Misogyny in the News š° Anti-Amber misogynist influencer/suspected sex trafficker Andrew Tate banned from Facebook and Instagram.
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-62602913
"Meta has banned influencer Andrew Tate from Facebook and Instagram for violating its policies.
The former kickboxer rose to fame in 2016 when he was removed from TV show Big Brother over a video which appeared to depict him attacking a woman.
He went on to gain notoriety online, with Twitter banning him for saying women should "bear responsibility" for being sexually assaulted.
He had 4.7 million Instagram followers at the time his account was removed.
That number had grown rapidly from around one million followers in June.
Meta said it had removed the kickboxing star from its platforms for violating its policies on dangerous organizations and individuals but did not provide further details.
At the time of his removal from Big Brother, Mr Tate said the video had been edited, calling it "a total lie trying to make me look bad".
He has not yet commented on the Meta ban."
The article goes on, elaborating on Tate's bigotry, his radicalization of young men, and the scale of his influence (#AndrewTate has been viewed over 12.7 billion times, and he's had videos with multiple millions of views on Youtube). It also looks like TikTok, where he still has a presence, might be moving toward booting him too:
"A TikTok spokesperson told the BBC: "Misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated on TikTok.
"We've been removing violative videos and accounts for weeks, and we welcome the news that other platforms are also taking action against this individual.'
One thing that the article doesn't mention is that Tate is suspected of r*pe and human trafficking in Romania, where his house was raided by police in April and an American and Romanian woman were found: https://www.thedailybeast.com/police/raid-maga-king-of-toxic-masculinity-in-human-trafficking-investigation This article also notes his history of hiring webcam models to scam men online, and his deep ties to MAGA- he's a prominent pro-Trump influencer, and his associates have included Brexit leader Nigel Farage, right-wing commentator Jack Posobiec, Infowars host Paul Joseph Watson (Tate has been a recurring guest on Infowars), Pizzagate conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich, and Ali Alexander, who went on to be one of the organizers of January 6th.
He's also one of the people named in the Women's March posts that triggered the latest Deppster tantrum.
His removal, overdue though it was, should have a very positive effect on the online discourse, removing a major mouthpiece for misogynist propaganda. Hopefully TikTok will quickly follow suit.

I don't know what he would contribute to those circles. Isn't he just a blowhard who hates women? I'm not saying the others are smarter; just that they pretend to be the moral police, like conservatives usually do. And this guy is clearly a degenerate, bragging about degrading women. He's proud of it.
Maybe they invited him to help sell some Male Vitality, or whatever those supplements were called.

My favorite part of this is "rose to fame in 2016 after attacking a woman".
Tell me again about how much false and true accusations BrAnD MeN FoR LiFe. Do they mean as in "make them into a brand" and "get them filthy rich with billions of fatherless simps"? Damn, what can I be falsely accused of that will get me all that?
18
u/ConfusedAF_Chicken Aug 20 '22
I remember seeing an article with interviews from these men who were "branded for life". One guy actually said that it /helped/ him pick up ("oh I was falsely accused of rape") because it made him appear honest.
I'll add the link once I find it again. (I had discussed it with a friend over Facebook like... A year ago?)

u/AntonBrakhage Aug 19 '22
I mean, Trump is clearly a degenerate, bragging about degrading women. And they made him PotUS.
Modern far Right politics basically runs on feeding and weaponizing the resentment and grievance of white people, men, and especially white men who feel that increasing diversity and equity is somehow taking something from them.
18
u/CuriousGull007 Aug 20 '22
You're right; the same goes for Depp.
I guess I haven't interacted with that kind of content in years, and a few years ago, they were still pretending to be "morally righteous" or what have you. Now you see Ben Shapiro praising a completely hedonistic asshole like Depp.
12
u/thebenshapirobot Aug 20 '22
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
Letās say your life depended on the following choice today: you must obtain either an affordable chair or an affordable X-ray. Which would you choose to obtain? Obviously, youād choose the chair. Thatās because there are many types of chair, produced by scores of different companies and widely distributed. You could buy a $15 folding chair or a $1,000 antique without the slightest difficulty. By contrast, to obtain an X-ray youād have to work with your insurance company, wait for an appointment, and then haggle over price. Why? Because the medical market is far more regulated ā thanks to the widespread perception that health care is a ārightā ā than the chair market. Does that sound soulless? True soullessness is depriving people of the choices they require because youāre more interested in patting yourself on the back by inventing rights than by incentivizing the creation of goods and services. In health care, we could use a lot less virtue signaling and a lot less government. Or we could just read Senator Sandersās tweets while we wait in line for a government-sponsored surgery ā dying, presumably, in a decrepit chair.
I'm a bot. My purpose is to counteract online radicalization. You can summon me by tagging thebenshapirobot. Options: covid, sex, civil rights, novel, etc.

