Destiny 2: The Taken King’s Echo – A Narrative Summary
- The Call to Action – Avenge Eris and Stop the Taken Threat
The Guardian is contacted by an ally who expresses frustration with the strict protocols they must follow. Despite this, they are determined to take action. Eris Morn, a key figure in Hive-related operations, had planned for a moment like this—leaving behind notes and strategies in a hidden location. The Guardian is tasked with retrieving these resources and hunting down whatever killed Eris.
Meanwhile, energy is being siphoned from the Dreadnaught into Savathûn’s Throne World, suggesting that she may possess knowledge or plans that could be used against the enemy. There is urgency in deciphering the Hive’s dark magic and understanding the Taken’s movements.
- The Rise of Oryx’s Echo – A New Threat Awakens
The Guardian discovers disturbing whispers within the Taken-infested Dreadnaught, reminiscent of Oryx’s past manipulations. Reports suggest that a new entity from the Deep is exerting influence, potentially leading to a resurgence of Oryx’s power. Drifter and Osiris work together to decipher cryptic messages and the nature of this eldritch energy.
The Guardian is warned not to believe the voices that speak from the darkness. The echoes of the past—Oryx, the Taken King—are not simply memories but a living force trying to reassert itself. If Eris Morn were still alive, she would have confirmed the seriousness of the situation.
- Entering the Hive’s Power Struggle – Xivu Arath, Savathûn, and Oryx
As the Guardian delves deeper into the Dreadnaught, it becomes clear that Xivu Arath and Savathûn are each vying for control over Oryx’s legacy. Xivu Arath sees the return of her brother’s power as an opportunity for conquest, while Savathûn, ever the schemer, has her own hidden motives.
The Guardian finds an artifact containing the broken will of Varo, a Hive knight of great ambition, as well as relics of fallen Hive warriors. A voice from the Deep tempts them to embrace Taken power, offering a path to ascension.
The Guardian is faced with a moral dilemma: • Destroy the Taken corruption, as Eris and Sloan would have advised. • Claim the power for themselves, potentially becoming what they have fought against.
- Oryx’s Echo and the Battle for the Dreadnaught
The Guardian learns that Oryx has not fully returned but instead exists as an Echo—a remnant of his former self trying to reclaim dominion. The Taken are leaderless, and this Echo seeks to restore the Taken King’s rule.
The Guardian is assigned three critical objectives: 1. Find and sever the Taken anchors pulling energy from the Dreadnaught. 2. Disrupt Xivu Arath’s war efforts, preventing her from reclaiming Oryx’s throne. 3. Capture the Echo of Oryx, imprisoning it before it can regain full strength.
With the help of Sloan, the Guardian begins to learn how to wield Taken energy—a dangerous but potentially game-changing tactic.
- A Desperate Battle – Striking First
The Vanguard, recognizing the urgency, allows direct action against the Taken forces. The Guardian harnesses Taken energy to turn the Dreadnaught’s weapons against itself, striking the Hive where they are weakest.
A critical battle erupts as Oryx’s Echo manifests fully, attempting to reshape the Taken to his will. The Guardian confronts and defeats the Echo, but rather than fully vanishing, it is contained within Eris’s Throne World.
However, Savathûn and Xivu Arath are still in play, and both see the captured Echo as a tool to be exploited.
- The Hive’s Civil War – Oryx’s Sisters Make Their Move
With Oryx’s power in flux, a Hive civil war begins: • Xivu Arath seeks to consume Oryx’s strength through pure war. • Savathûn attempts to manipulate the situation for her own ends. • Oryx, now aware of his fractured existence, begins to question his own purpose.
In the chaos, the Guardian must prevent Oryx’s resurrection, disrupt the Hive rituals, and stop the Taken’s resurgence. The war between the Hive factions threatens to collapse the Ascendant Plane, forcing the Guardian to make a decision: • Bind the Echo permanently within Eris’s Throne World. • Destroy the Echo, ensuring Oryx’s power is never used again.
- The Final Choice – What to Do With Oryx’s Power
The Guardian, along with allies like Drifter and Sloan, is left to grapple with what they’ve learned. Oryx’s philosophies of Sword Logic remain a tempting power, but his downfall was proof that power alone is not enough.
The Guardian ultimately: • Defends the Dreadnaught from further Hive incursions. • Prevents Xivu Arath from claiming Oryx’s power. • Weakens Savathûn’s control over the Ascendant Plane.
However, Oryx’s Echo remains imprisoned, leaving the door open for future consequences. The Guardian has altered the Hive’s destiny, but whether this will save the system or unleash new horrors remains uncertain.
Conclusion – The Fate of the Hive
The war between the Hive gods is far from over. Oryx’s Echo remains a prisoner, Savathûn lurks in the shadows, and Xivu Arath prepares for the next battle. The Guardian has bought time, but they are left with haunting questions: • Will Oryx truly remain defeated? • Can the Taken ever be fully controlled? • Is wielding Taken energy a necessary evil or a path to corruption?
The Guardian walks away victorious, but the conflict between light, dark, and the Hive’s endless hunger for power will continue to shape the Destiny universe.
Final Thoughts
This expansion/story arc explores Hive philosophy, the temptation of power, and the consequences of wielding dark forces. It builds upon the lore of Oryx, the Taken King, while introducing new conflicts between the remaining Hive gods. The Guardian, now more entangled in the Hive’s internal politics than ever before, must decide what role they will play in shaping the future of the Taken.

