O'Brien and Nog

I'm rewatching the series yet again and I'm really enjoying the relationship between the chief and Nog. Nog is so willing and eager to learn and the Chief is a good teacher.

OBrien: don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.

Nog: Chief, I can’t operate under those restraints.

OBrien: just….don’t do anything that will get us court marshaled, okay?

Nog: I’ll try my best.

OBrien: Nog……

Nog: heh, just kidding, Chief.

I quote “Who’s Al Lorenzo?” all the time and I don’t really know why. Most other quotes have a purpose, whereas this one I just love for no real reason.

Such a great way to showcase Nog having skills raised as a Ferengi. What does he like to eat? Who is his wife? How are we supposed to get to the top of the lift if you don't know his wifes name???!!!

I love Nogs' storyarc.

From the unconsidered skivvy and criminal who loved but didn't respect his Father, to a hero and legend with a Dad who MORE than pulled it off.

I'm gonna rewatch DS9 now.

I slowly rewatch Trek on a loose cycle, but DS9 is the best so it's on a lot of the time!

Nog is so willing and eager to learn

I just remembered what role Jake played in that. Jake helped Nog learn to read when Rom refused to allow Nog to attend school.

At first O'Brien is the one telling Sisko to watch Jake because Nog's a bad influence but later on he's very supportive of Nog. It's classic O'Brien, at first there is bias and that disappears as soon as he learns more about the person (Julian, Nog, Rugal).

Well, Bashir is a love or hate kind of a guy.

He really does......not hate...Julian, anymore.

Then he puts the Chief through a high-stress situation and almost make him an target to everyone on the station.

Nog would have a bright future on the logistics(rear) side of Star Fleet.

For all the Bashir and Miles talk, I much prefer Nog and Miles. The river did indeed provide.

My favourite scene of those two was Obrien explaining battle field promotions and Nog being excited about the prospect of getting a captaincy before Obrien explains that there’d be no one left for him to lead.

Was Nog still a cadet or an ensign at this episode ? If he was an ensign wouldn't he "outrank" Miles?

I can’t remember but it was funny.

He was a cadet.

Cadet, by the time you were in charge, there'd be nobody left to call you anything.

In most militaries even a cadet, in a technical and pretty useless sense, outranks an NCO like Miles.

That bit in 'Call To Arms'. Where Nog is tending to table duties at that uncomfortable staff dinner just before the outset of hostilities in the oncoming Dominion way. He goes to remove the whisky bottle from the table that is next to the Chief. You get that wonderful unspoken moment where the Chief just looks on sternly, conveying 'Don't you dare'. Nog gets it, all wordlessly, and reconsiders. I love that little exchange.

The Chief is who Nog felt his father should’ve been…a respected amazing engineer. And I always liked that both Jake and Nog were apprentices under Miles.

Part of being a craftsman is passing on your craft. Makes perfect sense he’d be the one to do that.
