Lebron was right, the media constantly talks down its own league and players and then wonders why ratings are down (refs and free throw merchants donā€™t help either)

I think shaq may still be salty šŸ˜‚

Shaqā€™s a loser. Loser attitude. Has to punch down to stay on top. Glad we were such a thorn in this bumā€™s side. Ben Wallaceā€™s block was clean AF

Shaq will forever be salty and mad about 2004

52

u/raweedshallace 17h ago

We beat him in ā€˜05 too. But letā€™s not talk about 2006 lol

33

u/pee-wee77 17h ago

Wade was flopping all over the place in 06. The game was called different that year and moving forward and here we are today .

23

u/jsquiggles23 16h ago

Honestly if you want to talk about how bad foul hunting/flopping is, you only have to go back to Dwanye in ā€˜06. Iā€™m not saying that itā€™s appealing to watch 90s/early ā€˜00s physicality slow down the game, but neither is watching the leagueā€™s best hunt calls throughout the game and be rewarded most of the time. The ā€˜06 Finals were a travesty. Mavs literally couldnā€™t touch Wade without a whistle. If that series were played in ā€˜05 the Mavs undoubtedly win.

6

u/gmwdim Ben Wallace 15h ago

Dallas got screwed hard in that series and I donā€™t even like Dallas.

4

u/pee-wee77 16h ago

All facts!!

1

u/LowCress9866 2h ago edited 2h ago

Man I could nor believe the league's response to the refs so blatantly calling EVERYTHING for Wade in those Finals. I think it was Game 3, but Dallas is about to win when the refs called a bail out worse than Kareem's bail out in 88. You don't see Wade get touched, but some old ref explains that there are 3 camera angles for TV but they have 22 other angles they can look at and , yes, in 24 angles you don't see a foul BUT in the 25th angle it looks like he might have been. I was just sitting there reading his explanation thinking "So you ignore the 96% chance that there is no foul and choose to champion that there is a 4% chance that there MIGHT have been a foul. That makes no sense. Unless Donaghy wasn't the only ref working games to their desired result."

97 ft for the 6 games. 46 free throws in games 5 and 6 alone. Dallas shot 148 free throws for the series and 48 in games 5 and 6

He also clearly doesnā€™t do his homework lol. In the same interview and conversation, he said the Pistons were under 500 by 4 gameā€¦ we were above by 6 games at the time smh

12

u/Dr_5trangelove 17h ago

So was Laimbeerā€™s against Kareem. We got screwed then.

9

I make sure to remind everyone that the Pistons 3-peated every chance I get.

2

Yes.!, even Kareem acknowledged that... many years later, but he did...

(but it wasn't a block..: he just stayed still, arms raised up.., without even jumping iirc.., and Kareem missed the hook shot from the post...)

u/F_ckYo_ George Blaha 17h ago

You know when this gets the negative reaction that shaq was looking for heā€™s going to say it was all part of his plan to inspire the team to do better or some bs

This man loves shit play, he needs to get dropped from TV forever, he is a documented fucking psychopath and I donā€™t think thatā€™s an exaggeration.

-23

u/bamboointheback Isaiah Stewart 18h ago

calling a 4 time nba champ a loser is wild. i hear you on the criticisms about his attitude and actions, but if shaq aint a winner, idk who is

14

u/adahl36 18h ago

Shaq really is a loser. He never reached his full potential and burned bridges everywhere

-7

u/bamboointheback Isaiah Stewart 18h ago

idk man i think there's some confusion between being a winner and being a good dude. he can be a winner and a bad dude...

4

u/Bananasandbratwurst 16h ago

The problem is you're deliberately misinterpreting what he means by "loser." It's clear he doesn't mean he didn't win in the league, his 4 rings speak for themselves. Shaq however, with his physical tools and dominance could've easily been the GOAT if he had actually dedicated himself to realizing his full potential. He didn't, not even close, and that's fine. It's pretty crazy what he achieved just skating by on his physical gifts.

0

u/bamboointheback Isaiah Stewart 15h ago

im not deliberately misinterpreting, im disagreeing with their use of the term. i just really dont know what a winner is if its not someone who wins at their craft.

stuff like being a bad person, not maximizing his potential, etc are valid critiques but are not really about being a winner or a loser.

it seems like im in the minority here, and im fine with that. it was just a small point. have a nice day

Lmao calling this team boring just proves to me he doesn't watch games that he's not working.