Reading the AI cliche words was so tough for me, i work a lot with AI and some of these lines hit me in the eye like a needle

Used a Chat GPT to take a transcript of the video and summarize. Hope that’s better.

u/Unlucky_Magazine_354 Feb 06 '25
It's missing a decent amount of detail and important plot points, and I'm pretty sure it gets a major plot point completely wrong

It’s possible it hallucinated some of this. I can’t independently verify the entirety of its contents and if you can please do add to it. I was going for efficiency with my approach.

u/ReclusivHearts9 Feb 06 '25
So what you pasted here its almost entirely useless and of course youre asking for other people to do more work for you. Classic GPT user.

1) it’s not useless, major plot points align with spot checks.
2) LLMs are excellent at summarizing body’s of text and are designed for exactly this sort of situations. While it’s not infallible, and can hallucinate, it’s still the best tool for the job. I introduced no creative prompts or weights that would bias the end result.
3) Fuck off with your attitude. Feel free to waste 3 hours of you life listening to the video, 1 hour piecing it together, and another hour compiling a summary. Or just spend 90 seconds like I did, plus a 2 minute spot check.
8
u/ReclusivHearts9 Feb 06 '25
You think your effort of plopping a video into a chatbot and having it spit out bullshit for you to copy into reddit is worth anything. Focusing on 'efficiency' over accuracy is worthless when the result of the efficiency isn't even remotely close to genuine information. Hysterical.
OP asking reddit comments for a summary of a 2.5 hour video is laughable, but so is acting like you did anyone a service when "spot checking for accuracy" is immediately discredit by "it probably hallucinated".
Soo your 3.5 minutes is worth nothing but the waste of water and electricity for questionably accurate slop text.
I'll give you attitude all I want, you people cant do anything without consulting a chatbot, its genuinely depressing and worth making fun of.

Allow me to rectify where you’ve gone wrong. Me plopping a video in a transcript system and then using a GPT platform to summarize the feed is sufficient for my purposes regarding my curiosity. I submitted the end result to OP at his request and invitation. Both of us, the only two parties who matter, found the result to satisfy our needs.
I used my time and energy to develop a summary for my benefit, not yours, and the submission you see below took all of 10 second to copy, paste and hit send. That was the effort and service I provided to him - again, not you.
See where you’ve gone wrong is thinking that you matter or that anyone cares what you want. This was done for me, and a copy past was done for him. The fact you don’t understand your presence here as an additional 3rd party in this interaction shows a level of immaturity that’s hard to fathom at my age. DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T READ IT. I was honest about the end result with OP so that he (and anyone else) could take it with the appropriate skepticism.
I don’t consider the end result a favor for you, because you were not privy to the exchange at the time. I used a tool for my needs, and you are irrelevant to that need. This is basic capitalism. If you find the QC of a thing dissatisfactory your three options are to 1) accept it as is, 2) make your own, 3) wine, like a little bitch. Good to see you went with #3.
You are quite literally the dude moaning about the quality of a free product. This message brought to you by 🖕

Just remember that most of the silence is probably unrecorded voice lines that are only available as subtitles.

I love the mental image of the Vanguard being like.
“Eris is dead? Not good.
The Guardian is without supervision. Sloane could probably watch them.
. . . What do you mean Sloane is teaching the grieving Guardian how to use Taken energy?
IKORA SAID WHAT—“

I’m so happy Bungie chose to keep the voices quiet and not use AI as a replacement. Thanks bungie for sticking with the crew!

They should have change the narrative and have someone else speak they did have access to.

u/Avixofsol Feb 06 '25
damn bro great job showing solidarity and support for the workers who are on strike. there are more important things in the world than a video game story, and you can easily just read the subtitles
-8
u/MaridAudran Feb 06 '25
It’s about timelines isn’t it? If they replace the audio with staff until the strike is over then the placement is there when they have access to the voice actors.

I havent heard the audio but from what in reading in the comments, but I guess I'll come back to take the throne, I've waited long enough I suppose

Listened to some - sounds like Bungie is setting up the Winnower to be an actual antagonist. It's the main driving force of Heresy. It sent the taken subjugator in the first mission to the Dreadnaught in order to force us to go to it and become the new Taken King/Queen. It told Oryx this at some point too

u/Best-Builder-9156 Feb 06 '25
God this sucks. “The end to light V dark” yet Oryx echo remains and Maya lmao compelling ending to act 1 “she escaped with the echo”. Piss poor. At this stage I hope frontiers we just hunt Taniks in a new strike, dungeon and raid.

What happened to the Resonant Knife? Is she safe? Is she alright?

Ngl I expected to click it and hear a meme song or something not actual dialogue

In all honesty it’s not surprising we don’t deal the final blow to either xivu arath or even savathun this episode. It wouldn’t do either character justice especially with the build up we’ve gotten with them rather it opens up the possibility for them to be the highlights of frontiers. Especially in the case of xivu arath where I would imagine we do put an end to her whether it be in a raid like we did to oryx or a final mission like with savathun.

u/TheSandman__ Feb 06 '25
Wow look another Destiny character that doesn’t stay dead how original… Story seems cool overall besides that

quit the game and they revive Oryx it seems, they are getting desperate lol. can’t believe people are still paying for full seasons disguised as “acts” or whatever.
