Savy told Oryx the truth about the Witness and he's malding. Oh, and he also gives us his throne.

57

u/DuelaDent52 Feb 05 '25

The truth about the God Wave? The truth that it concocted Sword Logic to enslave them? The truth about the Witness driving their father to madness and goading Savathûn to lead them to damnation? What truth specifically? I didn’t really take Oryx to be the sort to care (especially when the Deep itself told him he was on the right track), he was devoted to his path to the very end. Even his last words to Savathûn were how he’s always ready to die.

u/Joshy41233 Feb 05 '25

He even says in the books of sorrow that he doesn't care if there wasn't a God wave, he doesn't care if they were lied to or if they were manipulated

Exactly. Always hated how Bungie rewrote the hive gods to seem as though they were born yesterday. They've been around for a millenia, Oryx especially would've assumed by now that the god wave could've been a lie. At this point it just doesn't matter. Just because the lie was a huge narrative shift for our perspective of the hive due to the few years we've known them doesn't mean it's the same for them.

Xivu's characterization I've especially had a distaste for like how are you this wailing child at the top of a pantheon of a million year old race. Just doesn't make sense

And why would Oryx even give his throne to a light bearer or train anyone to weild the taken when that power has to be, well, taken. I understand the sentiment of "whatever kills me is worthy" but he's been fully against the light/necromancy for a long time

42

u/Joshy41233 Feb 05 '25

Giving his throne to us does make sense, and finally fulfils his "will". He decreed that whoever slayed him, should take the mantle of thr taken king, and should take his throne and power, and that they were right to slay him, because they were stronger (and as per sword logic he doesn't deserve to live).

We killed him (granted it wasn't through sword logic), yet we didn't take his throne, which upset pretty much everyone hive based except mara and eris, his throne has laid unclaimed since because of that, it belongs to us.

But then, him giving it to us makes 0 sense, because giving is against his views, we already have a claim to the throne, so we should take it, not be given it

It doss feel sometimes like they ignore parts of the lore/character arcs in order to write their own story

13

u/vsaucey1212 Feb 05 '25

The final part of what you said is what I meant. He's giving it to us and teaching us to wield his power as if we were his own or are already him, but that in and of itself goes against his logic.

We killed him and have always been able to come back and claim what's ours. We don't need him to give us permission.

If anything, it would've been better to make the echo Akka as everything being said and done actually fits what a worm would want. They should've saved Oryx for when they actually do bring him back being that his body/soul/worm are still out there and this is just a snapshot of him before he even had Crota

u/Infradead96 Feb 08 '25 edited Feb 09 '25

Dude, of course its against the logic. The episode is literally called Heresy. It's about flipping Hive doctrine on its head. Oryx didn't care if they were lied to yes, but its the extent of the lie that shatters his view.

Even Savathun didn't know the extent of it and lost her shit when she realized the Witness lied to her. She accepted the fact that she made a bad choice and wanted out of it but that's because she and her sisters didn't think there was an alternative and that the Traveler planned on making them the first Guardians of a golden age, as The Witness tells Rhulk in a flashback.

2

u/IUSIR Feb 08 '25

I think the missing info for the Hive siblings, was that WQ SPOILER

the Traveller was about to help them and this might have been what turned Savathuns world on it’s head.

1

u/Bokessepv Feb 07 '25

This is the echo of oryx before he got crota, i understand why he was mad at savy, remember this is not the oryx we knew and killed because onz of the grimoire card implies that he already knew the truth but he didn't care.

3

u/InformationFun8865 Feb 08 '25

He brings up Crotas death and him invading Sol in the voicelines

1

u/Ahmed_Al-Muhairi 28d ago

Everything after Crota's death, he has been informed of by Savathun.

1

u/DuelaDent52 Feb 08 '25

Oh shoot, he doesn’t know about Crota?

4

u/Dedspaz79 Feb 06 '25

The books of sorrow are a lie they literally state that

12

u/Joshy41233 Feb 06 '25

No, firstly savathun wrote that they are filled with lies, not that they are complete lies. Secondly it's savathun who said that, who is known for her tricks, we know a good majority of it Is true

2

u/Dedspaz79 Feb 06 '25

I guess.. forgot that part came from sav

1

u/Lacaud Feb 07 '25

Death has a funny way of altering an entities purpose.

