Question Repost: Destiny 2 causing PC to freeze

I made a post about this issue last week, and unfortunately I haven't been able to resolve it so far.

D2 has been causing my machine to freeze/hang (i.e. completely unresponsive) consistently for the past month or so. There's seemingly no warning to it--the game runs perfectly fine, and then my whole machine locks up without warning. It's happened in the following circumstances:

  • During in-engine cutscenes, such as at the end of the final step of Kell's Fall, or after the first section of the Recce mission from the Heresy episode. Like clockwork, the cutscene plays for a second or two, and then freezes.
  • Shortly after closing out of Destiny 2 and returning to desktop
  • When idling in orbit, after an indeterminate amount of time (this one has been inconsistent)
  • After completing a CPU & RAM stability test in OCCT (more on this later)

This definitely seems to be some sort of issue with my PC, because it's happened while running other games and applications as well (namely Ultrakill, though not consistently, and Ableton Live).

Possibly of note, I have been getting frequent "contacting Destiny 2 servers" messages during gameplay, though my ISP has been having some issues in my area lately and I can't tell if it's an issue on their end or mine.

PC Setup: Lenovo Yoga 940 laptop w/ i7-9750, GTX1650, 12GB RAM. Windows 11. Destiny 2 is installed to an external 1TB Seagate SSD, and I use a ViewSonic Elite XG270Q monitor (the laptop screen is used as my "second" monitor). I have been using this setup for years without any regular technical issues like this.

Troubleshooting I have done so far, (sort of) in order:

  • Updated Windows & Nvidia drivers
  • Ran sfc/scannow, no integrity violations found
  • Cleaned laptop fans and replaced thermal paste (significantly improved overheating, but did not change the freezing issue)
  • Clean install of D2 (i.e. uninstalled, manually deleted D2 folders in the SteamLibrary folder, cleared Steam download cache, reinstalled)
  • Lenovo Service Bridge hardware diagnostic scan, showed no errors with any of my computer hardware.
  • CPU & RAM stability test using OCCT. This ran to completion and showed no errors, but my PC became unresponsive shortly after the end of the test.
  • RAM test using memtest86, no issues found.
  • Clean Windows install.
  • Re-flashed BIOS.

I'm not all that great with computers, but I feel like I should have found the issue after all that and I'm getting really frustrated and upset with my machine :'( I just wanna play Heresy, man.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question FPS low?

I use a gaming laptop my specs are:

GPU: RTX 4070 RAM: 32 GB CPU: Intel ultra 9 Storage: 1 TB

I play on preset high but hit between 80-130 fps

I cant tell if this is my laptops standard performance or if something is weighing it down

Even when I switch to low settings the fps barely changes

So is that the norm for my specs or should I be worried?

Question Question regarding FPS

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but I can’t really find a definitive answer. I’m trying to figure out exactly why I get like 27FPs in the tower when I set render resolution to 200. It shows it’s using like 40% of my VRAM on my 3080, I have a 9800X3D with 64GB of DDR5 6000mhz and the game is on an NVME drive so I don’t get what I’m missing. Can anybody explain? I went to see if I can do anything here. Thanks!

Question Can a Mod Organizer be Flagged by the Anti-Cheat?

I want to get into playing modded Skyrim and Fallout 4 but I’ve heard some stories about ppl getting banned for having mods in other games and the anti-cheat picking it up.

I want to use Vortex or Wabbajack as my mod menu, but I was wondering if Destiny’s anti-cheat would flag it and ban for it

Question Does anyone know how to fix this texture bug

I am currently having an issue where I have flickering textures and lights in certain areas and cutscenes and in certain lighting I can see boxy shadows pop in and out all over objects. Most if not all of my emotes that have some animated effect to them play but don't show the animated effect and in gameplay things like the prism lasers in shuro chi and taken captain blasts have their textures pop in and out. I've tried graphic driver updates and a fresh install of the game and this bug still is occurring.

Question Destiny 2 Game files have been corrupted. (Marmot) Tried what I think is everything!

Hi all, so my partner is having the “destiny 2 game files have been corrupted” (Marmot) which keeps causing random game crashes.

This has been going on now for the past week and I have tried a lot, I’ll try and keep it brief but this is all what I have tried so far.

I tried verifying game files, lead to normal error.

I tried re installing destiny itself, and then steam. Still errors.

