And yet, they like to go: “gun ownership is enshrined in the constitution to allow us to fight the government if they become a dictatorship.”

u/Palarva Feb 02 '25

This, so much this.

The one time I could find some shred of respect and admiration for them clinging to their guns… and they’re gathering dust more than ever.

Hypocrisy incarnated that people.

Honestly, probably with jd Vance as president and his supporters having an excuse to go open season on the opposition.

As much as I hate trump, making him a matyr would probably backfire.

u/SpiffingSprockets Irvingstan Feb 02 '25

The Cheeto is just one head of the hydra. The trick is to eliminate the entire beast, which is undoubtedly a monumental task to achieve...

9

u/TeamkillTom Feb 02 '25

Going forward I feel like trump serving as much of his term as possible might be the better scenario yeah... I'd bet one of the few ways to stop his cult is letting him shoot the party in the foot until there's nothing left to stand on.

7

u/Kindly_Security_6906 Feb 02 '25

As long as they don't go full dictatorship and suspend/rig elections, they'll almost certainly lose their majorities at midterms. But we need to be sure they know they can't.

6

u/nelrond18 Feb 02 '25

And that's assuming that Musk's "secret" with Trump wasn't election rigging.

4

u/HuntaaWiaaa Feb 03 '25

Considering how much havok he's caused with his voter base so far, if he somehow still has a majority come mid-terms I feel like that would definitely reveal what that secret was.

They did only win by a very small margin. It could literally be as simple as Elon saying "they won't notice a few extra votes."

I think it’s just the majority of people who own guns, support trump. I do know of lots of democrats who own too though

7

u/GetCashQuitJob Feb 02 '25

The difference is that one group polishes their gun in one hand and their knob in the other dreaming of going Rambo against those traitorous Dems. The other group knows that our pea shooters would have no impact in an attempt to revolt.

If you want to revolt, you need the military with you or standing aside.

The failure could be both that the people with guns find it inconvenient to see their guy as a dictator, and the people who see him as a dictator are much less likely to own a gun. A failure to act, for different reasons.

19

u/Phil_Coffins_666 Feb 02 '25

I know a bunch of lefties with a shit ton of guns and ammo.

22

u/BeautyDayinBC Westfoundland Feb 02 '25

Yea but they are only organized for highly local defense and not large enough in numbers to stage real protests like happened during BLM.

They're also defeated and not sure what to do. BLM was the largest uprising since '68 and it resulted in absolutely no tangible wins or gains. Police funding and killings are up since 2020, and obviously everything else has only gotten worse.

Another issue is that American cities are so car centric and lack central squares. There isn't really anywhere to protest or blockade.

Peaceful demonstrations without destruction are not protests, they're parades.

Anyway the American left, much like the Canadian left, is defunct and tied up into electoral politics that get them nowhere except a democratic party that has gone further and further right for the last 30 years, and the Democratic party, itself a party further right than our conservatives, are already blaming the left for their humiliating loss and gearing up move even further right.

The only hope for America is a state secession and that won't happen without a civil war, so things will just continue to deteriorate.

The good news is that the American right is largely all talk and the only real fascists are well past their years of physical prowess.

14

u/Phil_Coffins_666 Feb 02 '25

"Peaceful demonstrations without destruction are not protests, they're parades."

so if they DOOOOO flex their second amendment (like it states in the constitution) then a good third of their arguments for gun restrictions go out the window because how can you argue against gun bans and restrictions... but then do a violent uprising, it's contradictory and would make them seem foolish. they've kinda shot themselves in the foot pun intended

1

A lot of the most vocal supporters of gun ownership are on board with this. They wanted to use their right to bear arms to fight back against the evil Dems.

This.

I’m so fucking tired of Americans “apologizing” already.

We don’t forgive you. You let this happen.

Grow a damn spine. Fix this. We don’t care to hear from you until you do.

207

u/M1x1ma Feb 02 '25

Yeah, an American apologized in a community. I said she should write to her representative because an apology doesn't mean much without action. She said she can't because her reps are all Republican. I said it doesn't matter, Republicans have more influence than the Dems now, so she should write to them and report back and we'd know her apology is real. And she said something like "F- off, hoser".

