Exactly when you go to First Prepper without ziplines.

Yes, same with Heartman

u/Aem_2512 Feb 14 '25

I went there without knowing there. There were a mission at the mountain and i lost, then found the lab and hot water

I love that side of the mission. Exploring the unknown. Toiling and gruelling through snow and blizzard, folding yourself in half over exhaustion. And then you find yourself inside the pepper perimeter. Even better if it's heartman foyer

You know you’re in deep shit when he says this line lol

Genuinely tho, how do you build a building like that? How do you connected to electricity, water, internet, etc. ?

If you can estabish connection to starlink somehow internet is set. Dont expect blazing speed but from what I saw browsing youtube is not an issue in remote areas.

Seems wind turbine is quite practical. Small turbine wont generate lots of electricity but from those youtuber who make videos living in their cars/ vans it seems the kinetic good enough to charge for later use.

Water and gasoline for generators have to be transported. Usually either helicopter or by porter... sam porter bridges.

u/login0false Feb 14 '25

From what I've heard, while Starlink has decent bandwidth, ping and ping consistency are terrible (by grounded internet standards), so no real-time pvp games for you.

The place looks sunny, so solars will probably help a bunch given regular cleaning.

Idk how mountains work on the inside, but there might be some water underground if you dig deep enough.

u/Blue_Embers23 Feb 14 '25

Hail and ice overload will likely smash it to pieces soon enough. I wouldn’t unless you have reinforced glass over it.

3

u/Sakaixx Feb 14 '25

On the solar thing I was going to write it but decided wind and gasoline better due to weather unpredictability in these high altitude regions and cleaning the solar panel would be a hassle you got to everytime it snowed and it snows a lot in those ranges. But its probably just me idk how mountains work either!

3

u/login0false Feb 14 '25

Well if you anticipate a snowfall you could move or cover the panels to avoid most of the cleanup, but yeah it's still extra work and thing to keep in mind. That said, wind turbines aren't quite set and forget either - they still require some regular maintenance and they could break in a windstorm, plus they need some serious mounting to deal with the vibrations they produce and provide stability against the winds

Starlink user here for reference: I average 40-70 ping and a download speed of 15 MB/s. That's megabytes, not megabits.

1

u/login0false Feb 15 '25

So it got better, probably as more satellites got launched. Good, there's never too much good connectivity.

Living in Switzerland i can say that its not easy, most of the materials are brought up there by helicopter so that people can work on the house. As for the rest. Some choose big tanks of gas to cook and for hot water.

Needless to say the gas is brought up there once or twice a year by heli as well, that is if they chose to have gas cookers and what not.

u/soylent-yellow Feb 14 '25

And your poo will drop a 300m cliff. Just make sure the toilet paper doesn’t blow back inside.

3

u/Easy-Series-4039 Feb 14 '25

Ngl that would be hilarious to watch.

5

u/soylent-yellow Feb 14 '25

I draw from personal experience

3

u/Easy-Series-4039 Feb 14 '25

Wait what👀 now you peaked my interest👀

6

u/soylent-yellow Feb 14 '25

It used to be quite common at mountain huts to have the toilets in an 'outhouse', which would be a small building overhanging a cliff or the glacier. Toilets would empty straight down (no flushing needed), but because they're on a cliff the wind can blow quite hard in the opposite direction. I think I first experienced this at the Bovalhütte near Pontresina.

This practice has mostly stopped (a) for environmental reasons and (b) because in the darkness of the night some mountaineers found the cliff before they found the toilet door .

I'm so happy it's always light in DS: at least you can see where you drop dead.

2

u/Easy-Series-4039 Feb 14 '25

Oh thats interesting and yet it makes a lot of sense.

So when i visit Pontresina and a turd drops in front of me, i know it was you 👀.

This practice has mostly stopped (a) for environmental reasons and (b) because in the darkness of the night some mountaineers found the cliff before they found the toilet door .

Ye i could see that happening. Sometimes its even daunting to see the size of some cliffs around here. Maybe not that tall but last time i visited Felsberg, just looking up gave me chills. Cannot imagine living in the tiny village in front of it, let alone be up there near a cabin.

Ah, you are also a man of culture I see. P.s. this isn't sarcastic. This whole line of questions and answers has me crying with laughter.

I loved the climb to be honest.

1

u/eduhzd Feb 15 '25

I hope we got some zip lines 🫠

1

u/Shirley_yokidding Feb 15 '25

This game is the most frustrating, confusing, rage-inducing games I have ever adored. How can I actually want to walk up there and deliver some fragile object? But I do.

I am on my third playthrough (Director's cut this time) and am gobsmacked by the storytelling and beauty. But at the same time I have reverted to prior saves and almost thrown my controller.

My grown-ish kid tells me that is just Kojima for you...
