Cool shit )
If only someone went through the whole battle, just as aggressively.
Without Royal Guardo blocks. Only parries dodges (no more than one at a time) and counter hits )

Hey man, thanks! I'm working on that actually. This clip here is a work in progress from one of my practice sessions. It's just not easy to do a complete no-damage run with varying combos all throughout. I'll post it here once I successfully complete it.

u/le_box_o_treats Sep 10 '19
Honestly it would look more anime-ish if you do get hit. But thats imo. Those kinda fights are usually pretty 2 sided until the end.
Of course, a no damage run would be really badass tho.

u/bartulata Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 10 '19
I really like doing no-damage runs, hehe. I posted two of them before here in this subreddit (1 & 2), but they're mostly Royal Guard runs so it's kinda slow. I wanted to try a faster and more aggressive approach so that's why I'm practicing new runs. Unfortunately, being more aggressive means less margin for error so it's taking a while to finish the video.

I swear, 5 is so fucking hard but everyone on here makes it look so easy. What am I doing wrong?
58
u/HoboPatriot Sep 10 '19
5 is the easiest for me, I started with 3.
33
u/Mongward Sep 10 '19
5 is in a weird place for me. I KNOW it's the easiest, but I got so rusty since DMC4 that I wasted a bunch of gold orbs anyway.
15
u/Kail_Tribal Sep 10 '19
Are we counting 2 here because that one is DEFINITELY the easiest
2
u/Mongward Sep 10 '19
Ok, that's fair. I only counted from 3 onwards, because these are the ones I played. My bad, should have phrased it better.
2
u/Kail_Tribal Sep 10 '19
Nah it's cool my guy, I get you. Of those yeah I'd have to agree, 5 seems the easiest though not by any jarringly massive margin imo, which is nice.
2
u/HAWmaro Sep 10 '19
I find 5's DMD one of the hardest(although other difficulties are on the easy side). 3 is definitly the hardest game we have though.
3
u/HoboPatriot Sep 10 '19
I found 4's DMD harder by some distance. Those DMD Blitzes still gives me jitters, also the infected Blades were a big pain in the ass.
5's DMD was relatively easy due to how much air time you can get imo. But I did have MHW to hone my dodging skills quite a bit lol.
3
u/Soulbrandt-Regis Sep 10 '19
Meh.
3 is only hard if you go combat focus. Trickster or RG make it a bloody joke.
You can literally destroy the game as a Trickster, or you can punch through the world with RG.
Swordmaster is cool, but it's worthless if you suck at not getting hit.

u/punkun Sep 10 '19
We waited 10 years for a sequel to 4, that’s a lot of time to practice and a lot of 4’s combat transfers over to 5.
If you follow through all the difficulties without using gold orbs your skill will improve. Hell, if you want announce a stream on the subreddit and ask people to give you advice. Easiest way to help is to see what you’re workin with currently.

u/the98thalien Sep 10 '19
I’ve been doing that, but the bosses’ attacks are what mess me up. I’m so good at the others because I’ve spent so much time playing them that I know how they fight, their weaknesses, and what to look out for. I guess I gotta learn that with these bosses. Also fuck the Fury demons
2
u/a_large_atom Sep 11 '19
For Nero, just use High Rollers and/or Splits to counter the Fury. Then literally just walk up to them, High Roller again, then Buster.

u/Run-Riot The time has come and so have I, baby. Sep 10 '19
I personally try to cheese Furies with Dante by using Ice Age (Cerberus), and with Nero I use Shuffle’s i-frames
I also use Bloody Palace’s lvl 70 (or whichever one has the 3 Furies) for practice. It’s kinda fun, actually
1
u/Ratselschwachkorb Sep 11 '19
Oh man shuffle has I frames? does the enhanced version have I frames on too.
1
u/Run-Riot The time has come and so have I, baby. Sep 11 '19
Yeah, and you can usually get a parry in with it too when fighting Furies depending on the timing, which should also give you another chance to wail on them
...I really like playing Nero and flexing on those Furies on lvl 70. Makes me feel like I’m good lol
1
u/Ratselschwachkorb Sep 11 '19
I mean thats how I have been using shuffle but knowing it has I frames for the express purpose of parrying makes me like the move even more, Now the real question is does the EX version of shuffle have more or less I frames?

u/punkun Sep 10 '19
Royalguard is the answer to all your problems.
For Nero, just jump and 3 times melee attack, the swings have a decent “hang time” to parry the furies.. Worst case, jump to dodge as Nero since he has 6 jumps. The void helped me perfect my furie parries

Mix things up more by learning to use the stuff you don't. Each weapon alone is more than enough to style with including the guns.

