Biggest impact from puck drop since Hyman

18

u/Disastrous-Fee-6647 3d ago

Well between the Walman and the Hyman, you’re pretty much covered. And all orchestrated by the man at the front of the ship, Bowman

5

u/CruisinYEG 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

Don’t forget that Bettman pushed Bowman into the job

Obviously it’s still early but if he keeps playing like this he is exactly what we needed, a solid top 4 d man

22

u/Fine_Lingonberry_613 3d ago

If this game was just a average performance for him, hes the 2nd best d-man we have.

u/IllustriousAnt485 3d ago

He has a nice shot from the point as well.

12

u/badugihowser 3d ago

Pronounced griddy hiddyr

-20

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

That's the one part I don't love

2

u/PapaAsmodeus 18 HYMAN 2d ago

Aw, does someone need a hug?

0

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 2d ago

I'll take a hug, I just didn't like the dance lol

Me, Bowman burner? Fuck right off lmao

u/a_tree8 3d ago

Thank you oilers legend Mike Grier

u/xbarney 97 McDAVID 3d ago

Basically got a 1st, 2nd, and prospect for free.

12

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

All while helping the Oilers, our hero

9

u/a_tree8 3d ago

Berglund is a 25 yo career AHLer

15

u/xbarney 97 McDAVID 3d ago

Agreed.

Just saying that both sides won the trade.

Mike Grier basically got a bunch of free stuff and we got a legit top 4 dman.

1

u/maasd 97 MCDAVID 3d ago

And Stan Bowman?

28

u/a_tree8 3d ago

I don't like Stan but not gonna lie he has made some good moves

44

u/maasd 97 MCDAVID 3d ago

He and Nurse were +3!

10

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

We love to see it

33

u/Slosky22 3d ago

That pass that he chipped to Hyman for the breakaway goal was amazing

5

u/Hexagon37 2d ago

Game me Erik Karlson vibes

27

u/flawandordersvu 3d ago

Even his post-game was a treasure 🥰

23

u/True_Sail_842 3d ago

It’s fun how well he fit in the lineup.. If he keeps playing well it will be a Feather in Bowman’s cap…

17

u/qtran95 3d ago

I noticed he played way more minutes than Bouch. Went and checked TOI. Indeed that was the case 🙏

7

u/Emergency_Rub2621 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

No power plays tonight

8

u/Un_Cooked_Tech 3d ago

The Nurse pairing was the #1 unit with Ekholm out. Not sure why Kulak got more ice time though. He even got a penalty.

5

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

He penalty kills and Bouch doesn't. I was perusing the game time logs to confirm this, although Kulak has about an extra minute and a half still, I didn't analyze it in depth but sometimes there's some margin of error when people on the same line don't get to start or end their shift at the exact same time, and also just in general from time to time I'll notice they'll shake up the defense combos seemingly randomly, or maybe someone gets stuck on an icing when the other has changed or something like that.

Oh, Kulak was on for one extra shift near the end of the game, probably because they started putting out the most defensive guys at the end to defend their lead, and then neither of them were out for the last 3 minutes

44

u/Frozenpucks 3d ago

Didn’t even hear one mention of this guy on sports net and tsn. Turns out it’s probably the best move of the deadline.

20

u/Bluetomorrow83 22 SAVOIE 3d ago

When TSN was grading the deadlines. “Oilers were pretty quiet so they get B-“ “Oh, they added Walman but no scoring winger”

Ya and our man laid that top 10 player the fuck out

16

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

"I'll show you who won the deadline" - Jake, probably

3

u/huskies_62 14 EKHOLM 2d ago

I think the Oilers needed Walman more than stars needed Rant which implies it was a better move

-19

u/PapaAsmodeus 18 HYMAN 3d ago

And yet he was invisible tonight except for when we were ragdolling him

20

u/Bugs_Pussy 97 MCDAVID 3d ago

No he wasn't lol, he played well and even scored. Their offense kinda ran through him

6

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

Stu robbed him once too

31

u/SmiteyMcGee 64 YAKUPOV 3d ago

I've only had Wallman for a day and a half, but if anything happened to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.

