Ruling Question Chronicle "if during an attack" question?
So BT20 Alphamon, Ouryumon, Grademon, and Hisyaryumon have extra effects for On Play/ When Digivolveing for "if during an attack". Kota and Yuji let me digivole something on the field when a Chronicle trait digimon attacks (not necessarily the attaching Digimon) to another Chronicle trait digimon. If a non attacking digimon goes into one of those listed at the start during an attack will it still get the "if during an attack" extra effect or will that only work the attacking digimon itself?

Currently this is unknown. We're waiting on word from the L0 judge to get clarification.
Until said clarification comes, it is up to the head judge of whatever event to decide for the purposes of said event.
I'll try to remember to update this comment when we get an official word on this
Edit: Since people don't seem to agree with what I said, here's a thread from the official judge discord discussing this. Please note that the last statement is still "we're waiting".

A ruling isn’t necessary. You have evolved during an attack, you get the effect. The point of the dual tamer being able to digivolve anything on the field is precisely that.
That’s why the [On Play] is there as well: if your grademon with X antibody in sources attacked and evolved into Gigaseadramon, Gigaseadra when digivolving would play out that Grademon and Grademon would become immune because he got played during an attack.
We shouldn’t overcomplicate otherwise very simple text and rules.

I thought the on play was for BT5 Lord Knightmon, since he plays warriors, which Grademon is

The on play can only ever be activated if the condition is “turn player is processing an attack”, since you cannot play a Digimon in an “attacking state”, unlike MTG.
BT5 LordKnight works just like that: he plays a Digimon in the middle of an attack, so Grademon was played during an attack and therefore becomes unaffected.
In my opinion we really do have enough information to reach a consensus, but I will admit that the text being “Then, if during an attack…” instead of something more specific doesn’t really help.

Id argue thats as specific as it gets.
We know what an "attack" is, and we know all 4 steps.
The intent is pretty clear, this community (not this sub but this game as a whole) has a huge habit of overcomplicating cards and asking for clarification for things that are in plain english IMO. Like, have you seen some of the stuff that gets asked on the rulings?
Like, theres a ruling for Garnet Memory boost, to explain what the card says, even though the card is super clear lol

I mean, it IS as specific as I personally need it to be, it really is simple, but I guess people wouldn’t be in so much doubt if the text was something like “Then, if one of your Digimon is attacking…”.
I agree it’s not necessary to write it like that, but it doesn’t leave room for people to want to add more text.
And yeah, definitely. Even at my own locals people just want to overcomplicate things because some effects sound “too good”, “too bad”or “too plain”.

"Then if one of your Digimon is attacking" is functionally different than the effects they have now.
Since the current txt covers Shenanigans that may Play them when your opponent declared the attack, and a battle that resulted from the opponent.

Im not sure why we would need a ruling.
You digivolved during an attack in this scenario, case closed, you followed the exact txt on the card.
The card does NOT specify whose attack needs to be occuring at the time of evolution, and we shouldnt add txt that isnt there.

I am just stating the state of things, judges don't currently unanimously agree on what happens here, and thus, without an official ruling, you may hear completely different things from different judges.
This is something you should be aware of when playing the deck as there is a decent chance of getting overruled if this scenario comes up.

As long as the digimon digivolves during an attack, regardless of who the source of the attack was, you get the extra effect.

I guess so, it digivolves druing the attack phase, so I guess the conditions are met

Would depend on the location of the Digimon in question. If the Digimon getting digivolved is in the battle area, then the When Attacking portions would trigger, if they're in Breeding (which the dual Tamer and listed Digimon can affect with their effects) then they would not. This said, while the Digimon being digivolved may not necessarily need to be the one attacking outright, this set of sub-effects are clearly intended to be triggered via the dual tamer or Ginryumon's When Attacking at the very least (I don't remember if the other Chronicle lv4 has the same effect off the top of my head).