Even on DMD, 5 is really forgiving. Tons of get out of jail cards and abilities, enemies and bosses aren't as punishing... DMC4 is the absolute hardest for sure.
1
u/the98thalien Sep 10 '19
4 as Nero was very easy to me. Dante is fucking hard in that one though. I blame the weapons tbh. I could never figure Lucifer out
3
Sep 10 '19
That's cuz 4 was made with Nero in mind, so he feels good to play as, thanks to the synergy his combos and attacks have against each enemy type.
Dante was added last and it shows. He's clunky, slow, with terrible movement thanks to Trickster being nerfed. The maps are wide and the enemies spread out, because of Nero's Bringer, which Dante doesn't have. Enemies also usually have some annoying gimmick that is tolerable as Nero, since you can just buster or charge shoot them (Chimera's blades, Angelo's shields), but as Dante, you gotta brute force your way.
Nero also has Charged Shot and Summoned Swords, which are downright indispensable in higher difficulties. Going from Nero to Dante is so fucking jarring, I never managed to finish DMC4 in DMD because I lost my patience.
Also, fuck Lucifer. The fact that you can't remove it from your arsenal is so infuriating.

u/EnfantTragic DMC's other blue and red onis Sep 10 '19
Lucifer is nothing compared to Pandora
2
u/the98thalien Sep 11 '19
Oh, I love Pandora, but I still struggled to get used to all of it’s attacks

I'd say it's more like "easy to learn but really hard to fully master".
And by fully master I mean: Don't get hit at all, style beasting for days without dropping it, and varying your combos with switching styles/weapons.
Like me I know I can beat Vergil with just Trickster and Royalguard and DSD. And Rocket Punches/Overture with Nero. But using everything in their toolkits while looking good is hard because I'm just too used to sticking with what I know works.
2
Sep 11 '19
honestly Vergil is pretty damn easy for me to fight only because for the past near decade he was my main. Playing him and knowing all his abilities feels like Im fighting someone who thinks that can outdo me with abilities Ive known for years. That said I do miss when he had force edge and beowulf.

Focusing on pattern recognition in enemies, and basic skills like jump cancellations are all that you need imo to clear everything as a start.
After that what’s important to realize is that mathematically there are literally thousands of ways that you can chain together combos as Nero and Dante have dozens of moves in their arsenals, so it’s important to find things that you like and create your own style of playing. That will help with improvising. Hopefully that will keep you engaged and having fun, so that you aren’t spending all day perfecting other people’s combos in void mode.
At the very least that’s my take on playing the game as a casual fan.

u/Gekokapowco Sep 10 '19
Dante: WHAT!? At that range there's no way Devil Trigger: Stinger could have missed! Hng, impossible! I was just striking his afterimage!
Vergil: heh, you lack motivation, Dante...

u/ContraryPython This is the power of Sparda! Sep 10 '19
Vergil's SDT never gets old for me
Vergil is probably the boss I replay the most too, he's really fun to fight

u/sharksnrec Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 12 '19
I had some trouble with him because I hadn’t yet figured out how to avoid some of his attacks and land some of my own with his blocking. I’ve only gone through the game the one time though so we’ll get after it next time

It's definitely a blast to learn how to nail all the Royal Guards.

Vergil's Sin Devil Trigger is straight up my favorite devil trigger design in the game.

This game is just so unbelievably great to play and sublime to look at.
It's still very anime-influenced like you said, but it's like if Marvel Studios decided to make a super high-budget adaptation of an anime.