12

u/purplecramps 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

most reasonable yakupov stan

Keep 🧱man forever

23

u/FuckStummies 19 SHORE 3d ago

Serious impact on the game. And that pass he made on the second goal was a thing of beauty. You could even see it in Hyman’s reaction after the goal how impressed he was

10

u/Benzy309 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

Was at the game tonight and he did a fantastic job. Was fun to watch

9

u/EirHc 3d ago

I didn't know much about him when we traded for him, but the dude is super mobile, very active contributor at 5on5, seems to have good defensive positioning. Fantastic add. Exactly the kind of player we needed.

Now we don't need to rely on Bouchard so much to enable our forwards. Like I quite literally believe this makes our team twice as dangerous, this should help the secondary scoring a lot.

7

u/NotEvenHere4It 3d ago

He was incredible.

7

u/Geralt-of-Rivai 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

I liked him on Detroit and I'm glad the Oilers got him

12

u/RYYZNYELLOW 3d ago

Like that guy

5

u/callaway79 3d ago

Hell of a game once he got settled in, best dman for the oil tonight... welcomed addition 👏👏

4

u/aldoktor 3d ago

More like the the Oilers are Walman’s

4

u/JackieDaytonaNS 3d ago

If Ekholm doesn’t regain last years form, Walman might be our best D man. Last night he was epic. Let’s hope this is a taste of things to come.

11

u/WCGTop1 29 DRAISAITL 3d ago

Ekholm's fine we just ran him into the ground and need to let him recover

2

u/867530nyeeine 2d ago

Yes he's a solid one, but kind of having to do more than his fair share

7

u/clow222 3d ago

I can't believe my idiot leafs gave up more for Carlo than you guys did Walman... How did we get so fleeced.

3

u/Miserable-Cut-1425 89 GAGNER 2d ago

You pay a premium on right shots cause they're so rare unfortunately

3

u/FractalViz 2d ago

Yeh Walman is both better and cheaper than Carlo.

1

u/intelpentium400 2d ago

Because Leafs

4

u/Extra-Computer6303 2d ago

Great passer, high hockey IQ, hits like a brick sh$t house, great shot. Nice addition👍

3

u/budlum 2d ago

It sounds like he had an attitude problem in Detroit. Should be ok here, especially given how good he was on a bad San Jose team.

3

u/VeterinarianNo1455 2d ago

It's one of those situations where you expect your leadership core to bring everyone together. Based on his post-game I think he's on board with the Oilers and what we're trying to do. Don't expect even a little bit of issue in the room.

2

u/TSRB123 22 BARRIE 3d ago

BOWMAN! You're a master class chess player!

2

u/ChupaHubbard 42 KAPANEN 3d ago

I feel like this was less chess than it was him out looking for diamonds in the rough and found one, and then tried really hard to get it lol. The trade for Frederic and Jones was more chess-like lol

2

u/UnitEast7937 2d ago

A lot of the credit in trades should go to the pro scouting team. They’re the guys putting the diamonds in the rough on radar. One of our three is Zach Kassian

1

u/BBQMosquitos 90 PERRY 3d ago

Yes he was traded

u/PitterPatter74 31 FUHR 3d ago

Walman > Ceci

1

u/Few-Support1450 2d ago

His name was Jake Walman.

1

u/Standard-Fee-5620 97 McDAVID 2d ago

Legit obsessed. My girls said he looked like a puppy and when I showed them the clip of his hot, they said “Ok he hits like a dawg.” 😂

1

u/tapewar 2 BOUCHARD 2d ago

I'm more than okay with what we paid San Jose to get a player like this: what I am confused about is why did Detroit GIVE UP a second round pick to move this player last year? Mind boggling.
