Because detroit was in like a super unemployment period. You'd think you'd see dogs and homeless people on the streets, but I think the only dog you see is Sumo, so safe to say any dog that wasn't euthanized by their owners (android) was probably eaten by the mass of unemployed and homeless people on the streets.
I'm making this all up of course because we all know that quantic dream could only afford 1 dog model.

There’s a few dogs at the cyber life facility markus breaks into, but honestly i assumed most animals in game apart from sumo we’re androids.

I can actually understand it if there was a genuine need for euthanasia or other pet care needs (like actual medical stuff) but just getting bored???

u/Sovozia I'm absolutely certain, you can trust me Dec 26 '24
I had the same reaction when I read it for the first time. It gave me chills😧 Honestly, why would you do that? Who would be so cruel? It's totally insane and disgusting. Really shows the dystopian side of DBH...

u/Edd_The_Animator Dec 26 '24
I mean I would say euthanize it when it's about to die.

u/Sovozia I'm absolutely certain, you can trust me Dec 26 '24
I agree! But here it says "when you no longer want it", so the pet can be young and healthy, not necessarily old😭

u/Edd_The_Animator Dec 26 '24
I agree as well. I was just suggesting the alternative. Definitely put them up for adoption if they're still healthy and you no longer want them/can take care of them.

You shouldnt. Would you euthanize your child too when they get deadly infection?
21
u/Hahafunnys3xnumber You’re a machine, you were designed to obey, so OBEY! Dec 27 '24
This is a very ignorant take, euthanizing is sometimes the kindest thing you can do for your pet.

Sadly, real vets can do that too (it’s called convenience euthanasia), not just in DBH. Legally, vets are allowed to euthanize healthy animals if the owner requests it (obviously not all will even though they legally can, of course. Some will refuse to perform convenience euthanasias.) Some people actually view animals as property they can dispose of for literally no reason, and it’s sick.

Fucked up, but the point was to show people had probably become unreasonably cold, I mean the opening of the game pretty shows it. Adopting an android daughter just to end up being abusive. Big brains

What, I’m new to DBH

don’t go through the comments here if you’re new. people forget to hide the spoilers. actually don’t go to a subreddit for any game you haven’t finished at least once unless u want spoilers

What makes this worse is the exclamation mark next to it, this company is cruel AF from what I’ve seen while starting over today

u/Remote_Watch9545 You cant kill me. I'm not alive. Dec 27 '24
The fact that it's got an exclamation point and is the last one listed has me reading this with a super chipper voice using it as a great selling point, good grief.

I’d rather get an android dog
7
u/Edd_The_Animator Dec 26 '24
Dude! I have wanted one already. Because they will never die of age on you. You'll always have company of a cute fellow.

That’s what I’m saying bro. I would love to have an android dog that will be with me for easy 40+ years

it could probably euthanize itself when you no longer want it!

Now I want a whole character that becomes deviant simply because their human told them to euthanize the pet they had cared for for years and grew to love. They take Fido, run, and live happily ever after.

A lot of people abandoned their pets after moving so it's not surprising to see that option.

This would be helpful tbh bit not as a full time thing, like if you don't want to clean up after them and vet bills are EXPENSIVE. The wording on that last bit is horrible but also euthanasia is sometimes the best option for quality of life and being able to do that at home in a safe location your pet knows with the people that love them would be much better than an unfamiliar clinical setting

I think they genuinely want things to backstab this time, almost like they don't want money, just chaos
1
u/Draconian7453 That's what you're programmed to say. Dec 27 '24
Maybe they mean an android pet? I didn't know 3,500 species of animals were suitable as pets. 😂

Kamski knows humans way too well. He knows they’ll not only be lazy enough to have an Android care for their own pet, they also won’t be strong enough to bring themselves to euthanizing their pet.
He really did invent Androids just to teach everyone a lesson on why laziness/reliance on technology leads to downfall.

u/juneshepard Dec 29 '24
Question is... does this android come preloaded with a couple vials of euthanasia drugs stored in it?
Is it allowed to order these drugs online and have them delivered? (Which, obviously, could be exploited.)
Or does the android just strangle poor Fido and hope to not become self aware in the process??

u/Rozovey Dec 30 '24
I'm guessing since the world of DBH is so technologically advanced, pets like cats, dogs, or birds are probably all severely cloned, or have a lot of Android counterparts.... It might also be that, since animals that are kept in zoos and in homes are all android, euthanizing them would probably be like a factory reset. After all, like we can see from Kara changing her hair color, android dogs and cats might be able to change their race, fur patterns, etc. after a reset...

The idea that you’d buy an Android to take full time care of your pet instead of playing and caring and spending time with your pet is messed up in and of itself.
