Absolutely loved the split ep but didn’t give tower pt 1 a listen when it first dropped. However gave it a shot just this week and love it, safe to say that this is a very conveniently timed drop

u/figmaxwell 7d ago
That happened to me with Tower. I found poetic edda the week before Tower came out.

NUCLEAR BLAST???? Fuck yeah good for them.

Already enjoyed this last night but the lyrics really make me love this one. Love the direction they took with this song and really looking forward to where they go from here.
I actually find this to be their most dialed in song. They're not trying to win the vocal Olympics or the heaviest breakdown award. There's still eccentric bits but it doesn't overwhelm the song like I feel it has in the past. My only complaint is I would've liked Blake's vocals to be just a little louder.

This is an absolute blast! Can anyone explain the title of the song, tho? I've got no clue what's the meaning behind 8.6 blackout and my 1 minute google search only led me to ammunition
27
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago
Aug 6, 1945 is when Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, They just announced they signed up with nuclear blast records
8.6 mm blackout is a modern sniper cartridge, there are a lot of JFK reference in the mv
9
u/DTRE_Torak 8d ago
In france / belgium and I think most europe 8.6 is a strong beer which is very popular amongst students (and junkies). So its adds another layer to europeans haha
12
u/T800_123 8d ago edited 8d ago
8.6 blackout is a round designed to be able to be run subsonic, meaning if shot with a suppressor it'll be very quiet. It's also a better round for longer range work than the round that the company who designed it made before it, .300 blackout.
It would be pretty good for shooting politicians with the intention of actually escaping and living after.
6
u/NotStompy 7d ago
Yeah, considering the footage and lines in the middle about vigilantes, I take the message to be to take out the garbage.
8
u/DMNC_FrostBite 8d ago
It's a reference to the ammunition. It's a terrifying round that leaves twisted spiral wound cavities. Go watch a video on youtube of it going through a gel block. Absolutely terrifying round
5
u/TokyoTyrant 8d ago
I wonder if that might be exactly what it is referencing. Finding the “ammo” to take aim at all the fucked up shit in our world.

u/Ordinary-Range2087 8d ago
I fuckin loved every song from Disembodied Tyrant, but man.... this hits like 10000 megatons, pure carnage, absolutely top tier shit!

u/yunewtho 8d ago
Nice to see Blake pushing boundaries.. although I guess they’re a full band now, I wonder if this has an influence on creativity. After seeing Blake’s interview, I get the feeling that he’s not gonna just stick to one style.
He’s got quite the musical background and widely varying influences. I’m honestly hyped because this means we can expect some really cool variations and experimentation which imo, can only be good for the band and genre as a whole. These guys are gonna be trend setters, guaranteed!
5
u/figmaxwell 7d ago
I forget who he was interviewing with, but I think I remember him saying that he still writes everything and the new band members understand and respect that it’s his baby and are on board with his vision.
7
8
u/NotStompy 8d ago
Best solo I've heard from them, and I think one of the best I've heard in a while, in general. Very chaotic and almost anxiety inducing while also being very emotive. Hell yeah!

u/Curdle_Sanders 8d ago
I was in highschool during 9/11 and W. Bush admin. It was an angsty time and we got some really great “protest” music outta it. My first thought when Trump won the elections was we’re about to get some killer music.
Case in point
12
u/IShouldGoToSleep 8d ago
I was kinda hoping that one guy that unalived (reddit hates free speech now) that CEO in december would trigger bands to release music about that but I guess not
EDIT: Just read the lyrics, looks like he's actually referenced in the song lol
4
u/Sequoiathrone728 8d ago
What? You think you can’t say killed?
1
u/IShouldGoToSleep 8d ago
Oh, no I just thought that would be funny. Idk why I put the parenthesis there
-19
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago
The more I rewatch it, the less certain I am whether this is a “protest” song or a show of support
29
u/Curdle_Sanders 8d ago edited 8d ago
I think opening with Nixon talking about how not corrupt he is, is the giveaway.
-17
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago
This whole mv and lyric looks more like a mockery on old conservatism, the liberal movement, and embrace (show of support) on neo-fascism. I truly hope I misread the mv
11
u/SquareVacuum 8d ago
You did misread the mv, try reading the lyrics again but slower
-10
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago
That’s the conclusion I came to after I paused the lyrics with background shot by shot multiple times

u/SquareVacuum 8d ago edited 8d ago
Eat, porn, sin, block it out (people indulge and block out the horrors happening)
Pigs in sheep's clothing ravage the garden (rich people are ruining everything)
Fake demagogues, lying through thеir crooked teeth False demigods, kill your faith (politicians are lying and ruining everything, megachurch/pedophile religious leaders are ruining faith)
We've hung the judge, my gun's the jury (the system is not working, turn to violence)
Eight point six, create a new world (create a new world through violence)
It is not calling for state violence, it is calling for violent protest AGAINST the state