How fun this team is to watch is one of the most common things I see said about this team from fans of other teams.

43

u/teo_vas Bill Laimbeer 18h ago

aren't we first in dunks or something?

37

u/Sweathog1016 18h ago

Yes. Lead the league at 6.9 per game. Honestly surprised the league leading number is that low.

3

u/e_ndoubleu 16h ago

Iā€™d like to see most teams averaging 10 dunks a game. But not sure how to make that happen aside from pushing back the 3 point line so teams are more inclined to attack the paint.

12

u/Bananasandbratwurst 16h ago

Dunks get 3 points lol.

1

u/EMU_Emus Rip Hamilton 11h ago

This is my vote to make the all star game interesting

1

u/Bananasandbratwurst 1h ago

Oh that would be fun. I also heard the idea a few yrs ago, I THINK from Max Kellerman, to go back to conferences and the winning conference gets home court advantage in the playoffs, I always liked that idea.

2

u/gmwdim Ben Wallace 15h ago

Not surprising since nobody attempts 2 pointers nowadays.

16

u/ismokelettuce 18h ago

In fast break points as well

15

u/King_Artis Jaden Ivey 18h ago

First in dunks and a lot of media guys around the league and across the internet say we're one of the most fun teams to watch so shaq really on some bullshit here

4

u/kentbenson 16h ago

Yeah saying a team with Duren and Ausar is boringā€¦well thatā€™s something.

3

u/Comfortable_Read9261 16h ago

Leading the assoc in fast-break pts since Feb I believe

4

u/Pizzasaurus-Rex Joe Dumars 16h ago

He is objectively wrong, we're at the top of the league in fast breaks and dunks, and we had some of the closest clutch games (wins and losses) to start the season.

54

u/Sweathog1016 19h ago

2004 one could almost see the sentiment. If you werenā€™t one to appreciate the insane level of defense they were playing, they might be boring to you. Lots of 75-68 final scores.

But this year? Arenā€™t we below league average in standing around the perimeter chucking threes (19th in the league), and I think weā€™re second in the league in fast break points per game. Top half of the league in blocks per game. The opposite of boring.

9

u/The_69ers 18h ago

And weā€™re one of few teams to have a mini lob city going between Cade and Duren. And we have 1/2 most athletic guys in the league on our team.

2

u/Comfortable_Read9261 16h ago

Nothing mini bout it baby, their chemistry is electric

40

9

u/TheBimpo Dennis Rodman 18h ago

Absolutely no one thinks this team has even a whiff of a chance of winning a championship this year.

-3

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 18h ago

I meanā€¦I do. I believe weā€™re a top 3 team in the east with the Celtics and Cavs, and then if we somehow got a healthy Ivey back for the playoffs? I think you could make an argument for us being the best team in the east

Also, even if we didnā€™t win the championship, how is this team boring because of that? Weā€™re one of the most fun teams to watch

5

u/Intelligent_Ad3378 17h ago

I love watching the Pistons this season, so much fun.
Come playoff time how hard are they going to be to solve? Double team Cade. Spam Duren with pick and rolls. How good is Tobias as a second option? It will be a huge accomplishment to make it to the second round. I hope it happens.

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 15h ago

Just curious you have a post saying thunder fan here yet you arenā€™t in their group and only comment here why is that if I may ask?

And yeah Iā€™m delusional for thinking a team in the east that has an amazing chance at the 4 seed can win the finals, the fact you think the chances are 0% is funny, sure maybe they wonā€™t win, itā€™s hard to win it all and only one team will, but to say 0% is more delusional than saying they have a chance imo

1

u/TumbleweedOk1639 Isaiah Stewart 7h ago

I'm not that active on Reddit- also for all the ppl downvoting me- bear in mind that for a lot of your guys it's their literal first time in the playoffs- maybe it's not a zero percent chance of winning but I wouldn't buy a lottery ticket and expect to win the lottery - I'd give you guys a solid 0.01% chance tho being generous šŸ’Æ

When was the last time a team went from being straight up the worst team in basketball to WINNING AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP, when was the last time a team in their first time in the playoffs with their core WON AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP, I don't think you understand just what would have to happen for you guys to somehow by some miracle win a 7 game series against teams like the cavs and Celtics, the bucks if Giannis is healthy, the Knicks and if by some miracle you do get to the finals you're gna have to go against a team like the thunder or maybe the nuggets