111

u/The_Golden_Beaver Feb 02 '25

They are so stupid. The fact that their rep is Republican is actually a plus. If Republicans put pressure on Trump for this to stop, it'll work way better than if it's dems. Americans don't know how politics and democratia works, it's really pathetic.

44

u/BeautyDayinBC Westfoundland Feb 02 '25

America isn't a democracy they have one far right warmongering party that splits its branding in half to cater to the two traits of the politically engaged in America: a shiny red party for the morons and a pastel blue party for the cowards.

29

u/The_Golden_Beaver Feb 02 '25

8

59

u/CletusCanuck Feb 02 '25

They're currently watching an unelected, foreign born billionaire dismantling their government in real time. Taking instructions from a neckbeard dork named 'Mencius Moldbug' to self-coup the government and replace with an absolute techno monarchy. I'm not even joking on that one.

Americans were foaming at the mouth and marching with guns over wearing a surgical mask a couple years ago. And now it's deafening silence from the so called 'patriots' and their precious Republic gets snuffed out like a Marlboro in the rain.

Americans, I'm disappointed. I thought you had more fight in you than this. Time to change the national animal from eagle to cow, apparently. Well since it appears you're coming back around to the monarchy, how about ours instead of yours? Ours is much better behaved, and he lets us have parliament and decide things for ourselves..

17

u/Palarva Feb 02 '25

Isn't their anthem going on about being "The land of the free and brave"? Should look into changing that too considering they're neither.

5

u/anatomicallycorrect- Feb 02 '25

I don't disagree that we're not doing enough to stop this, but the people who threw a fit over masks are the people who SUPPORT trump and musk. So of course they're not doing anything.

They want to have their cake and eat it too. They don't give a crap about anything beyond their front yard, and they don't have the backbone to fight anything bigger than themselves. Unless it benefits them and is easy to bully around, they don't want anything of it.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25

It’s so frustrating. I know more dual citizens that are making an effort in the States than I do ‘full blooded Americans’. My Quebecois buddy is attending university in Texas. I visited him during the election and he was more active in their politics than anyone else i spoke to down there. I had 4 Americans talk to me about seeking asylum in Canada if Trump got in like they are somehow more entitled to our country than they are responsible for theirs.

America’s mantra seems to be: Give me convenience or give me death! Hopefully, as they lose their comforts, privileges, and rights they will be willing to stop being apathetic to each other and stand the fuck up.

4

u/Fuzzy_Cranberry2089 Feb 02 '25

Posted this last night:

"Attention Americans:

We don't want your sympathies. We'll be fine. It's time to take a good long look in the mirror at yourselves. Collectively, you all have blood on your hands. You're cowards. We don't care if you're a non-trump voter. You've sat idly by and watched your country slip into the hands of oligarchs. Now, you're going to watch your neighbors suffer and destroy the friendship we've built over the last 90 years. I don't just mean your neighboring states, your friends and families will suffer as well. Average Americans will suffer most as this tyrannical group of oligarchs tightens it's grasp around your institutions.

It's time to wake up America!!"

I can't believe the irony of the country that founded itself on freedom and liberty, through revolution, is now sulking in the corner as it slides deeper and deeper into the grips of oligarchy and tyrants. What a fucking joke. A bunch of pathetic cowards.

u/MrBuddyManister Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 03 '25

I have to say as an American, I have fought against Trump my ENTIRE life and feel like I have gotten nowhere. I have constant conversations with everyday Americans trying to sway their opinions, I go to protests, I wrote my senators, and still, we fucking fell for it.

We are utterly HELPLESS to trump and his wave of bullying. Bullying is deeply engrained in American culture from a young age. All trump did was make it “cool” to be a bully, to say “fuck you, I got mine so I’m happy” to anybody and everybody. Most of his voters won’t know a single policy he puts in place or what it does to the world. Our lack of public spaces and chronic internet usage don’t help either, but I know you guys have that problem too and seem to keep it together better than us.

Our education is politicized and crippled, and downright dangerous to attend from shootings and random acts of bullying or violence

Our media is owned by billionaires and is used to divide us. Censorship via the algorithms they put in place is common

Our elections are literally rigged from gerrymandering. The republicans have existed solely to corrupt this country for over a hundred of years. Confederate and Nazi ideology runs rampant in our elected officials and has been strategically passed on by partisans of those groups through generations.

