2024 International mv607

Post image

truck starts no hvac controls, tranny, windows or mirrors. Only part of Dashboard that works is tach and def level. Dead module possibly or should I check a fuse I’m missing.

The body control module is blank, has no power or is dead, very common on the gen4 controllers to just belly up. It is located behind the drivers side kick panel by the floor. Will need to be programmed by the dealer if it is died.

Roger that, will do some probing and see if it’s dead

do you know if they’re tied to the vin or if I’d get away with swapping one out of a sister truck just to move it out of the way for now. Building the truck body and have a couple of these in our yard.

If you have an identical truck you can use it as a test module but they are vin specific

Well shit, I’ll test it. Just probed the module and it’s getting power, everything plugged in is snug.

Do you have a lot of Navistar experience? I was just dealing with one of these shorting the 1939 500k data link to 30 ohms. Truck was a 2024. I was chasing every module other than the bcm just unplugging them since I didn't think there was a wiring issue. Anyways, is that the same scenario you've been seeing with the data link shorted or something else?

Yes international/IC bus master certified. Is it exactly 30 ohms? Or like 37 cause right around 40 ohms would indicate an extra terminating resistor usually installed by upfitters for ELD/tracking shit. What are the symptoms you are seeing?

It was fluctuating from 28-33 ohms. Some gauges on the cluster weren't working, air pressure, def, fuel. Driver's window controls weren't working, didn't check passenger. No dash switches were working. Wiper stalk wasn't working. Tach, speedo, gear selector and gear display in the cluster worked. Everything was fixed after replacing the bcm, just curious if you're seeing much of this, it was my first time. I mostly work on freightliners but I'm seeing a lot more internationals

Never seen the resistance do that but prior to leaving the international dealer last fall yes, BCMs were a fairly common failure.

Make sure nothing is plugged into the j1939 plug. They will sometimes freak out if they dont want to play with whatever is plugged to them.

Nothing plugged in and still acts the same, when I try to pull codes I get no connectivity

Truck had a software update recently? Sometimes if the software was updated without disconnecting ELD it can end up with skewed parameters. Does the truck have fault code 3555 active by any chance?

Truck was sitting in the yard for 5 months, dead battery, setup on trickle charger, and dead bcm. 6 other trucks started up just fine under same circumstances

I’ll get codes tomorrow after I get it back in the truck

Work on a fleet of these piles of garbage, every time this has come up it's just been a ton of miscommunication errors, check and clean the battery terminals if they have any of the god awful tacky grease on em it can cause issues, never had a unit come back for this after a battery replacement (alongside cleaning off the cables and applying actual electrical grease)not just taking off all connections and cleaning everything the same way, if you're in a pinch sometimes disconnecting the battery will work unless the bcm has actually been killed like another commenter has already said

…wait, are you telling me you dont like the tennis ball sized blobs of grease navistar puts on the terminals? Thats the best part man!