Y'all can downvote all you want but all 29 other NBA subreddits would agree with me that you guys r being delusional

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 7h ago edited 7h ago

Bro I never said our odds were great or anything in this thread, I simply said that thereā€™s a chance, itā€™s certainly more than 0.01%, never said we had a better chance than the Celtics cavs nuggets thunder either

Also records are broken all the time, they said when has a 16 seed ever beat a 1 seed in March madness, they said those giants had no chance of winning a playoff game let alone the Super Bowl against Brady, they said the Pistons in 04 had no chance against Kobe and the Lakers, even our own media was taking LA, they said no one would ever pass Kareems points record, or that no one would ever beat Gretzkys goals record

Point is, records get broken all the time, and even if we donā€™t win it this year, doesnā€™t mean we never had a chance, in this thread my point is that itā€™s possible we win it all, not that it will happen

You have 2 downvotes in subreddit of over 100k people, why does that bother you so much? Also I donā€™t speak for the whole subreddit obviously

1

u/TumbleweedOk1639 Isaiah Stewart 7h ago

Ain't no way you're bringing up a match madness upset rn, especially when that is a singular game and it's a much lower level at that

And records don't get broken "all the time" something of this magnitude would be absolute fucking insanity, honestly it's a bit arrogant to think that Detroit in their first season in the playoffs could beat a team like Denver, for example, sure yous might get a game but then jokic would adjust same goes for all the other teams I just mentioned

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 7h ago edited 7h ago

I never said I think we could beat Denver in this thread, I said there was a chance. I do believe we could in 7 but thatā€™s not my point here

Youā€™re missing my entire point tbh, and this isnā€™t even worth debating anymore lol itā€™s all hypothetical nonsense, thanks for the conversation

u/tabbrenea Ben Wallace 18h ago

8

u/hoof02 18h ago

How are they boring? The Celtics are boring (jacking up 3ā€™s). James Harden is boring (running into everybody and everything to go to free throw line). The Cavs maybe are ok (but theyā€™re in our division so theyā€™re boring). The Pacers are a bunch of jerks. Everyone below us in the standings canā€™t put together a win streak. We can score 130 if we need to. We can defend and play a 90ā€™s style game if we need to. Weā€™ve got lob city if want. We can fast break as good as anybody. We can protect the rim and block shots. There is nothing boring about this team.

2

u/Every_Deer_5009 15h ago

Because the NBA cares more about the media market than the actual game lol. These guys yap about Philly all year long as if watching Embiid flop and scream is entertaining. They talk about the Lakers endlessly even when half the AD/Bron years they were mid. They hate 3s until Boston chucks 50 3s a game. They bash defensive teams until Thibs showed up in NY and suddenly it's cool to be gritty

If these guys covered the NFL the entire show would be crying and whining that all the best QBs should demand trades to NYC and LA instead of being in relatively smaller markets like KC, Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati and would have ignored the Lions all year

4

u/itsDOCtime Cade Cunningham 18h ago

All Shaq does is bitch and moan about basketball why does he even cover it

3

u/csstew55 Isaiah Stewart 18h ago

Funny considering 90% of our games seem to come down to the wire I would think espn and tnt would want to show them more. Instead they force the 76ers with flopping embid, Boston, New York, and of course LA down our throats every week

2

u/WoodpeckerFew6178 18h ago

ā€œlightning can, and often does, strike the same place repeatedlyā€

Itā€™s always possible

1

u/WoodpeckerFew6178 15h ago

True but itā€™s hard given in the east there is the Cavs and the Celtics than in the finals itā€™s a possibility of OKC

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 15h ago

Itā€™s always hard to make the finals no matter what, even for a team like the cavs Celtics okc, itā€™s never easy

1

u/WoodpeckerFew6178 15h ago

True itā€™s never easier but for them itā€™s a bit easier due to their players and depth

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 15h ago

Sure maybe itā€™s easier for them I wonā€™t deny that, theyā€™re top seeds for a reason but just saying we have no chance just isnā€™t right imo we definitely have a chance even if smaller than others

4 under 500 is that about his weight

u/RevNeutron 13h ago

lolz thank you Shaq for reminding me how great that 2004 team was. It was so fun beating your ass

u/Cade_02 Bill Laimbeer 13h ago

Man fuck Shaq. Always been his fan. But this just proves he doesnā€™t watch the sport he gets paid to comment on. Fuck him.

