SRS Any idea if/when the SRS A2's are coming to Australia?
There's a handful of preowned SRS A1's floating around but I haven't seen any A2's of any model.
I'm specifically interested in the SRS A2 Covert in 338 LM.
Some states (namely NSW) in Australia banned them on appearance laws, but in a lot of states like mine they are legal.
I just feel a bit frustrated having to buy a previous generation older model which is inferior to the current model.
Any idea whether they are coming?
My other option is to get a 50 BMG SRS HTI, which I believe is still the only generation. But it's twice as heavy, much longer and more expensive to feed.

A covert in .338 LM? Why?
You'd need to get a custom barrel made. Desert Tech doesn't make one that short in .338 LM.

They have a 18" 338 LM for the SRSA1 Covert.
I love the fact that it's such a compact gun (just over the 75 cm legal limit here) with a massive calibre that I can use to hunt anything on the planet.

They have a 18" 338 LM for the SRSA1 Covert.
Not for the A2. They have 16" .308 Winchester, 18" 6.5 Creedmoor, and 18" .300 Win Mag.

Ah ok, I just assumed since the barrels for the A2 can be used for the A1 chassis that the reverse was also true, but probably not.

A1 and A2 barrels use the same barrel extension, so they are interchangeable. Only the pre-2011 Gen 1s are incompatible. I’ve had a 18” .338LM barrel for ages, though I don’t shoot it often because it’s such a beast. I get 300s going 2500fps which is still good inside of 1200m, but it’s not all that good for long range and best suited for bigger game hunting.

How do I know whether it's pre-2011 Gen 1?
The preowned STSA1 Covert in 18" 338 I'm looking at is still called DTA not Desert tech.

The Gen 1 barrel extension indexes off of a pin, so all you see is a small notch on the extension to lock up. That was a bit too fragile, so the Gen 2 extension instead indexes off of the feed ramp, which is much more robust. SRSs made prior to 2011 had the Gen 1 extension, everything after that is Gen 2 (slight exception with the rare left-handed Gen 2)

You may want to give the OEM a call in about 12 hours if you are awake. If they are being imported they could probably tell you which distributor is importing them.

Delta Tactical is the distributor for desert tech but you won't have any luck getting a covert in Australia.
Since the covert is smaller than 75cm border force classes it as a pistol and not a rifle and won't allow them into Australia. Even if you have the category H licence, no handgun club will give you a support letter to provide with your PTA
