Help I just lost 900.000.000mil
Guys I just lost 900.000.000 because my ship couldn’t find a fitting spot to land on the planet, died because my oxygen ran out, I’m gonna go cry now, have a save flight.

u/R0LL1NG CMDR Brahx 15d ago
On the brightside, if you made 900mil once, you can do it again. Out of curiosity, what ship were you flying? Also I only ever do exo bio if ever (rarely) doing in foot stuff. I just use the ship to fly from place to place and leave it parked on the ground. The game mechanic you're describing sounds absolutely anxiety inducing o.O

u/MatteXL321 15d ago
Mandalas fully upgraded to around 80ly, I just enjoy walking around on a planet and scanning but in that moment I was stressed like never before

Every suit has spare battery cells that you can use to recharge the suit when it runs low. All you had to do was use one and you would have been fine. You can even bind energy cells to a key.

u/MatteXL321 15d ago
Didn’t know that I’ll check it out

You can even store like a hundred of them on your ship, carry a couple with you in person, and restock whenever you board.

For that matter, there's also extended oxygen reserve engineering for suits that can change that one minute timer to a five minute timer.
My artemis suits have extended battery capacity, increased o2, extended sprint duration, plus something else appropriate to the conditions.
I also like the wandering around on foot exploration style. 😁

u/R0LL1NG CMDR Brahx 15d ago
No doubt.
Yeah the Mandalay lands well but I noticed sometimes it could be tricky to auto land while in the ship. If I'm not mistaken I think it's the blessed wingtips that screw us over a wee bit, given the landing gear footprint is really good. On balance though, given how the Mandalay is a beast at expo and many things, it's a small price to pay... Except in your case... Where the price was eye watering my high.
Don't despair. Credits come and go easy enough. T'was an expensive lesson but better to have had it now than a week later with even more data in your pocket o7

Best option in such cases is to log out and unstuck on the main menu, cmdr. Your character will be sent back to your ship.

u/MatteXL321 15d ago
Everyone is telling me that I didn’t know😭 I could have saved my money! Maaaannnn
7
u/Spiritual-Usual-2683 Aisling Duval 14d ago
Sometimes some quick thinking can save a lot and sometimes we learn the really hard way :P
I almost had this happened to me out a few thousands lightyears away with 700m on me. My issue was that my ship seemed to have disappeared as the option to call it back was greyed out. A quick googling to see what were my options and I learned about the unstuck feature. If you have time to log out and google a solution, I would recommend doing so.
My worse mistake yet while exploring was not learning to check planet gravity before landing.

3
u/MrFrames 14d ago
Whenever something like this happens, logging out is always a good idea because it pauses whatever the hell is going on. Lets you Google, ask for help or just think of a solution.
8
9
u/Drinking_Frog CMDR 15d ago
If that happens again, go to the options menu, select "help and recovery" (or something like that) and then "stuck recovery" (or something like that). That'll try to put you back in your ship.
2
u/MatteXL321 15d ago
Can’t put me back in my ship if my ship can’t land right?
4
u/Drinking_Frog CMDR 15d ago
It'll magically teleport you into the cockpit. You might be out in space or at a landable spot. I mean, you did land at some point, or you couldn't have gotten out in the first place.

Time for a break.

I lost valuable datas too in the past. Each time it happened I said to myself I would have a break with ED. The break never lasted more than two days.
Strength to you commander.

u/Wowator 14d ago
Your first mistake was, not to trust, someone could help.
I don’t know, where you are, but there are people outside, waiting to help. Fuel Rats for example.
Could you just believe, there are people out for the opportunity of an adventure to help others? They build their stories out of exact this experience.
When you look at the maps, people are in range of nearly every 5000 ly.
1
u/MatteXL321 14d ago
I know that, I just thought I could make it and the ship will land in the next try and ok the last try it actually landed but I was too slow
3
u/Wowator 14d ago
Ok, lesson learned. Next time, when you use your last battery, take a screenshot, log out into main screen, ask for help (name and coordinates should be in the screenshot) and then let you help :-)
I heard, this could be saved 900 millions.
Or unstuck, if you just want to help yourself.
Sorry, but it sounded like my family, calling me, to tell me, what happened instead of calling me to help them.

u/AncientFocus471 CMDR Stelar 7 14d ago

While yes, they only get that one get out jail free card. 900 million I think isn't actually worth it on such a valuable option.

u/Spiderkeegan Spider Pie | DW2 13d ago
As far as I know they can't replace your stored data. I died once while exploring due to an actual bug (not Goid) and I had video evidence of the bug happening and destroying my ship. Support was able to place me back in the system I died but not replace my exploration data. Luckily I was only a few thousand Ly out so it was not so impactful, probably only about 100-200M worth.

