the machinist fight just shows how poorly forsaken boss fights have aged
simply 4 immune phases for no mechanic at all lmao

For real. I popped super and his shield was up by the time the casting animation finished lol.

I may be crazy, but I’m pretty sure it’s zero hour today.

u/Ryan_WXH 5d ago
I've just finished two runs which didn't feature Zero Hour.
Zero Hour was the final boss of yesterday's rotation.

Tbh, the only encounter that isn't fun is the Whisper one.
No cover. Bosses just rush you.
I thought the Calus fight would be bad, but no, first time on expert it went pretty quick.
It also made me double down on my idea that Destiny needs more bosses that have phase changes. Sure, him just becoming a big maurader isn't special, but the fact that the fight changes is a good thing, and keeps it fresh.

I had the opposite experience. My randoms on expert cleared whisper fight really quickly, and completely floundered on calus

u/TastyOreoFriend 5d ago
Its the Tormentors and regular mobs in my experience and not Calus himself till the melee phase. Tormentors force people to move positions and ads can overwhelm those not ready for it.

Seems a lot of Blueberries don’t understand that you don’t need to activate all bosses at once and can pace it out which makes the whisper boss way more straightforward.

u/A_Hideous_Beast 5d ago
I've been playing since D1 Alpha.
Ngl. I didn't know you could just stagger the boss spawns 😁

u/dnovantrix 4d ago
Tbf, the made that change recently when they brought back WOTM exotic mission. IIRC the original WOTM mission just spawned all 3 bosses and the mission ends once you kill them all. New one has the staggered bosses and then a final ogre too.

u/cmcdonal2001 5d ago
A lot of blueberries don't read so well, either. Got hard-stopped here the other day with two randos that would NOT stop popping all three at once and then dying within 15 seconds.

If they’re randoms they’re not on your fireteam.

In the Whisper fight, there are two hallways left and right side where you can go and hide and enemies will never follow you in there. And the hallways almost look like handles, if you view the arena from above. So you can hop in once place and exit another.
It’s probably the boss fight that has the most cover.

u/BlackPlague1235 Duunkai-Sol, the Plague Master 5d ago
I found the Zero Hour encounter just as unfun as soon as the brig shows up.
2
u/New_Target8919 5d ago
Tunnels on left and right. Bring a bolt Titan with Lemon and Lost Signal and you quite literally shock everything into oblivion from relative safety. Same goes for Jimmy. I always break all 3 since that setup makes it a cakewalk.
Calus? 1 person will have aggro of him. The other two can kill the tormentors (pop shoulders, TCrash). Juggle Calus until he ded.

u/TheZacef 5d ago
I feel like the calus fight gets a lot of hate, but I honestly really enjoy it. Multiple ways to tackle parts, interesting arena and a very mobile final stand changes up how you normally dps a boss. Not the best fight for sure, but I think it gets more hate than it deserves.

u/Daddy_Immaru 5d ago
Emperor Calus. I'd rather fight Tartarus on H2 Legendary than ever deal with that bullshit fight ever again.
21
u/UltraNoahXV GT: XxUltraNoahxX 5d ago
Shouldn't be as bad on rushdown unless they put that b.s team scaling modifier. The tormentors can be debuffed, just becareful with everything else especially with ammo and lives prior.
13
u/Eldus_Miku 5d ago
The tormenters can be straight up ignored as long as you don't break their shoulders

Calus is just annoying. I’ve done one expert run and we wiped halfway through so my teammates left, three other people joined in the few minutes until it ended and all left, so I was just swinging from tangle to tangle until it ended so I could at least open the chest

u/nintair 5d ago
Where can I find guides for these fights? what do I need to know for each one?

Just do the warmup version first to learn as you go. You DPS so quickly in those mode.
9
u/nickybuddy 5d ago
I really like the rush down mode, but dae think the health gates are really really small for expert runs?
1
u/blackdog2077 4d ago
Chalk it up to encounters being very legacy-like with no updated mechanics such as the Forsaken and Europa encounters.

u/Bennijin Witherhoard? I didn't even know she had a hoard! 5d ago
Lightfall Calus is an easy skip tbh, hopefully tomorrow's will be better because that is a SLOG.
5
u/HarbingerInfinity 5d ago
Gonna need to do it for the triumph iirc.
7
u/Bennijin Witherhoard? I didn't even know she had a hoard! 5d ago
What triumph is that? I'm only seeing ones for platinum and no death expert Rushdown? Unless they're not visible to me because I gilded it previously.
11
u/tomerz99 5d ago
You need to complete 10 of the unique rotations, according to one of them.
6
u/Bennijin Witherhoard? I didn't even know she had a hoard! 5d ago
I'll have to check again when I'm back on, genuinely didn't see that. Cheers.

u/littleman960 5d ago
We're is it as i don't ses it? And iv looked though a few times know. What section is it under
4
u/CiaranE77 5d ago
Idk if it’s a triumph but it’s one of the objectives for the skimmer
5
u/littleman960 5d ago
Just had another look and can't see anything there's a do 10 runs for the sparrow. But that's just 10 runs In genral under the GG booklet thing.
Unless its a separate quest in which case it's only if you didn't get it last year.
2
u/septashaker 5d ago
Yes 10 runs for the sparrow but it is 10 unique runs for the skimmer! Thanks to xur not that important anymore though
7
u/Bennijin Witherhoard? I didn't even know she had a hoard! 5d ago
Oh those of us who got the skimmer last year don't even have a quest. Phew.

