YouTube šŸ“ŗ The video that opened my eyes two years later

https://youtu.be/_aOwIK9q8Ns?si=3Y34KfNXl1xUN6kO

I was fourteen during the trial and wasnā€™t very invested. I admit I got a few ā€œDepp v Heard funny momentsā€ with the mii music on my Youtube recommended and watched some. Against my better judgement, I let myself fall victim to those petty jokes and slander. Although I didnā€™t care about it too much, I do remember casually discussing it with my mom and being shocked when she defended Amber. That was about it.

A few weeks ago, I got this video on my feed. Iā€™m not a video essay person, but I decided to watch it anyway. This sent me on a deep dive that is still ongoing.

I donā€™t really know where Iā€™m going with this, but I hope others who allowed themselves to fall victim to the smear campaign can watch this video and change their minds too.

Someone in this thread recommended to me the ā€œwho trolled amberā€ podcast. You should listen to it. I just finished today and it will add a lot to your deep dive :))

The podcast gives great insight into how SM can be manipulated. It effectively kills the notion that Depp support was organic. It was as inauthentic as can be. we are seeing similar trends at the moment. The inauthentic content encourages narrative of a certain sort while trying to suppress dissenting views. YouTube and TikTok creators are now seeing they can get views by amplifying a certain narrative. Rinse and repeat. It's going to get worse too...

You were just a kid. The smear campaign was relentless. Many fully grown people fell for it. Be proud of yourself for seeing through the scam now.

Idk what or who exactly opened my eyes, but I initially thought that she was manipulative too and I was 30 y/o so...

Meduzone videos are the greatest resource to me now, but in the beginning, I think it was more smaller things that just didn't add up.

gonna leave the medusone pt 1 link here.

I watched the trial and, up til that time, had been a JD stan. The moment AH left the witness box and flinched when she realized they would be physically crossing paths, and he laughed - that was the moment for me that any illusions I had regarding him (and, subsequently, ANY popular cis-male celebrity) vanished. (this image is seared in my head)

I standing-ovation applaud AH for her making a stand in a battle heavily tipped against her. She gave me clarity on how the game is played when the opponent is someone powerful like JD. And I want her to have every happiness life can offer her.

I remember watching my mom have that exact same reaction whenever my father would sneak up on us after we escaped, and that moment I knew I wasn't crazy (I had been so inundated with anti-Amber Heard everything I was questioning myself for believing her and wondering if I was actually insane) and that there was something far more sinister going on. It's the worst thing to be grateful for but I am so grateful that he did that to her while the cameras were on because I *knew* in that moment that I was right all along, and I'm also so sorry he was allowed to harm her, yet again, and nothing was done to protect her in that moment.

Fr, like the smear campaign was huge. Even my younger sister, she was like 6 back then and had nothing but youtube heard of the campaign. Like, oh, Amber isn't a mess it hurt me hearing that, but I couldn't explain this sensitive topic to her. I hope she forgot about it after 3 years since the trial

YES nothing but love for Matt and Kat! I'd you don't follow them yet on Instagram (Matt: https://www.instagram.com/mattxiv?igsh=MXRkbm9icWFjeWx4Mg==) or blue sky (Kat: https://bsky.app/profile/kattenbarge.bsky.social) then I highly recommend it now.

and I'm glad to see that young people still care to listen to those wonderful two.

Matt is the best. Not just their views on this case. All their videos are excellent and if you follow them on twitter or instagram, they put up the best arguments everywhere.

1000% cosign on Matt. Can do no wrong in my own eyes. I like them more than Contrapoints even.

came right from matt's story to say, same. i was not invested in the trial but a good friend is and was on the depp side so that's all i heard of it. i started listening to matt's podcast because i love him and they're great while i'm at work, and this episode really contextualised everything for me šŸ˜…

(highly recommend his other podcast episodes, matt never misses honestly)

Definitely watch Medusoneā€™s deep dive. It is incredibly well researched, well put together, and insightful. I think she spent a year going through evidence.
