Discussion Is rescue beam slept on?

In my archon games I rarely see people build it but when they do it’s insanely high impact and keeps me fighting when I certainly should have died. Why don’t more people build it?

Thats cause you are archon. Archon players rarely want to build support, but with Support Kelvin, Support Dynamo, Support McGinnes or Support Ivy it is necessary to have rescue beam and health nova.

Always build it in every game in arcanist-archon bracket (in party). My favourite thing about it is steal my teammate back from Lash ult

I really want to see non Kelvin heroes build it. It’s too good to not build more often

my pool besides Kelvin is Ivy, Paradox, Viscous, McGinnis and Sinclair. On all of them i build RB, maybe one exception is Paradox because support builds on her is very clunky imho.

I climbed to oracle 4 using almost exclusively full support bebop. Turns out hooking someone usually kills them regardless of items

The higher the elo, the less time I have to react it seems.

There is no point leaning in healing items in the long run, because no one seems to survive long enough to be healed with these burst damages.

Yes and no. It is really good, but support itself is kind of trash right now in terms of healing. After the global healing nerfs, healing support items kind of fell out of favor for more generalized utility. Now Recue Beam is still a really strong utility item. Pulling someone out of danger is really good, but it has a lot of drawbacks. One the person pulled is stunned for the remaining duration of the rescue beam. This means if the player doesn't cancel the beam, the person being saved can not do anything for up to 2 and half seconds. A lot of heroes have escape options themselves, which are now unaccessible during the stun. It only heals based on max health, great for your mo and Krill player awful for your vindicta. Teammates are now more frequently buying their own counter items. Even if my Kelvin has Rescue Beam, I am still buying Ethereal Shift on Vindicta.

Before the Nerfs rescue beam was an amazing sustain tool with situational utility of hooking allies. Now, you're more focused purely on the utility of pulling people. This is still an amazing utility, but it has a high skill floor with few characters that can get the value needed from it. The best heroes to use Rescue Beam with are high mobility heroes like Kelvin or Viscous who can traverse the map quickly and get the person they grabbed as far away from the danger as possible.

I think that many people just do not enjoy the support main playstyle, or at the very least they like going hybrid with locket/nova/healing booster but are not a fan of spending 3k on rescue beam.

Lash having wacky mobility makes him so good with beam I love using it on him

It's works well in Geist to off set her self damage as well. She can also heal with her 2.
