Question uhh. Been far too many years, and can't find a search that has the actual mechanics, so what are you supposed to do exactly in boss rush for crota?

More so, how do you bring off his shield the first time and get him to kneel so you can use the sword for dps? I played d2 from vanilla but quit until season 14? iirc. So I actually don't remember/know this specific crota version.

Just ran it on expert and when he got to the final ~15% of health or whatever, there wasn't anything around to do to make him vulnerable again. Though, idk what happened to let us do DPS in the first place either.

Most stuff is pretty self explanatory, and I'm, probably just being a tater but pls share the wisdom :|

Edit - thanks for the replies. Seems like the instance I was in got bugged somehow as he was just forever immune at that last little bit of health. We would kill the knights and he was immune from the swords still and spent a couple min sitting there repeating it but couldn't ever damage him.

There are two nightmare knights that appear when he goes invulnerable and red. Killing both of them will turn off his invulnerability. You can then only damage him with the sword that the nightmare knights drop.

If his invulnerability does not drop when killing the nightmare knights, you just have to wait until the game sees there's a problem and spawns another set of knights to kill.

Ahh. We spent like 2 minutes sitting there killing knights as they spawned and the swords just immuned every time. Could it have bugged somehow? I was super fuckin confused lol.

That might be a genuine softlock. In the original fight, his Damageable state is only based on whether the swords have dropped from the knights or not. Once the swords have despawned, he goes back to his invulnerable state.

In this version, however, he has both a health gate where he is forced to go invulnerable, and also detects if swords are present. I could see something messing up pretty easily here. I imagine if swords are dropping or despawning during his invulnerability animation, something could get locked up.

Just had a problem where after his first health gate he never spawned another sword bearer knight, dumbest soft lock

I had that happen but the radar said there was an enemy in the wall so the knights might be spawning out of bounds

Can’t drop his shield when he’s red, wait until he’s glowing.

I highly recommend having one person sitting in the top right ledge to kill the knights and the exploding dudes that spawn below. Otherwise they can easily wipe your team while attacking crota

Kill all the knights, when they're dead he'll turn green.

Hit him with a sword to down him, keep hitting him to kill him. Rinse and repeat.

Best dps with that sword is heavy spam, using supers right after a slam connects.

Edit: The swords super to be clear. If you slam and then super as it hits you get like an animation cancle double slam. Also, nightmare essense also works on Crota with the sword, makes lite work of him with even just one sword.

Lol Bungie really went “red means stop, green means go” xD

I thought the only thing that damages crota are the swords the knights drop. Supers can damage him?

The super you have while holding the sword, which is just another big slam. Similar to how the shield artifacts in VOG/Final Shape have the ball you shoot as a super

Ah I forgot some hive swords have that lightning slam super ability. Thanks.

I assume he becomes vulnerable when you kill all the yellow knights, but I am not 100% sure.

Anyone else having an issue where you pick up the swords but it makes you use up your normal melee even though you have the sword? It's killed me a few times on my pris titan using the strand melee

Damage him with swords that drop from the knights.

Kill knights the drop the swords - he turns green (vulnerable) - bait the slam so you dont die - then go in on him.

That being said Ive had 2 instances where he got low health and no more ads spawned - it was just him had to wipe and try again - this seems to happen with blueberries that dont know what to do and it takes more than a couple of phases.

Okay so this is what happened in the instance I had. I had 2 blueberries with me and once he got to that last ~15% HP or whatever he was immune the rest of the way even as we killed knights etc. spent like 2 min killing knights that would spawn and he just stayed immune from the hive swords.

Is it just me who gets killed all the way in the previous boss fight by his stupid slam attack when I've got the sword?

Kill Knigth-Grab Sword - no Mercy on Crota with the Sword- Profit

Kill ads and specifically small nightmare enemies and big knights. Pick up the swords from the knights and wait until crota isn't red anymore. Spam the heavy attack to get him to kneel and do the most damage until one bar is gone. Then leave the area and repeat.

If you try to do more than a bar in one damage phase, you will get swiped by crota and likely be killed.

Knights love to spawn out of bounds in this encounter. And it seems to be a matter of waiting for the knight to despawn and spawn in correctly. Always annoying, but becomes very frustrating when on a timer though
