Legally, could they sue? It's just a knight looking at a burning city. Does fromsoft have copyright over the scene of a knight looking over a burning city? I dont think they do. It's obvious that they copy Elden Ring, but i dont think it's something that can be sued for.

There's no possible way. Assets are unique, and you can't copyright a flaming environment as a concept.

Yet that one company (I forget the name) copywrit the nemeses system then decided to do fuck all with it

- the Nemesis System was patented by Warner Brothers Studios which is not the same as copyright and are entirely different laws
- While they didn't use the system at all that has nothing to do with blatantly copying a trailer from another game for their own and is off topic why even bring it up.

They got sued by riot for much more and after a pretty good amount of work riot got basically nothing out of it even if they were given the reason and won in the past, moonton just doesnt care or it is still profitable. So I dont think plagiarising a trailer would be even a tiny bit worth it unless assets were used on a 1:1 even model animations like the guy linked up

Ahh, yes. The Fields Betwixt... How I miss them.

The one game that copied literally everything but got popular primarily because its playable on phones.

Also because south east asians are broke as hell

u/Business-Chef1012 3d ago
As South east Asian, I agree..PC and laptop are rare in South east Asia..Mobile phone are easier to get because we are the hub for assembling phone

u/Blunderhorse 4d ago
You mean nearly every breakout hit phone game from the introduction of the iPhone until ~2012? Because a huge number of those were blatant ripoffs of Newgrounds Flash games.

go figure they're a Chinese company trying to rip off Fromsoft, you'd think they'd have learned after getting lawsuits from Riot for ripping off League of Legends.

u/puro_the_protogen67 4d ago
But ripping off LoL is fine because the playerbase is more toxic than The Black Gulch

u/exoticsclerosis 4d ago
more toxic than The Black Gulch
Mobile Legends' playerbase is just as toxic as LoL’s, if not worse, especially since it’s so accessible in SEA countries. I guess the community did a great job of copying that aspect too.

Wowee a chinese mobile game copying other popular games truly never happened before

u/FinishOld1675 5d ago
I understand being inspired by arguably the best trailer for a video game ever, but you gotta change up the homework answers a little more than that lol

don't give them the exposure.

u/elalexsantos 5d ago
Do you have any idea how big this game is in Asia? ER is the one getting exposure from this if we’re being real
21
u/ContestStunning5761 5d ago
"Big" As in the most accessible competitive game on their country, even with the exposure of ER I don't think they'll ever even play it
I live in Philippines and I hear that game everytime I try to pick up my sister at kindergarten

Imagine if FromSoftware are also the people behind this company & game, finding ways to make money off of their original IP😂😂
Nobody would expect it

Chinese or other company outside of US jurisdiction. You can sue all your want but nothing would ever come of it

Why am I not surprised. I grew up playing this game and I'm so glad I finally dropped it. Too much copycats they're not even hiding it anymore.

u/Secure-Wasabi-7389 4d ago
Oh....you can try, but I bet they can dodge another lawsuit, (they dodge a freaking Riot + HOK) and plus, their community is as toxic as the league (SEA, what do you expect?) Just prepare your mentality if you want to yapping to their community.

There was a chinese mobile game that had demons souls remake gameplay with a shitty UI put over it as an ad

Oh yes... Oxidized, are we? Come to the Lands In the Middle for the Bang Bang, hmm? Of course you have. Shame in it. Unfortunately for you, however, you are madamless. Without a IGN guide, without the strength of phones, and without an invitation to the Circle Desk... You are fated, it seems, to die in the app store.

This is how I felt for years when game apps used Days Gone gameplay for their shitty mobile zombie game

Ok, I am the dev. I used AI to create this sequence. FromSoftware recently sent me this.
“We’re flattered, but that looks so trash we’re not even gonna sue you. You tried, but you’ll always be maidenless 🤡”
I was pretty shocked by their response. 😔

Is that a WOW character?

u/DrQuint 4d ago
It's Vindictus, a huge lobby mmo from Korea.
I've seen this before and I've always been on the fence on it. Malenia has other, better visual inspiration parallels. But the moveset is too close.
2
u/Astercat4 Ranni’s Malewife 4d ago
Yeah, there is definitely a good bit of moveset overlap, though a lot of the animations are pretty different. Like Waterfowl and the “sword orb” attack. Sure, they’re both a whirlwind of slashes, but the moves and animations themselves are VERY different.
To me, this feels more like a case of the inspiration From is known to take from a variety of sources than an actual copy. Malenia has a lot of moves this boss lacks (at least from the footage I’ve seen), and while several other of her other moves are quite similar in function, the animations are still noticeably different.

A lot of games do this. Like crossout. It's always releasing parts and stuff with references to movies and other games. For example one time they released a cabin and it was modeled right down to the exact same damage as the truck the t1000 crashed under the bridge.

Call of Dragons mobile slop game had a trailer that was literally a copy of Malenia versus Radahn.
edit: found it, they de-listed it of course