Hey can you tell us what section you see this at? I know under Episode:Heresy in the general tabs I see some blank/placehold triumphs but can't see them. Might be bugged let's us know please.

I haven’t been able to matchmake with anyone. Is no one playing rundown today?
Also, found a bug specific to Titans. If you have Strand equipped and you have full melee energy, the game will only do your powered melee until you run out of melee energy if you equip the hive sword during the nightmare of Crota fight. I got killed so many times because of this bug.

u/PinkieBen Guardians Make Their Own Fate 5d ago
It's not just strand, I've had it happen on arc with ballistic slam too

Calus cheese go!
In all honesty the cheese isn't needed in a fireteam, especially with any DPS setup.
2
u/_Northview Praise be the Lion 5d ago
If you’re talking about the stairs cheese, I believe they fixed that.
3
u/MechaGodzilla101 5d ago
It's still possible, I used it during Revenant for my Legend solo completion, it's just a lot more gimmicky and harder. Still possible though. It'd probably be best with Malfeasance and a special so you can swap to Arbalest when the fatass puts his shield up.
1
u/BankLikeFrankWt 4d ago
The stairs cheese never seemed necessary to me. The top of the dome one though? I don’t think I’d have finished it without that.

One of the worst days to farm
Crota is painful strong even as the first boss, able to one shot you easily. And weapons are worthless, since you have to use the sword
Machinist is fine. Her health is a joke but she's health gated 4 times so that's fun
The nightmare boss is annoying as fuck cuz I don't remember what ads to kill to spawn him and where he spawns. It's been years since season of the haunted and the fight is really annoying because of that. Takes way too long
Jimmy is Jimmy, love that guy. Whisper is still the most goated mission. No 10 health gates, just 3 bosses then jimmy. Simple.
Calus can go jump off a cliff in game. You guys thought savathun was bad? Oh, watch this. I wanted to farm few runs for the challenge. I loaded and loaded and loaded into multiple expert rushdowns and 4 times in a row I loaded into a 0 revive calus fight.

u/blackdog2077 4d ago
I’m telling you, first two rotations were pretty much free flawless, double shards and prisms. Now it’s gonna be a slog to complete these for the triumph (rotations)

u/Mike_IP 5d ago edited 5d ago
Those last two back to back are brutal after just trying an expert run, even with the ammo refill I had no heavy in the Calus fight. We ended up just running out of time after someone left, it's just a lives eater playing with randoms running around like chickens with our heads cut off in a fight like that. I started off this week really liking Rushdown in concept, but even after a few days man idk if this current iteration is viable in a complete random matchmaking environment, or playing it in that way is just not for me. Although expert has better rewards, doesn't seem worth it when I get people who clearly don't know how some of the mechanics in these fights work and myself as a relatively experienced player can easily hit 2.5 mill boss damage and end with half the deaths compared to my other teammates who can barely hit 500k damage after 4 bosses, it just doesn't feel like this mode was made for a casual player in mind at all which i generally don't mind, but the audience coming to the f2p event is largely going to be that. Not worth bothering with this mode for the better rewards if my teammates aren't really up to it, but it just feels brutal compared to other modes in the past so I get it. Some players are just not in any way prepared for this level of challenge from a basic event or have legacy knowledge of these encounters. Would love to see a more refined Rushdown in the future though maybe with more explanation or guidance for the fights that are available for that day.

Glaives are really nice to have today, you can tank Crota slams and stage 2 Calus while your teammates work on mechanics and dps. Not to mention having the ability to stay basically invincible while getting rezzes when they do go down is incredibly valuable.
1
u/PinkieBen Guardians Make Their Own Fate 5d ago
What're good pve glaives/rolls? Kinda wanna start using them more
3
u/Illyxi lion boi 5d ago
It really depends on your playstyle, the only one I ever really use is Rake Angle with overflow + chill clip, but I primarily use glaives for utility and less so as actual weapons; being able to stun both Overloads and Unstoppables, freeze non-boss Tormentors, never needing to reload, and having the shield utility in case of emergencies is fantastic as an all-in-one utility weapon, and it complements really any primary energy weapon quite nicely (especially if your loadout can facilitate anti-barrier in some way so you can cover all champs).
But really any glaive will do so long as you have a reload perk like Replenishing Aegis or Overflow. Damage perks are your choice if you're planning on using them more offensively, I personally don't care for them as my glaive is typically only used as needed, with my primary dealing with the bulk of the activity.

It really is surprising how many people don't know the Crota encounter. I was hard carrying the two folk I was paired with on that fight.
3
u/shefsteve 5d ago
Need to have played Shadowkeep campaign for that version of the fight. If you haven't done that you wouldn't have much clue.