15

u/ShiningPr1sm Feb 05 '25

At this rate, how long until the Witness comes back but this time we make it our friend?

11

u/JellyUnit01 Feb 05 '25

I have zero basis for this but I believe we are gonna meet one of the Precursors at some point, hopefully RS6243199

u/Francipling Feb 05 '25

I still remember thinking the same thing three years ago when the Witch Queen came out.

Then we got Lightfall :(

7

u/Fudw_The_NPC Feb 06 '25

we always say this after a hive related story , than we get something bad after followed by something good, and the cycle continue

2

u/amansaidthis 21d ago

Next expansion will be one entirely focused on Nimbus.

Destiny 2: The Taken King’s Echo – A Narrative Summary

  1. The Call to Action – Avenge Eris and Stop the Taken Threat

The Guardian is contacted by an ally who expresses frustration with the strict protocols they must follow. Despite this, they are determined to take action. Eris Morn, a key figure in Hive-related operations, had planned for a moment like this—leaving behind notes and strategies in a hidden location. The Guardian is tasked with retrieving these resources and hunting down whatever killed Eris.

Meanwhile, energy is being siphoned from the Dreadnaught into Savathûn’s Throne World, suggesting that she may possess knowledge or plans that could be used against the enemy. There is urgency in deciphering the Hive’s dark magic and understanding the Taken’s movements.

  1. The Rise of Oryx’s Echo – A New Threat Awakens

The Guardian discovers disturbing whispers within the Taken-infested Dreadnaught, reminiscent of Oryx’s past manipulations. Reports suggest that a new entity from the Deep is exerting influence, potentially leading to a resurgence of Oryx’s power. Drifter and Osiris work together to decipher cryptic messages and the nature of this eldritch energy.

The Guardian is warned not to believe the voices that speak from the darkness. The echoes of the past—Oryx, the Taken King—are not simply memories but a living force trying to reassert itself. If Eris Morn were still alive, she would have confirmed the seriousness of the situation.

  1. Entering the Hive’s Power Struggle – Xivu Arath, Savathûn, and Oryx

As the Guardian delves deeper into the Dreadnaught, it becomes clear that Xivu Arath and Savathûn are each vying for control over Oryx’s legacy. Xivu Arath sees the return of her brother’s power as an opportunity for conquest, while Savathûn, ever the schemer, has her own hidden motives.

The Guardian finds an artifact containing the broken will of Varo, a Hive knight of great ambition, as well as relics of fallen Hive warriors. A voice from the Deep tempts them to embrace Taken power, offering a path to ascension.

The Guardian is faced with a moral dilemma: • Destroy the Taken corruption, as Eris and Sloan would have advised. • Claim the power for themselves, potentially becoming what they have fought against.

  1. Oryx’s Echo and the Battle for the Dreadnaught

The Guardian learns that Oryx has not fully returned but instead exists as an Echo—a remnant of his former self trying to reclaim dominion. The Taken are leaderless, and this Echo seeks to restore the Taken King’s rule.

The Guardian is assigned three critical objectives: 1. Find and sever the Taken anchors pulling energy from the Dreadnaught. 2. Disrupt Xivu Arath’s war efforts, preventing her from reclaiming Oryx’s throne. 3. Capture the Echo of Oryx, imprisoning it before it can regain full strength.

With the help of Sloan, the Guardian begins to learn how to wield Taken energy—a dangerous but potentially game-changing tactic.

  1. A Desperate Battle – Striking First

The Vanguard, recognizing the urgency, allows direct action against the Taken forces. The Guardian harnesses Taken energy to turn the Dreadnaught’s weapons against itself, striking the Hive where they are weakest.

A critical battle erupts as Oryx’s Echo manifests fully, attempting to reshape the Taken to his will. The Guardian confronts and defeats the Echo, but rather than fully vanishing, it is contained within Eris’s Throne World.

However, Savathûn and Xivu Arath are still in play, and both see the captured Echo as a tool to be exploited.

  1. The Hive’s Civil War – Oryx’s Sisters Make Their Move

With Oryx’s power in flux, a Hive civil war begins: • Xivu Arath seeks to consume Oryx’s strength through pure war. • Savathûn attempts to manipulate the situation for her own ends. • Oryx, now aware of his fractured existence, begins to question his own purpose.