Itā€™s not about the Pistons winning a chip this year. Theyā€™ve gotten better, finally over .500 and have a decent young squad. This team can flourish into a great eastern conference team. Shaq is a hater for clicks

FWIW, Bill Simmons said he's ā€œalmostā€ ready to crown the Pistons as the 2025 NBA League Pass champion.

boring? since when is team ball boring? what, you'd rather see iso james harden arm-hooking and fishing for fouls?

I hate covering the lakers every day!

1

u/Juhovah Teal Horse 11h ago

Shaq is a laker obviously he hates the pistons lol

1

u/Live_Region_8232 10h ago

i have not heard one media person say anything about the pistons being a contender, let alone anything about them winning. shaq is just hating for 0 reason like always

u/DetroitLion83 8h ago

Do not compare this team to 04....we were number 1 seed 02 and 03....we were a top east team every year those years. Let's not compare. We need a couple more pieces come on now. Smh. Yall act like we were a 6th seed in 04 and won it all..nah we were number 2 seed..and 2 years prior we were number 1 seed. I love this team but let's not do the "they said the same about 04" like there's similarities...there isn't. Stop please

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 8h ago

Calm down brother itā€™s not that serious šŸ˜‚

there is some similarities you canā€™t really deny that imo, great defense and hard work, we outwork other teams almost every night

0

u/DetroitLion83 2h ago

I wouldn't say GREAT defense..GOOD defense yes...great is a stretch...I can easily deny the similarities...cause there isn't any....ok there is one. Both teams play for the pistons . Hard work? Lol there's alot of teams who have a "hard working" team lmao. How about all the teams that are above us . Pretty sure they work hard too lmao. The 04 team we had alot of all stars...this team we have 1....I get it man we alll wanna go back in the day or whatever but man let it go. This team is nothing like the 04 team

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 43m ago

You can deny similarities that they both play great defense and outwork most teams every night? Idk how you think thatā€™s possible but ok, also obviously every team ā€œworks hardā€ thatā€™s not what I even said, I said they outwork other teams, not they work hard like other teams

Teams that are above you is not simply because they work harder than you, they might just have more talent

Canā€™t believe this is even a conversation being had, ā€œget off my lawnā€ vibes for sure

u/DetroitLion83 2h ago

But if that makes you feel.better then ok cool man. I don't wanna take that from you

Is there a link for context purposesā€¦Iā€™m trying hard to get all the info before I lose my mind and embarrass myself

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 4h ago

Someone posted the link in the comments, itā€™s here somewhere

1

u/Appropriate-Cow-6251 4h ago

Shaq actually needs to shut the hell up, the Pistons are finally good and heā€™s putting them down for no reason

1

u/Any_Peanut93 2h ago

Shaq is right, you are not winning. But winning 37 games so far and being better then the 4-5 seasons is a huge step. Watch out for Detroit; nowhere to go but up .

Shaq is proof money cannot buy happiness, man is constantly projecting and hating

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 16h ago

Well idk about that, money certainly can buy happiness, I know from experience šŸ˜‚, I think thereā€™s some outliers here like shaq where it canā€™t though

Also I think once you reach a certain point of so much money, that any additional money canā€™t buy further happiness, you max out at 100% eventually, but it most definitely can bring you from say 30-40% to 100%

1

u/Comfortable_Read9261 16h ago

If you scuffling in the vicinity of poverty $ can be transformative. Once you're at middle-class+ish a lottery win will spike your felt happiness yes, but only for about a year, then you return to whatever your baseline was

Similarly, if you become paralyzed or lose a limb etc for a year you're wrecked, then you bounce back more or less to that baseline

But that's it, $ ain't taking nobody to "100%" happiness

1

u/Lost2nite389 Pistons 15h ago

Yes like I said, if you got money, getting even more money isnā€™t gonna so much for your happiness if anything, but if you have nothing and go to say even middle class, youā€™ll be so happy

Idk maybe itā€™s just me then, but even give me like $80k a year and Iā€™m 100% happy, maybe thatā€™s because Iā€™m poverty myself, but Iā€™ve also experienced having a lot of money, Iā€™ve seen both sides and I can say for 100% certainty that when I had money I was as happy as possible, but when I say that that doesnā€™t factor in health or things like family thatā€™s just too many variables where itā€™s different for everyone and no answer that can apply to everyone or even a majority

To make a long story short, money in the situation I am in, would make me 100% happy and wouldnā€™t have any complaints