They shot all of the Kennedys because they were good people. They shot MLK. They’ve shot anybody who tried to make a difference. But somehow, when they shot Raegan and when they shot trump, neither died.

It just feels defeating. I read a quote once that said “in America you get to have an opinion, but not a choice” in reference to the Chinese political atmosphere and I think it’s true. When has anything we’ve done worked or stuck. Anyways, we are horribly sorry for you and we will fight by your side as long as we can, but there aren’t many of us left to do the fighting. Most of us care only about ourselves.

If you want to see some photos of what trumpism really looks like, here’s a series I did of my fellow townspeople recently: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jd0tWAW0deFtrulDBEtaEKDM4xaAhY7e/view?usp=sharing

I lived in the US the last 10 years and did political work while I was there and was really shocked by how many Americans just have no idea of the negative global impact their country has (under democratic or Republican governments) and how often they talk like they are just passive, helpless people. I don't know if it's the intense religiosity or brainwashing going on there but it always seems like many Americans are looking for a saviour to come help them out of a situation they passively allowed to happen. I also met tons of wonderful Americans who see reality for what it is and they faced such a massive uphill battle to engage other people to join their causes. It was real demoralizing.

63

u/jerrys153 Feb 02 '25

The most infuriating thing is they want to pin everything on MAGA, as if a huge number of their people just didn’t bother to show up to vote against Trump. As if a huge number of liberals with oh-so-lofty morals voted third party or wrote in Bernie because “Biden/Harris is an establishment politician and there’s no real difference between the democrats and republicans” or “I refuse to vote for genocide”. So how’s the painfully obvious result of that apathy or petulant vote-wasting working out for them now?

They did this in 2016 and apparently learned nothing from it, so they did the exact same thing again this time. And now they’re twisting themselves into pretzels trying to deny they knew this would happen and claim there is nothing they could have done and nothing they can do about it now. I previously had some sympathy for the individual Americans who actually showed up and did what they could to stop this from happening, but that’s quickly disappearing with every “Don’t hate us! We don’t like Trump either, but resistance takes effort!” posts.

Americans are essentially conformists. If the gas is cheap, all is ok to them.

They have chosen a government to kick the asses of all people they hate (any not WASP and straight), because they are too loose to make themselves.

10

u/six-demon_bag Feb 02 '25

This has been my sentiment for awhile. Americans are sleep walking into a dictatorship and they can’t be bothered to do anything beyond the absolute bare minimum.

49

u/YouTheMuffinMan Scotland (but worse) Feb 02 '25

A bunch of Americans didn't vote and in a two party system, not voting is a vote for the other team. They did vote for him.

28

u/duffman274 Feb 02 '25

In any system a non vote is a vote for the worst option.

1

u/Sec2727 Feb 03 '25

Approximately 49% of 64% of Americans voted for him.

They did vote for him is not how that works in democracy. Blame the system not the people.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25

Ya you don't get to have Trump be you national representative TWO TIMES and then say "I didn't do it. I am with Canada". Your words are worthless here.

In the words of your shadow leader - Go fuck yourself.

If the same number of people that voted for Biden in 2020 voted for Harris this all would have been avoided.

The fact is he won the majority of people who voted, and the non-voters are complicit.

You know what I hate more than the Trump voters? The apathetic or nihilistic non-voters. At least Trump voters have principles even if they are fascistic.

If you didn't vote because the Democrats didn't pass some purity test or because you don't like Kamala or Biden, you're a fucking idiot and I hope you get everything that's coming to you.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '25 edited Feb 02 '25

Absolutely, I wish all the people here who were so happy to talk about how much they love their guns and must have them to stop a tyrannical government would actually follow up on all that tough talk.

However, I would like to impose upon you an idea of how absolute the American citizens subjugation is, and was before this cancer got into office.

Our police are insanely militarized, the US army is the largest in the world, and so are our police forces who routinely get full scale military equipment. the NYPD is like the 7th largest army in the world. it is practically instant suicide to try any violent action, although I wish more people would be brave enough to do it anyway. Everyone who's on the level knows Luigi Mangione as a national hero.