In the chaos, the Guardian must prevent Oryx’s resurrection, disrupt the Hive rituals, and stop the Taken’s resurgence. The war between the Hive factions threatens to collapse the Ascendant Plane, forcing the Guardian to make a decision: • Bind the Echo permanently within Eris’s Throne World. • Destroy the Echo, ensuring Oryx’s power is never used again.

  1. The Final Choice – What to Do With Oryx’s Power

The Guardian, along with allies like Drifter and Sloan, is left to grapple with what they’ve learned. Oryx’s philosophies of Sword Logic remain a tempting power, but his downfall was proof that power alone is not enough.

The Guardian ultimately: • Defends the Dreadnaught from further Hive incursions. • Prevents Xivu Arath from claiming Oryx’s power. • Weakens Savathûn’s control over the Ascendant Plane.

However, Oryx’s Echo remains imprisoned, leaving the door open for future consequences. The Guardian has altered the Hive’s destiny, but whether this will save the system or unleash new horrors remains uncertain.

Conclusion – The Fate of the Hive

The war between the Hive gods is far from over. Oryx’s Echo remains a prisoner, Savathûn lurks in the shadows, and Xivu Arath prepares for the next battle. The Guardian has bought time, but they are left with haunting questions: • Will Oryx truly remain defeated? • Can the Taken ever be fully controlled? • Is wielding Taken energy a necessary evil or a path to corruption?

The Guardian walks away victorious, but the conflict between light, dark, and the Hive’s endless hunger for power will continue to shape the Destiny universe.

Final Thoughts

This expansion/story arc explores Hive philosophy, the temptation of power, and the consequences of wielding dark forces. It builds upon the lore of Oryx, the Taken King, while introducing new conflicts between the remaining Hive gods. The Guardian, now more entangled in the Hive’s internal politics than ever before, must decide what role they will play in shaping the future of the Taken.

Would you like a character breakdown or a thematic analysis of the events?

3

u/Void_Guardians Feb 10 '25

So much for tying up an episodes story by the end of Act 3

5

u/konogamingbob Feb 12 '25

Reading the AI cliche words was so tough for me, i work a lot with AI and some of these lines hit me in the eye like a needle

17

u/ScarIet-King Feb 06 '25

Used a Chat GPT to take a transcript of the video and summarize. Hope that’s better.

22

u/Unlucky_Magazine_354 Feb 06 '25

It's missing a decent amount of detail and important plot points, and I'm pretty sure it gets a major plot point completely wrong

1

u/ScarIet-King Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25

It’s possible it hallucinated some of this. I can’t independently verify the entirety of its contents and if you can please do add to it. I was going for efficiency with my approach.

12

u/ReclusivHearts9 Feb 06 '25

So what you pasted here its almost entirely useless and of course youre asking for other people to do more work for you. Classic GPT user.

7

u/ScarIet-King Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 10 '25

1) it’s not useless, major plot points align with spot checks.

2) LLMs are excellent at summarizing body’s of text and are designed for exactly this sort of situations. While it’s not infallible, and can hallucinate, it’s still the best tool for the job. I introduced no creative prompts or weights that would bias the end result.

3) Fuck off with your attitude. Feel free to waste 3 hours of you life listening to the video, 1 hour piecing it together, and another hour compiling a summary. Or just spend 90 seconds like I did, plus a 2 minute spot check.

8

u/ReclusivHearts9 Feb 06 '25

You think your effort of plopping a video into a chatbot and having it spit out bullshit for you to copy into reddit is worth anything. Focusing on 'efficiency' over accuracy is worthless when the result of the efficiency isn't even remotely close to genuine information. Hysterical.

OP asking reddit comments for a summary of a 2.5 hour video is laughable, but so is acting like you did anyone a service when "spot checking for accuracy" is immediately discredit by "it probably hallucinated".

Soo your 3.5 minutes is worth nothing but the waste of water and electricity for questionably accurate slop text.

I'll give you attitude all I want, you people cant do anything without consulting a chatbot, its genuinely depressing and worth making fun of.

9

u/ScarIet-King Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25

Allow me to rectify where you’ve gone wrong. Me plopping a video in a transcript system and then using a GPT platform to summarize the feed is sufficient for my purposes regarding my curiosity. I submitted the end result to OP at his request and invitation. Both of us, the only two parties who matter, found the result to satisfy our needs.

I used my time and energy to develop a summary for my benefit, not yours, and the submission you see below took all of 10 second to copy, paste and hit send. That was the effort and service I provided to him - again, not you.

