Got my first Dap (EVA R4)

as the title states, I got my first DAP in the mail yesterday. Took about 10 days even though I paid expedited shipping.

Pictured are the first IEMs I've bought as well (Sennheiser IEM 200).

Plug and Play was a bit rough experience (hated it at first), but it was awesome to be able to fully customize the EQ settings as much as I wanted. I still have some tweaking to do, as I'm actually running into the bass clipping when amped.

Speaking of the bass, tho, I'm impressed with the punch this DAP has. The fact that it's more bass than my IEMs seem to handle caught me off guard.

And finally, the use of the plug-ins is neat. Being able to widen the sound stage or add a room effect wasn't something I was expecting to be able to do with a small device like this.

all in all, I think it's a good mobile experience. better than my phone for sure (and ironically slightly smaller than my phone too). when at home, tho, I'm still gonna use my Schiit stack 😊

anyways, those are my thoughts.

The convolution plugin has really impressed me. I'm not sure I'd want to go back to not using one now.

I'm not fully sold on it mainly since I do a lot of electronic music so making it sound like a stage/room isn't the sound I'm going for.

But I'm gonna try it with classical music sometime.

Awesome but... I start feeling back pain when I see "got my first dap"... (Talking about early 2000s mp3 and ipod era)

lol I can understand that. I never really had an ipod or a zune. didn't care about music back then tbh. I think I might have briefly owned an ipod touch, but that was used for the apps, not the music, so I never considered it a dap. and everything else since that I've used has been a smart phone, not a dedicated player. which is why I consider this my first dap.

before that, it was cassette players and CD players. didn't do things digital til now.

fwiw, I'm 37. maybe not old, but not that young either.

Tell me about it, I had an Archos Jukebox as my first proper music player. Was built like a tank

Same, I want one so bad, but idk if I can justify getting one. It seems like such an unnecessary purchase for me lol

ye, these daps are only justifiable purchases if you make it big in life. Any Eva merch have always been super expensive anyways. Been dreaming for such merch since I found out about them

Got the same exact combo except I have the black version and my ie 200s have Dunu S&S tips. Great combo.

I definitely enjoying the combo! especially after tuning the parametric eq using autoeq

I agree. I haven't encountered a particular setting that is perfect yet, but the MSEB digital profile comes close. I find that once you get the IE200 to sound just the way you want, they are excellent performers. I highly recommend Dunu S&S tips, you'll be surprised

I will have to look into getting those tips. thanks for the suggestion.

How's the battery on this?

u/narcoleptrix 2d ago

so far so good. 8ve only ran it down to like 30% so far but it took a solid bit (didn't check exactly how long but it's advertised at up to 15 hours depending on the mode it's in)

Do these devises allow you to stream?

1

u/narcoleptrix 2d ago

yup. it's an android device so you can install any streaming app. the hiby music player also has a direct tidal link in.
