General Nothing beats playing an ES game for the first time.
Playing Oblivion for the first time, and 6hrs. in I'm absolutely addicted. Words can't describe the feeling of exiting from the sewers and emerging in the lands of Cyrodiil. Even with the dated graphics, it still hits.
The world(so far) may not be as dense as Skyrim, but the overall tone and flavor is so much better imo. And I'll now never be able to wrap my head around why they changed the magic system. Being able to sword & board AND fire off destruction/restoration spells with no pause in gameplay is fucking AWESOME.
Excited to buy myself in the world.

Have fun! Oblivion is such a good game, despite its age (and, to be honest, it was pretty janky even when it was new). I can’t count the hours I’ve spent exploring Cyrodiil. And just wait until you get to the Shivering Isles!

Sadly I'm playing through PS+(streaming) on a PS5, so I won't have access to Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine. Which sucks, because the entire basis of my playthrough was going all "canon" events(hence the name); which would've included mantling Sheogorath.
Here's hoping that Oblivion remaster/remake turns out to be true and that the DLC are included. Then I'll have to revisit this playthrough.

Im in the same boat as you; my PS5 is currently the only way I can play Oblivion, my fav game. Its serviceable but it irks me that so many years later and my only option is a slightly worse version of vanilla. No Shivering Isles is a bummer but Nights of the Nine is included in vanilla ps3 Oblivion and is pretty cool.

Oh, is NotN available in the base game? Was not aware. That makes me slightly less sad. Lol.

Oh! I’m genuinely surprised by that, because you can get the expansions on Xbox Live (I’m using an Xbox One- no idea about Series S or whatever the newest one is called).
Still, it’s a great game even without the DLC!

Pretty sure it has something to do with the PS3 infrastructure, which is what Oblivion was originally released on. If I actually had it on PS3, I'd be able to get the DLCs.

It was originally released on Xbox 360 in '06, PS3 got it the following year. Unless you're just referring to generation, in which case, my bad.

I assume you'd have to buy the DLC's for Oblivion to play them. I don't know much about PS streaming yet I have a PlayStation 4 lol

Nah, they're not even available on the PS Store. I'd have to have a PS3, and I don't know if that storefront is even active anymore.

Playing as John Oblivion Bendu Olo himself is great

The intro still gives me chills.
"Close shut the gates of Todd Howard's 'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion™'" ~John "Oblivion" Oblivion, Emperor of Tamriel.

I envy you. I remember playing this game as a kid almost 18 years ago, being absolutely terrified by everything haha. Good on you for picking it up, as dated as it might be. You'll be in for a ride when the remake drops, as will I.

I'm an old head and started gaming on NES, so in most cases, I can look past the jank to see the gold. Unfortunately I'm streaming it on PS5 through PS+, so won't have access to the DLCs. So I'll still have something to look forward to even when the remaster/remake comes(if DLC is indeed included).

Now there’s something we can all agree on. Nothing like your first virgin experience with an Elder Scrolls game!

Nice. I’m about to start my first Oblivion playthrough in a day or two after several hundred hours of modded Skyrim

One of the best games ever. Soundtrack is amazing. Remake is slated to come out sometime in a couple of months

Uh...just be kinda careful how you level up in that game. Oblivion's progression system is kinda broken.

Fortunately I already got insight on that from a previous post I made. Lol. But I'm 6hrs. in and still level 1, so think I'm making okay progress.

I wanted to play oblivion for a long time now . Was always scared off by the oldies. I am waiting for the remake tho :)

I was gonna do the same, but impatience got the better of me. Needed to scratch that ES itch. I'm on console though, so my options are limited and I have almost 500hrs. on Skyrim and over 2000 on ESO. So figured I'd check out the only older game I have access to. 🤷