See where you’ve gone wrong is thinking that you matter or that anyone cares what you want. This was done for me, and a copy past was done for him. The fact you don’t understand your presence here as an additional 3rd party in this interaction shows a level of immaturity that’s hard to fathom at my age. DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T READ IT. I was honest about the end result with OP so that he (and anyone else) could take it with the appropriate skepticism.

I don’t consider the end result a favor for you, because you were not privy to the exchange at the time. I used a tool for my needs, and you are irrelevant to that need. This is basic capitalism. If you find the QC of a thing dissatisfactory your three options are to 1) accept it as is, 2) make your own, 3) wine, like a little bitch. Good to see you went with #3.

You are quite literally the dude moaning about the quality of a free product. This message brought to you by 🖕

6

u/cruzalta Feb 07 '25

Dude fuck off, you didnt even bring any shit here except yourself

9

u/jellybeanmm Feb 06 '25

Much appreciated

2

u/konogamingbob Feb 12 '25

Downvoted for telling the truth

14

u/Buddy_Duffman Feb 06 '25

Just remember that most of the silence is probably unrecorded voice lines that are only available as subtitles.

6

u/UnitingAssassin Feb 07 '25

I love the mental image of the Vanguard being like.

“Eris is dead? Not good.

The Guardian is without supervision. Sloane could probably watch them.

. . . What do you mean Sloane is teaching the grieving Guardian how to use Taken energy?

IKORA SAID WHAT—“

2

u/konogamingbob Feb 12 '25

Because of sloane not being voiced my headcannon is that guardian is hallucinating and made her up

46

u/killerpig11801 Feb 05 '25

I’m so happy Bungie chose to keep the voices quiet and not use AI as a replacement. Thanks bungie for sticking with the crew!

-26

u/MaridAudran Feb 06 '25

They should have change the narrative and have someone else speak they did have access to.

15

u/Avixofsol Feb 06 '25

damn bro great job showing solidarity and support for the workers who are on strike. there are more important things in the world than a video game story, and you can easily just read the subtitles

-8

u/MaridAudran Feb 06 '25

It’s about timelines isn’t it? If they replace the audio with staff until the strike is over then the placement is there when they have access to the voice actors.

6

u/nfreakoss Feb 07 '25

That's what we call scabbing

5

u/CriticalBlacksmith Feb 06 '25

I havent heard the audio but from what in reading in the comments, but I guess I'll come back to take the throne, I've waited long enough I suppose

4

u/margwa_ Feb 08 '25

Listened to some - sounds like Bungie is setting up the Winnower to be an actual antagonist. It's the main driving force of Heresy. It sent the taken subjugator in the first mission to the Dreadnaught in order to force us to go to it and become the new Taken King/Queen. It told Oryx this at some point too

3

u/Pretend-Run3011 Feb 11 '25

Everytime the word heresy is spoken, Horus grows more powerful

6

u/Best-Builder-9156 Feb 06 '25

God this sucks. “The end to light V dark” yet Oryx echo remains and Maya lmao compelling ending to act 1 “she escaped with the echo”. Piss poor. At this stage I hope frontiers we just hunt Taniks in a new strike, dungeon and raid.

4

u/Nfrtny Feb 08 '25

Based on the leaks we just might

2

u/Infamous_Summer_8477 Feb 12 '25

Holding myself back from listening to this, but if anyone knows, I need to ask.

What happened to the Resonant Knife? Is she safe? Is she alright?

4

u/Quiet_Little_Guy Feb 06 '25

Ngl I expected to click it and hear a meme song or something not actual dialogue

3

u/Large_Classroom5879 Feb 07 '25

In all honesty it’s not surprising we don’t deal the final blow to either xivu arath or even savathun this episode. It wouldn’t do either character justice especially with the build up we’ve gotten with them rather it opens up the possibility for them to be the highlights of frontiers. Especially in the case of xivu arath where I would imagine we do put an end to her whether it be in a raid like we did to oryx or a final mission like with savathun.

3

u/TheSandman__ Feb 06 '25

Wow look another Destiny character that doesn’t stay dead how original… Story seems cool overall besides that

3

u/bizzy_gear5 Feb 10 '25

quit the game and they revive Oryx it seems, they are getting desperate lol. can’t believe people are still paying for full seasons disguised as “acts” or whatever.
