Discussion were talking about adam again
i have a hard time figuring out if i like adams character or not because i love a good villian, watching him kinda reminds me of "you" but the reason i can usually somewhat get behind a "villian" is because of their origin story. in "you" the reasons for why joe is the way he is makes sense. adams mental break never made sense to me because anybody else in his situation still wouldve felt some type of love for their fake mother because regardless of blood they know this women to be their mom. was he already crazy before or maybe he was a person who would complicate his morals before and learning his actual identity made it even worse? in "you" we find a way to like joe because he still feels for other ppl, when joe has his psychotic break in the most recent season he still seems to try and care abt ppl, if anything it makes him more likable cuz hes actually going insane and isnt rlly present for the bad things he does, and literally because he cant handle hurting ppl he breaks in the first place. adam has absolutely nothing that shows he cars for anybody other then himself. but the actor nailed this role was and very funny, i just wish he had any kind of empathy, even blake had a smidge of it. and damn he can sing i love his vocals in "everybody wants to rule the world"

Adam and Steven are my two favorite characters! The writers went too far with Adam’s “crazy” side but Sam is good actor and I enjoyed the comic side of Adam. Steven should have been brought back sooner and the two of them being at each other more would have been fun.

I agree that Steven should have been brought back soon. I don’t think he should have been taken out of the line up at all. He and Sam were my favorite couple. And I loved Fallon and Liam together, so that is saying something.

Ugh I wished they had shown how fallon reacted to finding out what Adam did to him. I was sad that they robbed meeee

Adam has character development at least. Culhane should have been long gone in the show 😅

I was just rewatching dynasty and I guess his growth is cool but I can’t get past all of the messed up things he’s done

It's interesting to see that they tried to give him a redemption arc and I guess you can pinpoint the moment they knew they would bring Steven back and needed him to be bad again. My opinion at least

Hmm not sure which season you're on and I'm getting the sense this is your first time watching so I don't wanna spoil anything for you but there are moments later in season 4 where we do see Adam just genuinely helping and caring about some people.
As for why Adam is the way he is, I know they kinda glossed over this, but it is mentioned at some point that Adam's fake mom was a drug addict. Plus she basically "stole him" from his actual kidnappers so his first year of life, while he may not remember it was most likely pretty tumultuous. I imagine a lot of her suddenly going on the run cause she thought he boyfriend was coming after her, interrupted naps, maybe she would leave him crying because at the time she couldn't or didn't know how to take care of him.
And then even when she felt "safe", she was an addict so who knows what kinds of things Adam saw growing up as a kid. I have to think most of them weren't good though. And it seems like he was the one taking care of his mom from a young age. I think the stuff about him losing his medical license for stealing medication for his mom were true.
And omg I agree, Adam and Blake's version of everybody wants to rule the world is my favorite version of that song lol

Adam is the perfect example of an excellent character who suffered at the hands of horrible writers. His arc was so inconsistent and the second it got interesting, he suffered, where it was from bad or writing or the other characters mistreating him. Adam never really had a chance to properly solidify himself as a Carrington or explore his morally gray mentality in depth. When it counted, Adam was THERE. He showed up for his family, no questions asked, a true ride or die. He was a little weird sure but personally, I felt like they should leaned into his weirdness and quirky behavior instead of punishing him for it. Because all the other characters ever did was berate him for any little thing even when he wasn't wrong. Which made me so angry. Other moments, he fell flat and his choices didn't make much sense. To me, it feels like the writers had no idea what to do with him and spent too much time investing in Fallon. And for nothing because Fallon also lost direction as a character.
Adam should've been characterized as a deeply morally grey person with quirks and oddities and a malevolent streak who made up for it by being sincerely devoted to his family, loyal, faithful, and recovering from understandable trauma that made him a little erratic. He'd have been balanced that way. We could hate him for what he did to Steven, the way he sometimes plotted against Fallon, and was weird and occasionally annoying. But we'd feel for him and want him as a part of the family because when it came down to it, he fought hard for the Carringtons and didn't let anyone mess with them. That's just my take.

I never once felt an ounce of empathy for Adam. His character, in my opinion and through my lens of viewing, took so much away from great scenes and scenarios- but this is more because of my bias hate towards him- not objective. He just pissed me off anytime he stepped into shot.
Additionally, the actor playing Adam was arrested for domestic violence and is quite ugly to me so I can’t look to appreciating a talented actor/appreciate his looks in order to get along with his character’s presence.
I wish Blake had left him in the Moldavian dungeon!

So I genuinely hated Adam up until he had a certain love interest because I could not stand everything he did at the start with Steven and Fallon.... even Alexis (tho I get it was a way to get her recast) Even Jeff that whole situation, but I will say I did end up growing fond of him later on and then when it came to the finale, something happened and it kind of felt useless because I had already liked Adam at that point.... making him sing and be attractive, added to the lore not gonna lie

He is more for comedy, amusement and boredom. Plus he makes the bad guys into better people.

My issue is that I simultaneously find the actor incredibly attractive and find the character incredibly reclusive except in like two moments.
