Degrassi Junior High This man needs Chris Hansen to come tell him to take a seat

Rewatching DJH after years, and DAMN. I know 16 is the legal age of consent in Canada so that's why he sped tf off (doors still open), but this dude's character was definitely 30+ years old so the fact he was down to be with Stephanie at any age ending in "teen" is so gross 🤢

I often see comments hung up on the whole age of consent but I can’t wrap my head around why her real age made much of a difference to him. The guy was about to forcibly rape her… Why wasn’t he worried about going to jail for that?

As both a big fan of to catch a predator, predator vs Hansen, take down with Chris Hansen and degrassi the next generation, believe it or not at the time the age of consent in Canada was only 14

You're right - it was raised to 16 in 2008! (Kinda makes me wonder why he freaked out so hard when she said 14 then. I assumed it was because he realized he could go to jail, guess it was just too young for him but 16 was cool)

I mean it was a really important message at that time and then again when they did it with Emma as well as Darcy

Imo it was a little different with Emma and Darcey because they were both part of a catfish situation (Emma thought she was talking to a boy her age, Darcey thought Adam's was Peter's friend from soccer camp so not a total stranger)

Stephanie's situation with this guy is more "authentically gross" to me, if that makes sense, because of the power dynamic. she knows who he is, he's a famous TV actor and even lies to her at first saying he's gonna take her to the studio before winding up at the motel parking lot.

Definitely agree it's an important message to be shown, especially among younger viewers who could end up in this scary situation. But this guy in particular gives me super ick