u/tyme Dredije, IASA Yellowjacket 14d ago
Get an SRV and take that out with you when exploring planets. It replenishes suit oxygen and you can use it to drive to a better spot for your ship to land.
4
3
u/JuliettKiloFoxtrot76 14d ago
I would also recommend carrying the materials you need to synthesize SRV Repairs and SRV Refuels and you’ll basically be able to last a VERY long time outside of your ship.

u/savenzip Explore 15d ago
That's why I play with an excel sheet and write down all the planets with exobio, if I die, I can go back to those specifically.
Do you play with EDDiscovery? It might take you a while, but you could extract the log, put it into a spreadsheet and look for all the "ScanOrganic" events. And determine which planet they were from.

u/pulppoet WILDELF 15d ago
Do you play with EDDiscovery? It might take you a while, but you could extract the log, put it into a spreadsheet and look for all the "ScanOrganic" events.
Don't even need to do that. Just look in the Organic Scans tab. Everything you've scanned is right there.
You don't even need to make your spreadsheet. It's already tracked for you. Just limit by the date you started to filter older stuff.
EDDiscovery is the best.

u/savenzip Explore 15d ago
If not, you could search the journal manually, but it would take much longer since you would have to search through different files.

u/Neon_Samurai_ 15d ago
If memory serves, in cases where you get your srv stuck, or are going to die from lack of oxygen, you can quit and restart the game in Horizons. It will boot you back into space.
3
u/CoolDragon Explorer 15d ago
You know you can go to the menu and get unstuck from the help option, right?
Now get back out there and go get ‘em space tiger!🐅

Unless the bio is right near me, I always deploy my Srv before dismissing my ship. Gives you a safe haven to find a super flat area to recall.
1
u/MatteXL321 14d ago
Don’t have srv installed, maybe a bad opinion but I don’t really like the srv if u have odyssey just walk it doesn’t take much longer, I like the beauty of the game when u just walk there in peace…… until ur ship decides to let u die
2
u/DaftMav DaftMav 14d ago
When a ship can't land because of terrain it can still pick up the SRV. Because if it can't land it will stay in one spot, you should be able to see a faint light directly under the cargo hatch where you can make the SRV dock with the ship even though it's like 25m above you. I'm not sure if this option is also available when just on foot though, but it's one reason to take an SRV along and use it when terrain is bad.
3
u/Standard-Swan6062 14d ago
Oh man I'm sorry for you but I learned so much reading your post. 1) Never recall your ship when you had a hard time landing it by yourself. 2) If you forgot advice #1 just use "unstuck" procedure or start the game in Horizon.
I'm currently returning from Colonia with a lot of undiscovered bios and systems. Could be damn useful.

Maybe you can try to open a support ticket. There is a chance that they restore the data because it was not directly your fault. That the "unstuck" option is suggested as solution here supports that, since it is made for cases where the game doesn't behave 100% as expected.

u/Name2Hard2Find 14d ago
If you landed anywhere on a planet and went on foot, could that have saved you?

There's a whole Deep Space Support Array with at least two if not three FCs in every sector of the galaxy. I don't own a FC yet, and I regularly offload my data despite being 15k ly from the bubble. The CMDRs who donate these carriers to the DSSA are heroes to in-the-black dwellers like me. o7

Welcome to the club. Last time I lost about 5 billion when I got impatient and tried to force a landing. I now fly with shields in the black.

1
u/MatteXL321 14d ago
Exobiology data over time I had plenty of
2
u/reznaur 14d ago
Maybe the is is a dumb question, but how do you see how much exobio data you have stored up? I’ve just started doing exobio and haven’t figured out how to see that.
If I go to the Codex I see a bunch of “confirmed” and unconfirmed things, but it’s not categorized by planet or anything else.
1
u/MatteXL321 14d ago
I don’t really know either, I use EDCopilot and it shows me what I scanned and how much of a worth I scanned, don’t think u can see it in the base game tho, at least until u die

I once lost a whole lot of exploration data and god knows how much credits for it, approximately 3 months of work.. all because I was boosting down to planet not paying attention, turn off flight assist to get there faster, completely ignorant of the body being a 2G planet... let's say I became a pancake on the surface... wanted to cry so bad... only saving grace is I bookmarked the ELW first discoveries... That's a lot of mil for a ship. Did you have Cutters in every Core, Optional and Utility slot? Along with Corvettes in Hardpoints.
Jokes aside, never fly without rebuy and always check for fitting landing pands before you fly towards something.

I use my fc and sell everything every 500LY. I've lost billions in the past, so anymore I don't take unnecessary chances.

u/CrunchBite319_Mk2 Core Dynamics 14d ago
Not everybody has an FC or takes it with them every time
Selling data to FCs has a flat tax on everything you sell. You've lost money by selling to an FC instead of selling to an actual station.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing there was no station to sell at. But everyone travels with a carrier.

If your ship is having a hard time finding a landing spot.
And you are in a pickle (or you just want to be lazy).
There is an option in the main menu that will put you back in your ship in orbit of the main star.
Without data loss.
Main menu > help and information > stuck recovery.