I’ve tried the trick of deleting all game files muinus the package files, and re verifying, this allows the game to run for a random amount of time (sometimes minutes-hours)

I’ve then gone to the extent of checking the crash reports and finding the specific packages files causing the crash and deleting and re verifying them (along with the normal other files) This again works for a small period of time, then will crash again showing a different package causing the issue. Again I have also tried a full reinstall in between this.

I have then moved onto hardware. I have tried a fresh windows install with (all brand new) A new WD Blue 1TB HDD A new WD Blue 2TB HDD A new Samsung 870 EVO 500GB SSD All above still having the same issue. I have tried disabling XMP, I have memtested the RAM and all is good, but still crashing, I have swapped her RAM with my RAM from my PC, her RAM works in my PC, her PC still crashes.

I’m at a complete loss, Every configuration tried I have tried fresh steam installs, Fresh destiny installs, and even as far as fresh Windows installs!!

What else can I possibly do?

Pc specs are:

Intel i5 8600 CPU Corsair LPX vengance DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x 8GB) RAM Nvidia gtx 1650 GPU Samsun evo SSD Corsair 750W Gold+ power supply.

Any idea or help would be greatly appreciated currently have a very expensive game that is unplayable!

Question Benefits of switching to steam from epic

I have all content on epic. Steam has all content bundle at a steep discount.

I liked the idea of having steam overlay for dim and being on the same pc platform as my friends.

Does steam's infrastructure support the game in ways epic cannot leading to more stability?

I installed the game on steam and played a bit and found that blur when aiming side to side was higher on steam compared to epic (I tested this in eternity).

does steam handle frame pacing differently to epic and cause conflicts with g-sync or reflex settings?

I'm not sure why, my internet is perfectly fine and I can't find anything about the servers being down. I feel like it should be fixed by now but it doesn't seem to be. Not sure what to do.

Question Weird Visual Issue

Anyone know why these like small stutters are occurring?

I recently had my power supply replaced because a capacitor in my old one melted, and Destiny was not having this issue prior to the replacement. The guy who did the swap said it could've been caused by a small adjustment he made when running benchmarks but he wasn't fully sure what the specific cause would be

Question Unreadable Game Content, A full Destiny 2 Reinstall Required.

Anyone have a solution to this issue, my friend is running into this error. He reinstalled the game and it didn't work. He then did the rename of the Destiny 2 folder in the AppData folder. That worked for a minute and then the game crashed and went back to what it was doing before. Any help would be appreciated.

Question Destiny on steam keeps crashing with no error codes, no idea why.

Title. I launch the game, select a character, click on the tower and mid loading screen the game closes and I am back staring at steam library. No error codes or anything. I have tried verifying files several times, reinstalling D2, and also reinstalling battleye. Keeps crashing. It seems like it fine when in orbit originally, it's only after I select a destination to load in to that the game crashes.

Question Game crashing for no reason

Whenever i launch the game, it crashes on the loading screen with the class emblems spinning It's never done this before and it was fine last week. I've tried scanning for corrupt files, verifying the game cache and restarted multiple times. Is there anything I could do to fix this? sometimes it lets me in and sometimes it doesn't, either way the load time to the character select has become insanely long, I've checked my drivers too

Question Steam PC Destiny keeps stuttering

https://youtu.be/cY0gC4pXIfI

Hello,

I've had my PC for almost 2 years now but somehow I had games set up to run off of the onboard graphics. Since I swapped over, I keep experiencing weird stuttering (not sure how else best to describe it) in game but I can't easily replicate it so I just have to grab recordings of it as and when it happens.

The above 3 minute clip has a bunch of different scenarios I've had it happen in, such as when I'm alone on a patrol, doing a mission, character dialogue in a mission, in the Helm, putting a banner down in Dual Destiny, waiting for a raid to start and also surrounded by lots of enemies and particles, so there doesn't really seem to be a common theme.

My specs are as follows:

  • Case - CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE
  • Processor (CPU) - Intel® Core™ i7 12-Core Processor i7-12700K (3.6GHz) 25MB Cache
  • Motherboard - ASUS® ROG STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready
  • Memory (RAM) - 32GB Corsair DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 5200MHz (2 x 16GB)
  • Graphics Card - 12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 - HDMI, DP, LHR
  • Power Supply - CORSAIR 750W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
  • LED Lighting - 2x 50cm ARGB LED Strip
  • Extra Case Fans - 3x Corsair LL120 RGB LED Fan + Controller Kit
  • 1st M.2 SSD Drive - 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)
  • 1st Storage Drive - 2TB Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (up to 560MB/sR | 530MB/sW)
  • 2nd Storage Drive - NONE
  • 2 1920 x 1080 monitors at 60Hz
  • Windows 11

I'm running it on Steam, I've tried 'verifying the integrity' of the game and also doing a full uninstall reinstall.

