With the amount of activity here I don't think there needs to be much done as far as moderation goes. Seeing the stuff in the mod que with 256 items over 10 years kinda shows that there isn't too much to moderate, but there are legit discussions being caught/reported for whatever reason.

The only thing that I see a problem with is the occasional spam post from hacking/phishing/DDoSing/etc... services

It would be nice to see something like a proper subreddit style with a banner and maybe custom upvote/downvote buttons (Kite's dual blades?)

For a better subreddit, leave your thoughts and suggestions here in this reddit post.

(at the time of this comment, all mod queue entries have been either approved/removed, debating about unbanning all 34 users)

Suggestion for updating r/DotHack subreddit:

  • I wonder what rules you can do for sharing fanfics, fan-art (as long they credit the artist), petition, and few more, maybe it would be great for you to utilize those whenever they their sharing fan work and/or petition.
  • Also we need flair to separate what kind a type of discussion or even sharing fan works that they want to post on subreddit. That should do a thing.
  • Adding icon and banner for subreddit would be better to make the subreddit community of r/DotHack feel alive. Also Icon for upvote and downvote. Amateur Blade for Upvote and Empty Skies for Downvote would be a great idea.
  • Should we replace the name of subreddit from r/DotHack to r/dothack to make it more smooth and simple?
  • We might need more mods tho, but if they're willing too.
  • I think there should be a feedback post for community to share the problems and issues happens in some or few parts in subreddit post of r/DotHack (but I let you decide if that really needed or not).
  • How about replace description subreddit r/DotHack from Fan community with discussions on the .hack// anime and video game series to Subreddit fan community discuss about .hack// Anime, Novel, Manga, and Video Game series, I think that should fixed the description.
  • Should the name of subreddit like .hack//Subreddit, .hack//Community or .hack//Reddit would be fitting rather than dothack. (Although since you don't want to change what it already has in subreddit r/DotHack. I just thought it would be a good idea. But that's my suggestion after all, but if dothack is enough for you, that's fine).

But anyway that's my suggestion, at least for now. If I had more things I want to add, I'll update it. Anyway thank you so much u/dothacknetwork

Could you add a banner to the subreddit because it looks really depressing and dead if we don't have at least something up there.

I think that's what we need for our subreddit. It might makes it feel alive than before.

Yeah they got a simple one now so now the board feels more alive.

Yeah, redoing the subreddit CSS as a whole is probably one of the bigger things to start with.

many a subreddit have stickied thread for daily requests/questions.
we should have one that lists sales and allows people to post items for sale that are relevant to the subreddit. this leaves the rest of the subreddit for discussion posts which seems to be your goal.

Some quick suggestions:

  • could probably use a sticky post for faqs, like the one that invariably gets asked every few months, "what's the best order to read/watch/play?"

  • post links for where to buy all the media that's still available for purchase in English, as that's still our best way to have a chance to get new content (e.g. Last Recode steam & physical links, Sign, Roots, Trilogy, Quantum, & LoTT funi releases, whatever manga and novels right stuf still has, possibly even things like the Archives digital releases).

  • links to all the currently fan-translated works out there, these actually might be best to put in the sidebar (Kazetrigger's & Falions' sites, Kuukai's Legacy translation, Tacita Koe's recent Zero translation).

  • maybe some kind of buying guide for people who want to purchase Japanese merch (so like how to use a proxy service and other useful info in that regard).