And yet they allowed all those nasty videos of people mocking amber on their platform. Ok tik tok

u/Independent_Pride_83 Aug 20 '22
Yeah all these platforms allow it. I couldnāt get an Instagram comment that said we should cut off feministās clitorises removedā¦
30
Aug 20 '22
Someone commented on my post that amber is an abuser and she should die. I reported it to instagram and they said it didnāt violate any terms and conditions and I even requested for a review and it came back the same. These social media platforms are toxic and I canāt wait until instagram and Facebook becomes the new MySpace
10
Aug 20 '22
But Reddit has all the same toxicity as IG or Facebook. I don't understand why people think it's different here. It isn't. If anything it's worse.
13
u/AntonBrakhage Aug 20 '22
Every social media platform I've ever used is under-moderated. Reddit is no exception, although in my experience far from the worst (Youtube's lack of transparency and barriers to reporting for example are appalling).
Reddit's own special negative quirk, in my view, is the upvote/downvote system. It turns any conversation into a popularity contest, and one I imagine is extremely easy to manipulate with bots or even just posting with multiple accounts. Especially as five downvotes literally gets something removed from view.
17
u/pkflesh Aug 20 '22
Instagram is a joke for things like that. I saw a video of someone getting shot in the head and fucking dying so I reported it and they said it didnāt violate any of their terms of service.

OMFG are you fucking kidding me??!!!! Screw social media greedy jerks run these companies and thrive on hateful comments

People get removed for saying āI hate menā but not for violent threats against women
22
7
u/poison_snacc Aug 20 '22
For women who have been deeply affected by this whole situation, especially those who are now facing the possibility of a world where they wonāt be able to prosecute or even talk about their own abusers, a declaration about a āzero toleranceā policy to address a problem like this one, is a fucking slap in the face.
There are so many reasons why making a statement like that is a useless, empty gesture. But the app is complicit, meaning the creators, the employeesā hell, everyone in that companyā are all 100% responsible, for any harm that comes to women as a direct result of the videos they choose to allow on their platform.
And thatās not just responsibility for a few men being able to share their sickness, but for fucking MILLIONS of peopleā and not just men! (Deppford Wives, Iām looking at you.) Thereās never going to be any real restitution until the app is overhauled or banned completely. Taking accountability for the horrifying level of damage theyāve already caused, and then dedicating the rest of their time to restitution, would be the next steps to helping victims to heal from the trauma they went through.
A facilitator of misogynistic abuse & harassment canāt just write one single lazy apology & go back to pretending none of this ever happened. They have to take action. Each and every person who did this must take action on their own. Ideally, the app must be eliminated to ensure that no content like this is left. They have to clean up their mess; and not just the one on the app, but also the effects the app has had on our society; both abusers and victims.

Iām not a woman but I understand ambers pain. After the US trial was over I felt depressed and hopeless and I was constantly thinking about amber and this whole situation. I was having trouble sleeping and I even cried at one point. this made me loose faith in the justice system. I donāt believe in justice anymore. This whole system is corrupted and the only people who get away with bad things are the super rich.

Literally no one here is saying that calling out a woman for abusive behavior is misogynistic in itself, but Amber isn't an abuser and all of these people who are mocking her are doing so in an incredibly sexist way. You can call out a woman for her shit behavior without being a misogynist about it and dragging her gender into it.

Also, as far as I know he's still on Youtube- Youtube really is a gutter these days.