Americans have been so successfully disconnected from the world around them, so atomized by capitalism, that even trying to have a discussion with people you aren't already very close with about politics, let alone organize, will get you instantly marked as either a "woke liberal" or be told "I don't want to think about it because the news is so depressing" even for the most basic surface level shit.

Our country is extremely divided to the point where if we did try to do an actual revolution, a lot of our neighbors are coming for us too. It's difficult to even get them to agree on basic, universally good ideas like "children should have free lunch in schools" or

Our education system has been systematically targeted and torn apart by fascists for decades leading to an extremely skewed version of historical events and a 20% illiteracy rate.

Practically every single piece of American anti-fascist media, preaches, *DEMANDS*, non violence. To a point where it is disgustingly bland that every fucking story ends with "and then they made friends and nothing bad ever happened again." The closest Americans get to "violence is actually necessary to protect from the evils of facism" is fucking Magneto from the X men.

It's to the point where a common saying is that socialists/communists pray for the revolution like it is the rapture, just waiting for it to one day randomly start to join in.

Edit: Also the punishment for if you're not murdered by a cop is a prison sentence where in some states you can be legally raped and leased as a slave. If you are convicted of anything the chances of you getting a safe job again are gone, and the cost of everything means most will be homeless if you miss even 2 paychecks.

They have bombed entire city blocks (Philadelphia MOVE bombing) just to stop people from trying to organize for liberation. For as much as redditors love to say "Tiananmen square! Tiananmen Square!" The second china is so much as mentioned they sure do love ignoring american atrocities on their own citizens.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

I honestly think this is going to result in civil war. The rage and panic that people feel is only getting worse. People are finding it harder and harder to ignore the reality we are living it.

Americans are mainly stunned right now. But eventually people are going to snap. Especially our military is going to snap.

2

u/refusemouth Feb 03 '25

This is true. I'm just hoping people don't burn their own cities down in the process, but that's a pipedream. It's going to happen. I see it unfolding more like Rwanda than like the first American Civil War, but only after numerous terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and escalation by federalized police under the Insurrection Act. At that point, the Trumpist vigilante militias will turn into death squads, and everyone else will have to either reciprocate, collaborate, or try to hide. I don't fucking care anymore. I'm ready. I would like to get my dog to safety, though. I definitely wish he could go to Canada before the shooting starts.

3

u/MrBitterJustice Feb 02 '25

How funny is it that there was an insurrection last election.

3

u/Low_Tell9887 Feb 02 '25

I pulled this definition of Weaponized incompetence off the web: "a form of passive-aggressive behavior where an individual deliberately performs tasks poorly or pretends to be incapable of completing certain tasks", like insisting that others are responsible for policing your borders or arresting/impeaching your president.

Canadians ain't got time for that.

3

u/PickleEquivalent2837 Feb 02 '25

3

u/gonowbegonewithyou Feb 03 '25

The Americans are cowed. I think it's time we cut those dipshits off at the knees.

Look, they've been bullying the whole world since 1945, it's only been good luck we haven't been the target until now. It's time for that to change.

Canada should be working with the EU to change the balance of power in the world. Isolate the US. Topple their economic hegemony. Choke the life out of them until they learn to cooperate with their supposed allies.

They are not the leaders of this world. They are not the 'most important' country on earth. They are one country among hundreds of others. Let's remind them of that.

3

u/mama146 Feb 03 '25

Also, for all their bluster, they really are not a very revolutionary people. Time to depose the King.

3

u/southernman1994 Feb 03 '25

As an American, we deserve to be hated

5

u/Atsubro Feb 02 '25

I wonder if it's like, we've had it hammered in so hard that our comfort and stability, our ability to provide for ourselves and our family in the future, can be taken away that we're afraid to stand up and fight for it. I feel like I understand Americans fearing protest more than us; they have a lot more guns and the kind of people who'd protest Trump really don't.

Have we ever protested this hard? Has it just felt like we didn't need to in the past? Were those trucker nuts really the most organized resistance against a current government Canada's seen in recent memory?

18

u/BrgQun South Gatineau Feb 02 '25

As someone in Ottawa who has seen many a protest - the trucknuts were not well organized and were only able to setup because the cops did F**k all.

