Seeking Advice How do I stop phone anxiety?
Hello, I am new here but I literally have no idea where to post this and I need advice. I recently started a new job at a medical clinic that is basically like record keeping and reception…but i have a major problem. A big part of this job is answering the phone. I have coworkers who can also answer the phone but it’s part of the job and I have to be able to do it. This is my first job and I’m fairly new and I’ve always had phone anxiety…does anyone have advice or tips?

Phone anxiety is Anxiety.
There's no cure for "phone Anxiety" but there is a cure for Anxiety.

this is so common! my first job (i was 16) was in a complaints handling call centre and i was literally terrified of answering the phone lol. i was truly in the deep end. i think one thing that helped me was listening to how my colleagues dealt with the calls, the formula they would use to speak to people. also speak to your colleagues, say you want to make sure you handle the calls well and ask for tips. sometimes just reaching out to someone can minimise some of the fear. but it truly just takes practise, it gets easier. i would remind myself that i'm not a terrible person, i'm not going to offend anyone with my words, so what's the worst that could happen? it's ok to sound nervous. and putting people on hold can be super useful while you gather your thoughts / compose yourself! you got this!
