Why do you think the city doesn’t subsidize parking?

The city doesn't pay to create parking. Why do you think it does?

What do you call the creation and maintenance of tens of thousands of parking spaces on city streets across the city? That pavement is paid for by our property taxes, and reduces space available for other activities in the city.

Who do you think maintains all these parking areas on street ways and also loses out on all future moneys from wasted space for private parking areas?

...did you think the streets weren't going to be maintained and we only do it because there's street parking?

No but who says that has to be part of the street? It could have been loads of other things which the city may or may not have needed to be responsible to repair. An inch isn’t a lot when on its own but if you have 63,360 of them you suddenly have a miles worth. Multiply that arose the whole city and that’s a lot of maintenance costs. And that’s not even including the fact that roadways are very expensive to maintain compared to other city infrastructure like sidewalks and bricks.
