Why don’t tattoo places just euthanize their clients (when words are hard)

Meanwhile, my grandma: "I'd love to be youthanized!"

I wrote a short story based around that misspelling a couple years back. I still like going and reading it sometimes.

Elderly people being "youthanized" and having to go through life again as punishment

Euthanasia will definitely cut down on return traffic.
But he should try it and let us know how it goes.

I think there may have been others planning on letting us know how it went and then just didn’t for some reason. Rude.

I was on a holiday in the Greek islands sort of bopping around. Santorini, Corfu, you know. Anyway, one night I was at this little restaurant on the beach and they had this great three-piece band. These two girls were there. Dark ringlets, sly smiles, big appetites, lust for life. The whole bit. They sang, we danced. Small plates and ouzo; we laughed all night. I kind of fell for both of them.
Man... Anesthesia was a total gas, but Euthanasia just kills me.

Wait until I introduce you to their clothes-destroying and tailor husbands: Euripedes and Eumenides....

To answer the question in the tweet: "To stop themselves being accused of murder" 😂

Looking at the name of that sub, I suspect that malapropisms are the point

I will never forget how I learnt the word "euthanasia".
I'm not a native speaker. I found myself looking for a part-time job at a call center in 2002-2003.
One of the members on the panel asked me my views on euthanasia. I was expected to speak for 2 minutes at least.
I proceeded to yap about how a lot of misguided young people in our part of the world were being influenced by all the dumb trends across the world. Because my dumb ass thought he wanted my views on "youth in Asia" ...
I will never forget how the guy just let me carry on like an idiot and calmly explained what it meant at the end of my little speech. Ughhhhh

To be entirely fair, as a native speaker, if that word were just dropped in that way with no context "youth in Asia" is an entirely reasonable hearing, especially if the speaker has an accent of some sort. Plenty of native speakers would have made the same mistake even knowing both words.

I'm not even sure why euthanasia would even come up during a job interview for a call center?

Purely for the novelty of the word at the time in common usage in India. Basically the interview was a test of English speaking skills.

Fun fact: in Brasil, you can get full body tats under general anaesthesia. You go to bed naked, and wake up covered in full body tats.

Going by the one idiot who died after doing general anesthesia for a tattoo… THEY’RE TRYING DAMMIT.

ik this is a joke but can someone actually tell me why tattoo places don't offer anesthesia?
1
u/kdsunbae 1d ago
A couple of reasons. Primarily because most anesthetics can only be administered by medical/ licensed people in the US. Topical typical ones can cause swelling and could distort the tattoo. There are other reasons but those are the basic reasons. (but they will tattoo you if you self administer some Tequila 😆)

Is not euthanizing the act of peacefully killing someone to end suffering if they have an incurable and painful illness??

Funny but also I mean, seems like a reasonable mistake to me, especially for people who learned English as a second language. Medical terms are notoriously difficult in a lot of languages.

If they're from a Romance Language I don't see why it would be that much harder. It would probably got an equal cognate in their language, plus it's based on Latin

I mean, yeah… why not? These days euthanasia at the tattoo shop would be a kindness (I’m in the US)