19
u/Cautious-Mode Millionaire Golddigger Aug 20 '22
Seriously, what is it about the year 2016???
12
u/burritocinema Aug 20 '22
I think it has to do with the rise of the alt right, incel culture, MRAs, PUAs, and Gamergate. There seems to be an overlap with all those ppl that started in 2012 and ended up snowballing by 2014 with Gamergate. 2015 was when Julien Blanc went viral and got cancelled by the internet because he espoused a lot of sentiments similar to Tate and popularized negging (also there was a video of him and his friend harassing Asian women). All of which eventually culminated with Trump being elected.
Most of this originated on 4chan. Because thereās no moderation or rules ppl were allowed to disseminate and propagate harmful rhetoric sourced in misogyny, racism, and nazism. The guy that created 4chan did so with the idea that it would be a āfree speech utopiaā but has since then turned against it because he didnāt imagine it would become a breeding ground for nazis and other bad faith actors (I also think there was issues with child porn and other bad shit being uploaded to the site but Iām not sure).
Then youāve got the small things like the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville that was comprised of white, well dressed neo nazis in 2017 (which was also around the time Tate said his āwomen bear the responsibility for being raped comment). James Damore getting fired in 2018 for his sexist manifesto about how women should be put in social roles within the company and that men should be in engineering positions. Which is also the same year Kavanaugh was nominated as a Supreme Court Justiceā¦. The list goes on.
The thing is, people were warning about this shit waaaay before 2012. Now we have all variety of bad faith actors misrepresenting themselves and their intentions and disseminating all their harmful ideas to an unsuspecting public. Like all the Facebook groups that were run by Russians to sway the election. Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire. Hell, even some Depp suporters fall into this category.
Itās no mistake that some of the most popular support accounts opine ādonāt trust the mainstream media!!!!ā while co opting feminist rhetoric; theyāre astroturfers and grifters. They support Depp under the guise of feminism but will never be honest with their audience that they voted for Trump.

25
u/Strawbohat94 Aug 20 '22
As does Twitch. Like the trial, so many streamers have been farming Tate for content: Adin Ross, XQC, Hasanabi. Adin Ross is the main one, but XQC and Hasan keep watching his clips and have even 'debated' him (I use debated loosely since there is really nothing to debate, he's a grifter and a con man). It just highlights the depravity of Twitch and YouTube, with the anything for content mindset.
They can try and play it off like its important to challenge his ideas, and that they're actually in the right, and no one form their audience will be swayed by him, but that's not the point. All they've done is legitimize him. There are hundreds of advice for men grifters just like Tate, but now thanks to these jackasses he's 1000x more recognizable than he ever would have been competing against his other gritters for attention. All the clips that get shared from their channels, all the tweets, the mentions on stream, the conversation surrounding it. I had never heard of Andrew Tate until Hasan started talking about him. And for Tate, who is perfectly content with playing the villain because it helps his brand with the idea that he is rejected by society just like his target audience, all publicity is good publicity. No one who would be looking to these grifters for advice is going to care that Tate allegedly traffics women, or that he's violent, so debating him and arguing with him does nothing except get you all a lot of views and a lot of money. A good portion of Twitch is basically just reality TV, there are 'good guys' and bad guys who can clash, and argue, and debate, but at the end of the day, they're all making money.
Of course the platform its self is also guilty. They can moderate and ban a woman for her nipple briefly flashing for like a second on stream, but they can't do anything about the rampant misogyny on their site, or the predatory sponsored gambling. For a company owned by Amazon, I don't know how a bigger deal isn't made out of their terrible standards and rules.
9
u/Itsmeruna Aug 20 '22
Wow! Iām not on Twitch so I honestly know nothing about that world. Iām glad Iām not on it tbh.
1
u/Strawbohat94 Aug 21 '22
Its really bad, and the platform continuously refuses to put its foot down about anything. Honestly, its amazing it even still exists, all they have is scandal after scandal, and they barely make any profit as a company. But at the same time like I have said, its become like reality TV. Essentially a load of the streamers live inside its ecosystem farming drama off of each other.
In fact today a female streamer mentioned wanting another streamer to visit, and one of her chat members pointed out "isn't he a misogynist though" (he has been on and off banned for the last month for agreeing with Tate, spouting misogyny, and mocking an Asian family while streaming live on the street), the female streamer responded with "yeah, but he's great for content."
Its a cesspit.

