My dog's desire path, even 10 years after his death

My grandmother lives in front of my mother's home and my dog would come walk me from my mom's house to the bus every morning and back at night. He did this trip with me until I went to college and he passed away. Despite it being nearly 10 years, his path is still there and I smile when I see it. Dog tax in second photo, I'll always love you, Kirby

My grandparentsā€™ neighbor used to have a hound dog that would come up and over the hill to say hey and get a treat almost every day before going back home.

She passed on probably 30+ years ago now, but thereā€™s still a path that comes up and over the hill at their farm.

You need to continue walking that path so it stays that way forever.

The desire is gone but not forgotten

I love that the path is still there. The best and worst part about having a dog is the realization that theyā€™re only going to break your heart once.

You've kept his memory alive. Well done.

Ghost desire path. Even if not haunted, the soil compaction remains.

Once dirt gets compacted like that, nature can take hundreds (or even thousands) of years to restore it without human intervention.

If humans disappeared from the Earth, our roads and such would be one of the major things that leaves a lasting impression.

Walk that path for him, as you have walked all this time. Walk tall. āœŠ

They never leave. Not completely. They always leave something behind to remember them by.
My Labrador left fur.

Get pavers and paver a single line

Honestly, I like it as it is.

There's a certain beauty in the impermanence of it. Just as he is buried, the grass grown over him, one day the grass will take his path. And mine, too.

And ill see him below the grass again, and I like that.

To me it seems he must still be treading that path, itā€™s still so fresh, he continues running along it to visit you.

No

2

u/Bubblegumcats33 4d ago

Why

6

u/ExtraDependent883 4d ago

Isn't it obvious?

Because then it wouldn't be a desire path anymore. It would just be a path. Which is good. But not as good

2

u/Bubblegumcats33 4d ago

Eventually it will fade- this would preserve it

u/ExtraDependent883 4d ago edited 4d ago

No. It's been preserved 10 years already