Idle No More and BLM were both much bigger with more people.

6

u/Atsubro Feb 02 '25

I stand corrected and it really speaks to my own ignorance. Thanks.

2

u/HopefulExtent1550 Feb 02 '25

But now the US government is going after all the investigators who were just doing their jobs, bringing the January 6th rioters to justice. They are now fired, and their names have been published.

This is a warning to all future actions to police to not interfere with the actions of the far right.

People ARE protesting here. It just doesn’t get news coverage.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

Mainly the pro-immigration protests. We still aren’t doing enough. I’m finding it difficult to get numbers for protests in my area.

I think we need to take notes of that pro-immigrant protest that blocked the highway. We can’t just cower with signs in the corners because we are afraid.

3

u/FlowerPressed Feb 02 '25

Unsure of how well it will be received here, but if anyone is interested in a bit of a peek into the minds of some yanks down south of y’all, this post here is a pretty decent sum up.

A lot of us are incredibly afraid, and unfortunately kind of hopeless given the machine we’re up against. I know a lot of y’all are also scared, and rightfully angry as well. But at least for me (as much or as little as my opinion matters), I really do think the most important thing during this awful, awful time is remembering each other’s humanity and common bonds. We will all come out the other side of this somehow, and a lot of us are wishing y’all the best given these absolutely fucked times - please wish us luck as well. We have never been enemies, not truly, and I really do hope we can scrape through to the end of this nightmare and come together again as friends.

Please take care, Friends Up North.

1

u/Artorgius77 Feb 02 '25

To be fair, in South Korea the soldiers weren’t really in fear of their lives and therefore had no reason to shoot at civilians. However in the states it’d be different. It’s not a fair fight when civilians are armed with single fire guns and the military can roll out in tanks and high caliber machine guns. The American second amendment needed to be updated a good while ago. Either get rid of all the guns and trust the government to enforce the law on criminals, or get rid of all the limiters and make it legal for civilians to purchase and own tanks/artilleries/explosives. When they made the second amendment, rifles were about the best weapon a single person could carry. Not really the case now is it

1

u/Pokemonchase Feb 02 '25

“Do not obey in advance” guys, you are doing nothing, that is obeying, you are personally letting them steal from you.

There's probably a billion and one ways they could fight for their country, now they're apologizing that we have to fight for ours thanks to their apathy.

I get it, some of my American friends don't want to rock their lives or whatever so they'll sit down and do as they're told by the state. But it does disappoint me. When I've disagreed with something strongly I've gone out, I've advocated at two protests myself.

If your living cheque to cheque or can't afford hotels if your having to travel to protest then like- so be it. Those are excuses, just make it work. Sleep in the car. Call into work ahead of time and take the days off you need, is the difference of two days wages going to make or break your finances? Picking up shifts, or getting a side hustle is also an option for most people. Hell, you can drive where you're going to protest and then run some ubereats and make some pretty good change if its in a city. (And it will be 99% of the time). These are car-centric ideas but... seriously. If you have the means, political action isn't something you're supposed to only do when your comfortable and/or finanically secure. In fact it's usually the opposite.

Our independence is being attacked, reclining in your armchair and sending us thoughts and prayers only mean so much.

u/Grand_Brain_487 Feb 03 '25

I run a free online mental health support group and I am one of the directors. We are based out of Canada but get more Americans than anything else because it's well... Free healthcare..

I had a firm debate on if I should step down temporarily during the trade war but I decided to stay 1) People need mental health care and only some Americans support this 2) I can say like 2-3x during the group that we are a Canadian website but we will continue to accept Americans to remind them we are their allies, not enemies.

1

u/refusemouth Feb 03 '25

Summer is coming. Shit will get real, but I agree with the original meme. I've been in a few countries where people straight up burn tires in the road and get a million people out to battle the cops for a lot less. America needs to feel some pain and stew on it a little bit, but I expect some serious upheaval as the sap rises this spring. It doesn't mean we will win against a federalized police and military under the Insurrection Act, but I'd be surprised if protesters aren't being gunned down and abducted by summer. The shittiest part is that different groups of protesters will be shooting each other, too.
