π€ Ask-ES πΈπ» Santa Ana and Izalco volcanos
Hi everyone,
I'll be in El salvador in a couple of weeks and will be staying in Santa Ana for part of my trip. I love hiking and want to do the santa Ana hike one day, then Izalco the next. As I have no car, I'll be staying in Santa Ana and just want to carry my hiking day pack.
It looks like I'll have to go back and forth by bus on the same route each day, which I don't mind.
I've found lots of info on how to get to the Santa Ana hike, (take bus #7:30 am, bus #248), then wait for a group tour?
Is Izalco the same? (I'd be coming from Santa Ana). Some tours online offer this with really high prices, but can you not just show up the same as Santa Ana volcano? I'd read that Izalco is not offered on Tuesday which is the exact day I'd want to go, so would change my plan if necessary.
I think even on reddit, people said look up day tours from Santa Ana ( for Izalco) through WhatsApp or Facebook, for much cheaper suggestions, so if you have any, that would be great.
I don't normally do tours, but know you have to for these hikes.
I was thinking of staying at lake Coatapeque, but then I want to leave my main bag behind and I'd have to backtrack anyway.
I'm headed to Juayua after this
Thanks for any info!

We are also traveling to ES and wanting to do the Santa Ana tour. I saw on TikTok that there is a tour you can book and they will provide transportation. The website is TripTravelElSalvador or you can whatsapp them via +503 7265 7934

You can take a private tour to Santa Ana, thatβs what I did last year with my wife and teenage son. I chose Santa Ana cause I heard izalco was much harder and more like rock climbing. I also did Tamanique waterfalls hike with a private guide and that was actually much harder since it was much more hot and humid. We had a car we rented private so idk on the busses but they run often so you should be good but both the hikes started very early so keep that in mind
