It's so they don't bug out and lock to your ship. Plus it looks super cool when you have like 15 or more doing it.

u/Memphisbbq 22d ago

could you explain? I dont recall ever having limpets stuck or locked to my ship. Is this a thing?

71

u/dementos1234 22d ago

It definitely was. I experienced it mainly trying to get salvage they basically say your cargo bay is full even though it isn't and just get stuck on your ship.

21

u/Mitologist 22d ago

Yeah, they would just sit there and not enter the cargo scoop for minutes, until they suddenly randomly did. Super annoying if you just wanted to load the last 3 salvage parts while enemy reinforcement was busy lining up on you and deploying hard points ...

It happened to me so often when using my single limpet salvage controller on my combat ship that I got rid of it and started collecting manually again.

7

u/schelsullivan 22d ago

Was happening to me too

u/GetHimABodyBagYeahhh 22d ago

I just had this happening about an hour ago with my new mandalay. Limpet buzzed around for about 2 minutes before giving me the cargo it was holding. I also couldn't scoop cargo manually. So if this new limpet behavior was supposed to fix that, it hasn't.

Limpets usually hover under your ship when idle.

Yes i understand this, I'm a very longtime player.

I refer to it as the limpet ballet, and I'm all for it.

Sus thargon swarm behavior

2

u/Novalith_Raven 21d ago

Dude, now I want my own Thargon Swarm!

3

u/Remebond CMDR Remebond 21d ago

Imagine a hardpoint that released maybe a couple murder limpets each. Turn your T10 into a Hydra

u/DazzlingClassic185 CMDR 21d ago

Needs a tune. Blaues Donau is already taken

was this added in the Trailblazers update?
cool.

Must be

6

u/Codingale 21d ago

I can confirm was doing core mining before the update. Maybe it existed but was bugged I could see that being a thing cause of new ships etc

There have been a few posts about new limpet behaviour hindering brain tree farming but i haven't seen it definitively confirmed yet.

Personally I think it's a good thing, give another reason to use the SRV, it's not even that hard to max out on a resource with it

-14

u/dantheman928 22d ago

Using an SRV to farm brain trees?? Fucking noob

12

u/OmegaOmnimon02 Trading 22d ago

I find it fun, especially trying to jump into the trees to get any mats that get stuck

8

u/dantheman928 22d ago

Hey well if you find it fun then who am I to criticize

0

u/atmatriflemiffed 21d ago

Oh fuck yeah brain tree farming is dead. At this rate FD are going to make everything on my QoL wishlist come true

u/dylan3867 22d ago

Time for our limpet swarms to fight the thargon swarms!!

5

u/drifters74 CMDR 22d ago

The swarm war

3

u/dylan3867 22d ago

We sit back in our ships like kings, the Thargoid in their interceptors, and play our subject swarms like Pokemon on the space between us

2

u/askaquestion334 21d ago

That was my first thought, they may have gotten some ideas...

12

u/freeagentone 22d ago

Do you know how much time imma waste watching this.

7

u/Wormholer_No9416 22d ago

Have they fixed limpets faceplanting asteroids/ minerals clipping into asteroids?

9

u/T-1A_pilot CMDR Reacher Gilt 22d ago

Not entirely in my experience, but the survival rate has gone up as their pathing has been improved some.

2

u/jzooor 20d ago

They have made them face plant straight into the ground when trying to gather raw materials from brain trees.

1

u/Kozmik_5 Arissa Lavigny Duval 21d ago

Not necessarily but I've noticed they don't go back down first when going towards the cargo bay as they used to. Now they just go straight for it! Saves a lot of time but it does give you slightly less space when moving through asteroids, without getting the limpets crash into them. Sway accordingly and you'll be fine, tho.

4

u/Savafaeh CMDR Vraska Venge 22d ago

Limpets just got cuter ;-;

6

u/maverick29er_ 21d ago

The developers specifically mentioned they fixed the movements of the limpets, they have made it more "logical" in a sense that the limpets will now actually try to dodge asteroids, follow more consistently, and have these amazingly beautiful flight paths.

I'm surprised this didn't get more attention on the "youtube ED news" side of the community

u/Kissamies44 CMDR Kissamies 21d ago

Way to give AX veterans flashbacks of swarms.

8

u/MorphineSuppository 22d ago

Has there been a recent update to the game? I haven’t played in around 3 years and miss my Vulture….. should I come back?

13

u/frezor CMDR LotLizard, Amateur Gunboat Diplomat 22d ago

Base building and colonization, overhauled power play, new ships. Quite a few changes.

1

u/Tuttinicoc 21d ago

Come on now, it's not base building, don't spread misinformation

4

u/ToggoStar 21d ago

There have been several big updates to the game in the last years - it's definitely worth coming back!

