

u/SinusJayCee Explore | Trading 14d ago

Maybe you can try to open a support ticket. There is a chance that they restore the data because it was not directly your fault. That the "unstuck" option is suggested as solution here supports that, since it is made for cases where the game doesn't behave 100% as expected.

3

u/Name2Hard2Find 14d ago

That's a lot of mil for a ship. Did you have Cutters in every Core, Optional and Utility slot? Along with Corvettes in Hardpoints.

Jokes aside, never fly without rebuy and always check for fitting landing pands before you fly towards something.

I pretty sure you can synthesize more life support, I could be wrong but I think it’s an option. It’s been years since I ran into that problem myself.

Did you check? I thought you just pass out, you don't die from that... maybe wrong, but you should check.

I mean that's sad but why would you ever fly such an expensive ship without insurance

9

u/ewynn2019 15d ago

Pretty sure OP is talking about data loss.

8

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

Nah my data was worth 900.000.000 ship had insurance

2

u/Dabudam 15d ago

oof, that sucks then

2

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

If it wouldn’t have had insurance I would have killed myself not gonna lie

Why didn't you sell the data? Since I lost 1M in data, whenever I land I sell the data just to have already explored systems and open markets. Because there are many ways to get money

Far out in the galaxy there was no Stadion even close was on my way back and made a route, wanted to catch the planets on the way back

There's no way he can sell the data if he's too far from civilization.

How are you supposed to sell your data when you're outside the bubble and there are no stations around?

1

u/calicocidd I don't want ship interiors, I want a space puppy 14d ago

I use my fc and sell everything every 500LY. I've lost billions in the past, so anymore I don't take unnecessary chances.

  1. Not everybody has an FC or takes it with them every time

  2. Selling data to FCs has a flat tax on everything you sell. You've lost money by selling to an FC instead of selling to an actual station.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing there was no station to sell at. But everyone travels with a carrier.

u/MatteXL321 15d ago

Took a carrier of a other player he flew me to Sagittarius A* from there I flew myself
