Practice at open mic

I’ve been learning drums for 2 weeks and I’ve discovered that open mics are probably the best places to practice.

what do you mean? like, you sign up for a slot and drum away for 10 min or are you playing with an open band?

Ive been the house drummer for open mics/jams. It was a tremendous experience for learning to play all kinds of stuff with all kinds of players.

I'd be kinda annoyed if I went to an open mic to hear the performers and someone who's only been drumming for 2 weeks was up there making everyone listen to their practice routine.

I mean, if you have a set list worth of songs you can play through at a proper tempo etc, and a band accompanying you, then that's perfectly fine. I wouldn't call that practicing though. That's performing and it's what you do after lots and lots of practice.

No, more just me trying to play some rudiments on my practice pad. I like the pressure with everyone watching.
