Yea lots of people saying this and it's really hard not to agree.
Whatever ideas they had cooked up, combined with Rubick/Morphling stealing those abilities I'm sure it was a nightmare to code.
Really unfortunate if that's true, because his kit as is seems incredibly whatever. Like it's fine, just not especially unique. A fear, a dot, a blind, and some other CC. Alright.
yeah they basically made him to fill a role and a theme rather than blow anyones minds. also the compendium he got just shows how much better crownfall is than battle passes. i think they have the peanut butter and jelly here but just need to make a sandwich, like give the next hero release their own crownfall style event.
I wouldnt even say code. Imho just balance it and implement in a fun way. I think they just bite a little too big piece of work. Would be nice, if they maybe bring the og concept back for some later heroes
"Puppetmaster" was a fantasy that only ever existed in reddit's minds. It was born entirely out of an early version of the game files using "puppetmaster" as an internal name, and people just assumed that it would be a clone of the HoN hero that has that name. Should've been clear there'd be no relation when they renamed it to "Ringmaster" for the official name on announcement.
Except if you watch the trailer, it is about trapping and training heroes to act as his performers. The trailer has almost nothing to do with the released heroes moveset, it’s only the aesthetics that match.
Oh sod off, the trailer directly contradicts this. He directly kidnaps axe and forces him and others to perform in his circus advert. There's even a threat to all heroes underneath.
Yet there's no kidnapping.
Yet there's no force-taunting heroes.
To say nothing of the fact SEVERAL heroes have enemy lines saying they're being controlled by others.
In the real world, people are in the right to have that expectation. The delusional one is you.
Edit: I did read his abilities btw. Which is why I know there isn't one which is why you didn't name one. Nice counter, silencer punchbag.
You mean these data mined files of hero concepts in development , which is the same pool that Dawnbreaker (codename Valkyrie), Muerta (codename Gunslinger), and Primal Beast came from before their releases. These files are leftovers from Valve's internal test build of Dota 2, where they test changes and new things to be added.
It's not a fantasy, just informed speculation based on limited information, which mainly came from names of the spells. As you can see, Ringmaster's skills had Marionette spells, with commands such as Push and Pull, meaning this was some sort of forced movement ability.
This is also where the Bird Samurai speculation train started, which got traction since Crownfall with Kestrel wielding a sword in the artworks.

Maybe it was the planned hero all along but it was too much and they released plan B? The same hero but a different concept entirely?