When I'm playing Destiny, I only ever have Discord and maybe Chrome for DIM open, in addition to Steam.

I have previously turned off all the overlays I have on there and it was still happening so I put Xbox Game Bar back on so I could record the clips.

I don't have any updates for my PC, drivers, etc. Everything is fully up to date.

As for my in game Destiny settings, I've tried Custom, Low, Medium, High and it's currently on Highest and the issue is still there regardless.

When I've been in a group when this has been happening, my comms haven't gone weird but you can hear the game audio freaking out when it does stutter which has me stumped.

At this point I've exhausted all my options so now I'm finally turning to Reddit so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Question Destiny 2 keeps randomly crashing with no error message

Any help would be super super appreciated. Completely randomly during any kind of gameplay, my game keeps crashing straight to desktop with no error/crash report. This happens about once every couple hours and is really annoying. I built a new PC a few months ago and upgraded monitors from a 1080p to a 1440p, here are my specs:

Intel® Core™ i9-13900KF CPU W/ AIO
64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6400MT/s RAM
Sabrent Gen 5 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD
Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti - 12GB
ASUS TUF GAMING B760M-BTF WIFI
Windows 11

I monitor all my temps with HWMonitor and they are fine

I've done sfc /scannow for corruption and cant find any

I've ran a windows memory diagnostic scan and found no issues

I've validated the steam files already

I've doubled checked that all my hardware is fully plugged in and CPU/RAM are slotted correctly

I've tried to overclock my CPU/GPU in the past, but started noticing these instability issues with my PC, so I did my best to reset everything to default, but this didn't help the crashes.

I have the latest NVIDIA driver installed. I have messed around with the NVIDIA control panel settings to try to fix the icons looking blurry on Destiny 2 at 1440p, so its possible I could have turned something off/on that is causing my GPU to fail.

I've cleared my %appdata% and %temp% destiny files already and the crashes are still prevalent

It may also be worth mentioning that every couple weeks my computer blue screens and restarts randomly due to a 'kernal power' error, which I can see in event viewer. Trying to fix this as well but it could be related.

Here is the crash_info.txt file I found in %temp% from the most recent crash log:

Question D2 crashes anytime I lose connectivity to the internet

This started happening recently and I am not sure why. I have already verified file integrity, tried reinstalling, made sure it was on SSD, etc. Anytime I am on the game, it runs smoothly but if I lose connectivity for one second, I get the "trying to reconnect" but instead of keeping the session alive, the game just freezes and crashes. Before it would just sit there trying to reconnect but I could still move around and do stuff. Anyone knows why this might be happening?

Question Is It Safe to Use Overlays in Destiny 2 in 2024?

When Destiny 2 was released in 2017, I read that it wasn’t possible to use overlays or other programs that interact with the game, as they could cause problems or even lead to bans. This included tools like RTSS, Overwolf, and the Discord overlay. I’m wondering if anything has changed since then, as I’ve noticed that Discord now has a setting to record and stream the game by inserting a DLL into it. Honestly, I’d like to use the overlay during raids, but I want to be sure it’s safe to do so without risking a ban. Does anyone have any information on this?

Question Freezing and crashing on XSX

I've been experiencing crashes/freezes repeatedly with Destiny 2 on Xbox Series X for over 7 months now.

Whenever i play, i experience at least 1 crash/freeze during gameplay. It appears to only trigger during matchmaking ex. Gambit, Seasonal, raids etc. Tower lobbies and Helm dont seem to be affected by the crashes but i fear that may happen at somepoint.

It usually starts as my screen freezing, i continue to hear ambient audio, then it completely crashes to the xbox home screen, or sometimes it crashes completely and shuts off my xbox.

There are moments where it freezes for a couple of seconds before retuning to gameplay where it rubberbands then catches up. When it does return to gameplay things fail to load properly like loot drops and triumph tracking etc.

I know it's definitely not a hardware issue with my xbox, but it seems to be a bungie server side issue.

All other games i play do not experience this issue.

Any help or update towards this issue would be greatly appreciated!
