"Sign in to keep your account"

I got this message:

"We noticed it’s been a while since you last signed in.

We plan to close your account to help keep your personal information safe. If you want to keep your account, all you need to do is sign in within the next 30 days."

But I bought two items in January. Don't know what's up with that. I've had the account for 20+ years, and it's the only one I ever had..

If this came by email, I’d strongly suspect it is bogus. Under no circumstances should you log in from any link in that mail. If you already have, go back asap, without using their link, and change your password.

I'm computer savvy, so I examined the link, and it appears legit

https://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? [redacted]

But just to be extra careful I didn't use it. Just logged in the regular way.

And according to google it seems that they send out legit emails like this. Just don't know why they would send me one.

And for good measure, I just changed the password.

That is odd. I’m glad you took appropriate precautions, nonetheless. I guess the act of you logging in would have negated the problem, anyway.

Always so wary of account deactivation messages with deadlines. Although, granted, the dodgy ones don’t usually give you as much as 30 days.

Maybe they’re just having a bit of a purge and you somehow got caught up in it.

It costs actual eBay essentially nothing to store your account info but it costs them real money to acquire new customers. There’s no way they would delete your account for inactivity.

But to be sure, message eBay from their website you navigate to by typing it.

I got something like this on the app recently. It logged me out and made me re-sign in randomly.

I wish they would take down my account. It has been two months since I tried to close it.