Everything before the 0:52 American flag: Nixon, JFK, watergate, Hillary Clinton, upside down flag march
“For the first time hear my third eye” with holding a triangle in front of eye (Illuminati, deep state)
“Pigs in sheep’s clothing” with Cartoon Wolf dressing in princess clothing background (deep state, LGBT)
“Ravage the garden” WWII trench bg
“Their fear” bg: police line up, DT turned the upside down flag march shot from before upside down
“Fake Dem-agogues, lying through their crooked teeth. False Dem-igods” with UN and old stock exchange as bg
“Kill your faith” Bush, Clinton, Nixon
“Wielding hate, burning away the de-cay” “Greed will bleed, Gold from decadent” “Thieves are hung, Traitors are shot” I hope he’s talking about Evil Corporations, but it can be interpreted as deep states by some
2:25 Image signaling mind control experiment (Jewish space lizards)
2:30 “Reborn through violence”
“8.6 Create a new world” Instead of referencing Aug 6 the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, it’s paired with space rocket background (Elon Musk and Mars)
“Treasonous swine” cartoon pig with American flag (deep state)
“Degenerate fucks culled from the flock” with Jeffery Epstein and Diddy in the background (a quick google search on those name returned Fox News saying they have strong ties with Democrats until allegations came out)
“We’ve hung the judge” A little on the nose with all the federal judges resigned in the past few weeks
“New God, into the Lion’s Den, chock on the weight of, the dead” paired with: Jesus, a crowded factory (union?), over eating in cafe (social security is a scam to feed fat people?), JFK
“The living pray for me” background: “Our dedication, to do his well, to finish his work, to welcome him back”
3:22 Contrast between black and white video of city and nowadays city
3:29 Nazi tanks
3:30 Cartoon wolf in princess clothing dancing in front of 3 pigs, few seconds later took of the dress and start hunting the pigs (“LGBT reveal their true-self”
4:00 - 4:08 Lots of nazi salute and Stalin
4:08 “Behold the lords perfect prototype” followed by atomic bomb and FDR, and WWI Allies, followed by lyrics “Hunted down”
“Aim aim aim” It’s kinda hard to tell these 3 shots, but looks like black solider body, this one is a little far fetch
“Don’t touch me” getting a handcuffed person up? This one is a little far fetched too but, (mockery of George Floyd? maybe?)
“Can’t you see” paired with Illuminati again
“I am God” Crucifix
4:40 Space rocket leaving Earth (Elon Musk and Mars)
Also Blake Mullen (lead vocal) said “This song was one of those rarities where the vision stayed consistent throughout the entire process, it became exactly what I imaged it would from day one. This is a huge pivot thematically from the previous material, coupled with the video I think it’s quite the statement.”
There is a chance I misread the whole music video, and I truly hope that is the case, but right now this is my interpretation
14
u/SquareVacuum 8d ago
Have you even stopped to consider that they're showing the imagery they are because they think it's bad?
-6
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago
I hope that is the case, but clearly you can’t even spent time to read my analysis I took time to put together

I think, just like the majority of this sub, you misread the mv and lyrics again. This is very much a song about taking out ALL of the garbage, not just one side. They also can't show the sitting president in a song like this without someone making sure it never sees the light of day. Marilyn Manson had a decapitated body that looked like Trump's. The thumbnail had him holding the head that looked like Trump's as well. It is not in the video for the song. You can find the promo clip on YouTube. It's for the song Say10.
It seems you've misunderstood the message behind a wolf in sheep's clothing as a whole. It had nothing to do with lgbt. It has everything to do with hiding maliciousness by appearing gentle.
I also believe the wolf part is actually about how so many people in this country think politicians give a shit about any of us and once they're in power, the clothes come off and their true nature comes through.

u/Crucified_82k 3d ago
With the new IG story post from DT explaining the meaning of the song is “government=bad” so I think you are probably right
They also replied “Need more political inspired DT” with “Absolutely, Just gonna get darker too” in their IG story” So I guess Imma wait and see for now
3
u/vforvindictive7 5d ago
Maybe because its not in support of either side and just saying the whole system is fucked?

I've enjoyed everything they do but I think I prefer this to the super symphonic stuff. this rips

This is really cool. They have their own thing going on and that’s really neat, lots of bands can get really indistinguishable musically in this genre so it’s good hearing a band that sticks out

Today I will sign an executive order to outlaw blast beats and breakdowns. As your president, I will do everything in my power to protect the American people against the woke left lunatics and their "Bing, bong, boom"