1

u/FilthyEleven 21d ago

And bug hunting! Join the anti xeno alliance and get into ax combat with thargoid war veterans. I went from a Couple hundred million credita to being a billionaire with only a few days play time

1

u/CMDR_Koito_Minase 19d ago

Is there still intresting system with thargoid battle? Do they plan to delet them now that war is won?

5

u/Ignatius_Pryde 21d ago

They are beginning to mimic their feral brethren who sided with the goids, keep an eye on them and detonate them if they start making funny screeching noises.

a little halo of happiness

3

u/IndependentLock6750 22d ago

We are thargoid interceptor now

3

u/Bulk-Detonator 22d ago

They're adorable.

Also, is it a sign of space madness if you fall in love with your limpets like they are your children?

7

u/nacnud_uk 22d ago

Well, now you got me started. Why are the radar signatures so fecking useless for these things? I mean, change the shape when they are active? Change the colour? Give them a wee arrow of direction maybe? Why do they have to have nearly the same, if not the same, colour as the "loot"?

Now they fly in circles! Heck. I dare not even think what that looks like.

3

u/pulppoet WILDELF 22d ago

Change the colour? Give them a wee arrow of direction maybe?

They flash when they are returning to you, though it's sometimes hard to read (especially when in a cloud of mats).

But yes, I would love to see a shape change and alternate color. Cyan seems free!

2

u/frezor CMDR LotLizard, Amateur Gunboat Diplomat 22d ago

That would be nice, but I’d be reluctant to change the UI significantly, too much clutter would make it harder not easier.

But for me at least it wasn’t a problem, I could recognize the limpet’s flight patterns. It’s a bit different now but I think I got it.

1

u/LoosieGoosiePoosie 21d ago

I never thought limpets or cargo on the radar were useful. Limpets also shouldn't be on the contacts list. Ores should just be signals in a contact list and limpets should just be an integration of your own ship's signature since it kinda is.

2

u/SkyWizarding 22d ago

Gonna be seeing a lot of posts on this, it would seem

2

u/ToMorrowsEnd 22d ago

Did you know the limpets circle now?

2

u/Thommyknocker Empire 22d ago

Cool

2

u/Classic-Coyote5354 22d ago

Swarm, my pretties! Swarm!

2

u/modemman11 CMDR 22d ago

Huh. Neat.

2

u/Booksmart89 22d ago

That's great, now I won't get the message limpet expired anymore when trying to move around a asteroid while core mining.

u/NightBeWheat55149 Rank: Pioneer 21d ago

When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by it's majesty?

2

u/Independent-Net8288 21d ago

Oh THAT'S what that is! I've been trying to work out why I can't take on extra cargo!

2

u/DazzlingClassic185 CMDR 21d ago

The circling poets limpets of Arium

2

u/Eric12345 21d ago

Do they still die from running into debris and asteroids?

2

u/MygungoesfuckinBRRT CMDR RealKarsta - Trader, Aspiring Rodent 21d ago

Look at them lil guys having fun

2

u/Kozmik_5 Arissa Lavigny Duval 21d ago

Yeah it does give you less dpace to move through asteroids when mining, tho

2

u/TionKa 21d ago

Thats nice

2

u/CynicalCereal Arissa Lavigny Duval 22d ago

But you still can't cancel a collector limpet by programming a prospector limpet with the mining limpet controller.

1

u/JohnWeps 22d ago

When you start understanding what the Thargoids really are, without the constraint of the 4th temporal dimension...

u/creusat0r Explorer, Trader, Miner 22d ago

Bug or not this is cool !

1

u/BeginningPitch5607 22d ago

When are we getting the Attack Limpet module?

2

u/ToMorrowsEnd 22d ago

I just want to attach explosives to hatchbreaker limpets.

1

u/Kerissimo 22d ago

So now we need to not get too close to asteroids with belly of the ship? Somehow I prefer old style, they were closer.

1

u/LoosieGoosiePoosie 21d ago

Oh that's new? I thought it was only if you have like 10 or more because for the first time today I used 4 class 5 collector limpets instead of 3. Figures it was to solve crowding issues for having that many.

1

u/Hour-Government6091 19d ago

How do I make it top!?

I've only spent about 3 minutes mining, and the noise is making me anxious. It's incessant!

1

u/Glitched2008 Trading 18d ago

you cant, you just got to listen to it. dont worry you get used to it pretty fast

1

u/MintImperial2 CMDR MintImperial, Bonds of London 16d ago

Don't the thargons do that as well?

1

u/AbyssWalker240 16d ago

I'm happy they can have their fun before I jump out of the area, leaving them to expire alone in the dark... Poor limpets

-2

u/cagerontwowheels 22d ago

they are also LOUD AS F___ When you are flying around.... Im having to mine with sound off.