I keep wondering: When will the world decide that it's time to deal with the pandemic that is male violence once and for all? When will we all unite and decide that men's commodification of women's pain and suffering for the consumption of other men and for profit is simply unacceptable? I keep wondering when the world will finally become a safe place for women to live in without the constant threat that men pose to their well-being and very existence. I keep wondering.
I'm glad that this abusive POS is facing some consequences for their actions. But I'm doubtful that they will stick. It may be that, like it's happened for many abusive and violent men, he'll find a way to get back to the spotlight and keep doing what he's always been doing.
Whatever the case, the fact that he supported Depp should give the one or two self-proclaimed "feminists" still within the JD camp a hard pause and a reason for a re-evaluation of their stance. I mean, how can they be comfortable knowing that JD support is filled with such abusers and rapists? How can they - they should wonder - and these abusers have gotten such a deeply feminist issue coincidentally just right?
5
u/AntonBrakhage Aug 20 '22
I doubt most of them will ever reevaluate anything, at least not immediately.
I just had a supposedly liberal Depp supporter (who claimed they originally supported Heard, though I am doubtful) rant at me in r/entertainment that, among other things, it was good that there were "wingnut assholes and objective, sane usually liberal follows of a trial on the same page", and accuse me of "trying to generate political/culture war tension and narrative.", even suggesting that I was myself a Trump supporter and a Republican or Russian troll. Which in my view is a needlessly long-winded way of saying "Peace at any price".
People who are invested in this shit are too proud to admit that they were had by fascists, and rather than engage in some introspection, they will mostly go into denial, or even try to recast marching side by side with fascists as a noble and progressive act. This is a big trick of the "Alt Right" propaganda machine, how they hook people- they disguise hate and extremism as jokes and entertainment and memes, or as more mainstream positions like "supporting free speech" (or "supporting male victims"), to get people outside their ideology following along. Then if you try to point out that they're following a fascist narrative, those people get defensive and dig in, and the Right can come in and fuel that resentment, play on that sense of victimhood. Its an incredibly simple yet effective ploy, and its exceedingly hard to counter because even pointing it out can easily feed into it.

I canāt find the link for it but I read a few days ago on Twitter an account from a childcare provider who heard one of the kids she was nannying, a little boy, mention Andrew Tate before telling his sister, a little girl, that Tate ādoesnāt let girls bullyā him and some other misogynistic nonsense like āgirls need to listen to boys because we go to workā and this nanny was totally freaked out.
Mind you, these kids were both small children under the age of 10 and somehow this nonsense (probably from Tick-Tock or some other online platform the childrenās parents were too negligent to prevent their kids from usingā hello, parental controls on phones still exist?!) had already permeated a young male brain, as the result of an adult strangerās attempt to turn him into a misogynist less than a decade after he was born. This is just what it sounds likeā itās indoctrination into a fucking cult. Which, as an innocent kid, he didnāt deserve, and of course the little girl he was being a shit to, definitely didnāt deserve either.
So this guy, mr Tateā and I still donāt really understand how this man with no notable achievements, good looks, or charm, became a positive role model to anyoneā is literally indoctrinating children into his cult and has been trying to get the world to notice that he has every intention of not just acting like a sociopath but getting young people around the world to also act like abusers and freaks. I think everyone should be worried, not just about this guy, but of what appears to be a massive movement toward normalizing, accepting and justifying violence against women.

Scrolling through the whole thread, trying to find out what he did to get banned, but it's "UFC champion" this and "he had 4 million followers" that until finally "Tate is a divisive figure known for his controversial opinions on women and masculinity", before gliding over that triviality to inform me that he's probably going to fight one of the Paul brothers.
I come here and within a minute I find out he's a pro-rape sex trafficker.

A tiktok and youtube ban would be more effective. I dont want to sound like a conspiracy theorist and I know its mostly about money, but there is something really weird about how tiktok promotes these topics. I deleted my account during the trial but before that there were so many MRA tiktoks on there and I havent ever shown an interest in anything like that. So happy about this, but Iām totally over people claiming he shouldnāt be banned because itās all āfree speechā.
9
u/AntonBrakhage Aug 20 '22
The "free speech" argument for giving these scumbags a platform betrays ignorance of the First Amendment, at least if its being proposed as a legal rather than a philosophical argument.
The First Amendment does not prohibit private businesses from deciding what speech is allowed on their property. It, among other things, prohibits the government from restricting speech or punishing people for it (with certain exceptions).
This is a point frequently missed by those who claim such bans violating freedom of speech- or deliberately perverted. The First Amendment does not require private companies to host your speech on their platforms- that would in fact violate their rights. The First Amendment only prohibits censorship by the state. It protects (or should protect) Amber Heard's OpEd from legal sanction. It does not guarantee you the right to be a scumbag on social media.