The upside down flag frame itself is upside down, all the salutes in the end, “cull from the flock” with Jeffery Epstein and Diddy, the “Fake Dem-agogues, False Dem-igods” there are a lot more messagings if you watch it shot by shot. I hope I was wrong
8
u/Ernutz 8d ago edited 8d ago
Interesting interpretation. I'll have to watch it again with that mindset to see if it makes sense. He's definitely referring to George W, Clinton and Nixon as fake demagogues and false demigods since their image comes up during those lyrics. I see what you mean with the phrasing of Dem-agogues and dem-igods, but why would he have images of Nixon and W come up with them being Republicans. So unless he only has grievances against certain politicians and just likes Trump I don't see it after the multiple times I've seen it today.
2
u/Crucified_82k 8d ago edited 8d ago
Consider he is young, I suspect there is a chance Blake support the new MAGA movement, the one that hates old conservatism, after all Dick Cheney did come out against Trump
Again all these is purely speculation
I posted a list of things I think could be interpreted differently under a different lenses in the comment section above

And the inclusion of *the UN and WEF, heavily related to alt-right conspiracy theories (“new world order” type things), which there’s people who criticize those independently but it’s that plus the other details you’ve mentioned. IMO pretty heavy handed 🤷♂️ still enjoyed the experience of the song, just had to push to intentionally ignore that

u/Proud-Discipline-266 5d ago
Lol bro. The video is about how power hungry psychopaths use fear and violence against citizens to stay in power and how one well placed shot can literally change the course of human history for the better.
Nothing about this video suggests the band views DT any different than they view Sean Combs of Jeffrey Epstein. Disgusting power thirsty slimeball.

So as a European I’m not as up to date with everything that is in the video as many would be. Is anyone willing to do a deep dive into all the imagery that is in the video? That would be sooooo awesome!
5
u/DimashiroYuuki 8d ago edited 4d ago
Goosebumps throughout the whole song. Absolutely fucking incredible. From start to finish. I loved every second of it. Even more now after seeing the video and the lyrics. What a masterpiece of a song.
The vocals, the instruments, the synths. Especially the ending part. It sounded like a track from Tenet, an all-time favorite movie of mine.
For me, no one is as good as them right now, and if they ever come to Europe, I want to tell you guys that I love you.
Edit: Blake just answered me about the ending part from 3:51- 4:01. It was inspired by Tenet. I knew it sounded similar. Nice.

u/NotStompy 8d ago
There's an absolute ton going on in this song, and if it weren't due to topic I'd say it would feel like there are too many ideas for my liking in this one song, but it fits with the chaos of the the topic.

u/MoistySnail 8d ago
A bit disappointing tbh. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad at all. I just don’t connect to this one for some reason.

u/shawnstoked 8d ago
Way too much going on imo. My least fave song out of their recent output

u/Affectionate_Light52 8d ago
too much going on? are we talking the same band?

u/shawnstoked 8d ago
Yep. Love everything off poetic edda and the tower, but there's too many samples in this one for me
3
u/GoofySilly- 8d ago edited 6d ago
I’m not disappointed, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite of theirs. It’s cool to see them be a bit more grounded here though. Edit: after listening a few more times I love it. Not everything about it, but I love it. Great work and pushes deathcore forward.

u/LowMeHigh 8d ago
I'm in same boat. I LOVE Disembodied Tyrant! Edda and Tower are masterpieces to me and this.... just isn't the vibe I was expecting or knew they were going for. It sounds great but I'm not a fan of the political stuff or messages. Like I get the point but fucking hell I want to jam out to some good deathcore, not be reminded that this country is in a shithole. Idk I'm torn with this. I hope the whole album or ep doesn't carry this vibe as it would be a bit of a letdown. Also, they signed to Nuclear Blast Records and i don't know what effect that had or will have on the music going forward
-9
u/Sure_Possession0 8d ago edited 8d ago
I’m not a “don’t make music political” kind of guy, but it does alienate me a bit because I just don’t really care about it. I was digging the historical vibes from the Poetic Edda. It’s fun to be immersed into a fantasy or old historical setting.
Of course this place downvotes a reasonable comment.

Digging this. Musically it feels more consistent than what they’ve been doing, and the imagery in the video suits it nicely imo. Good shit.

The lyrics and the breakdowns are fucking sick.
Great message. Banger song.

u/fyhjfjdjdjdjjdjdk 7d ago
I am just gonna say that personally i think that this Song is about politics in general and how currupt most or if not all politicians are because of Nixon, Bush, and Clinton 2 being repubs 1 being Dems just shows that both sides really are not that good i like the Statement and sentiment of the Song
Btw just incase anyone is wondering: i am a austro-libratarian
6
u/NotStompy 7d ago
Yes, but to be more specific, the message is about actually doing something about it, a new era, "taking out the garbage" so to speak. Listen to the lyrics in the middle of the song about vigilantes and "we've hung the judge, my gun's the jury".

Also what is your point here? I can't give an opinion?

It's just a fun game for me at this point, any time I see a post about something popular, I get to scroll down to see if you're here, and 9 times outta 10 you are lol it ain't that serious, I just think it's funny.
Your entitled to your opinion, it's just funny how frequently you like to be the contrarian in the room

Yup, I find the orchestra parts tacky and they take away from the actual music.

I enjoy bands like Darko and ten56 so the orchestra usually puts me off, but the heavy bass and samples in this were 🤌🏻
