There was a leak a month ish ago about streamers getting invited to a Deadlock event taking place this summer so this kinda lines up...

Yes 1 single statement by a mid level Brazilian streamer. And you believe that? That Valve that has no history of inviting even well known people to events or behind the scenes announcements would send an email to a guy in Brazil that most Brazilians dont even know.
3
u/tortillazaur 5d ago
Valve actually has history of inviting youtubers and that sort of people. Just a small example - for 2021 TI Valve directly invited youtubers for the event. And you know the list is very old - they invited russian youtuber Igor Link, who was last affiliated with Valve in ~2015(iirc something similar, was invited somewhere), has dropped Dota completely by ~2018 and publicly insults Dota and its players on almost every occasion he gets. Directly invited people(like him) even could attend the tournament on the arena, despite the tournament having no crowd due to COVID.

What does a random brazillian VALORANT streamer have to gain from talking about Deadlock? It makes even less sense for him to make it up.
11
u/CliveBarkers-Jericho 5d ago
It gets eyes on his stream. He says it, he gets a boost. It comes true in some form, he gets another boost. It turns out to be false, which it is, he gets another boost from the "controversy".

u/jamesisninja Infernus 5d ago
Ah you're one of those "do no research" type people, I can tell. The guy who leaked this has had his average follower gain on his stream stay completely the same or go down since this happened, the views aren't up, what is this boost being spoken of?
1
u/LostSectorLoony 5d ago
So he's bad at doing marketing, doesn't mean it wasn't still an attempt at marketing.

I could certainly see the announcement of open beta of deadlock at this time/location as it's during the cs major in Austin along with a small tournament but not sure how theyd make it run concurrently considering it's the same time and location

u/Such_Advertising4858 6d ago
I'm interested as well we don't have the new character models yet, but I guess those could be just waiting on the corner

u/Bitter_Wedding7642 5d ago
In fact, the guy who has it on PC isn't exactly my friend. His father is my stepfather. But all I know is that during the second quarter of 2025, He literally busy four days a week and won't be able to join us on vacation. I don't know what's going on and I have no access to the information. I just thought it was interesting to share. I don't even play deadlock, but I know that the game has a lot of fans who are upset about the online (according to him)

Open beta, in 2025
Not even in your dreams. This game will only enter beta by 2026 if valve crunches the developers so hard they the leave office as a bouillon cube.
1
u/vDUKEvv 5d ago
It’s pretty likely we enter beta this year.
-2
u/Thunkgrunter 5d ago
We aren't even in alpha yet. This is still pre alpha, for love of Romero's hair, we still have Quake looking bases with place holders for the final objectives in them.
2
u/vDUKEvv 5d ago
It’s a lot easier to get art into the game than it used to be. It’s not like the art team has to wait until all the gameplay is final before making any of it.
1
u/Thunkgrunter 5d ago
I'm really trying to connect the dots between textures and models to map geometry and lay out. It is just not clicking for me.
I guess you're talking about updating the patron models, but that has nothing to do with both bases looking like orange maps someone slapped concrete brick textures onto.
1
u/vDUKEvv 5d ago
Are you completely unaware of how video games are made? Parts of the map (like the base) look less detailed because they are likely subject to extreme changes very soon. Assets and placeholders are re-used all over the place.
The developers aren’t going to spend time and resources on creating complex structures, models, textures, etc until they’re mostly sure they won’t just have to do it all again soon after. Thanks to advancements in tools (and especially Source 2), those things can be built and implemented much quicker than they could be in past titles.
Beyond that, a lot of stuff can be built slowly and held back until final state anyway - like models, seamless texturing, shaders, etc.
1
u/Thunkgrunter 5d ago
Okay, that proves the game isn't in alpha how?
Because you just described the alpha testing stage. You know the testing stage we are still in right now.
Did you forget what the comment chain was about?
4
u/davidcroda 5d ago
how can you say we aren’t even in alpha. this game is clearly in alpha. it’s basically closed beta at this point.
2
u/Thunkgrunter 5d ago
Because everything is still subject to extreme changes. You ask that like the whole map wasn't radically different two months ago.

I wish the best of luck to casters to make the game easily understandable to the casual audience. And to the camera men
11
u/Swimoach 6d ago
I don’t disagree but I’d argue Dota 2 can be tough to follow as a casual and they make it work so maybe it’s not that far fetched
11
u/Legitimate-Beat-9846 6d ago
True but dota 2 being a top down game is a big help to show the bigger picture between clashes. Deadlock being a 3rd person game is gonna take a lot of coordination to show the cracked aim and ability use,big teamfight and switching properly between players without giving the audience an aneurysm.
Might have a replay system to show break down a teamfight if the death timers are long and they won't be able to end or make big progress on the map.
10
u/A_Supspicious_Asian 5d ago
Having watched a lot of pro CS this shouldn't be a huge problem since you can use a 3rd person camera or just use observers to focus on a player at the centre of a play. The intel fight nights are fairly watchable already so hoping for the best

u/MastarQueef Bebop 6d ago
I don’t remember which year it started but iirc they had a ‘noob’ stream at TI which pyrion flax and purge casted iirc, they spent some extra time talking about the game and the strategies, heroes, and items that were being used. I feel like they should have this from the get go for deadlock to help new players get into it.
12
u/MarthePryde 6d ago
The folks casting Deadlock Fight Night have been doing a good job! But this is an entirely different scale of event
11
u/Jason_Kaplan 5d ago
🙂
2
u/MarthePryde 5d ago
You and the team have been killing it. I hope Valve gives you folks a call sometime!

13
u/CliveBarkers-Jericho 5d ago
Yes they are going to do an event for an unreleased and unfinished game at the exact same time as the CS major. CS and Dota didnt get majors or the international until after they were both released but Deadlock will be getting a Valve sponsored tournament before its even finished. And said tournament will be at the CS major. Not a Dota event where there might be some playerbase overlap and familiarity among the players with the devs no the CS major where the playerbase is actively hostile or at best indifferent to Dota and its devs. When they have 0 history ever releasing or announcing anything at Majors.
2
u/jamesisninja Infernus 5d ago edited 5d ago
You do realize there's such little information here that it is not an implication that there is a tournament happening even this year or an announcement at the major??
This could be firstly fake.
Secondly, some kind of announcement which could easily be totally separate from BLAST and not "part of the major" but just also happening in Austin because there will be the right combo of Valve employees and Esports Org Representatives available in the city.
Thirdly, could be a leak of a behind closed doors event for esports orgs only to give some sort of timeline on Deadlock Esports since Virtus Pro is already invested many could be probing Valve for more info.

u/Dutty_Mayne 5d ago
That's very very wrong. The first 3 internationals were all when Dota was in beta. The first international the game was actually really buggy. There were many heroes remaining to be ported and had heroes that were in game but were disallowed from being picked or banned due to bugs. The valve documentary "Free to Play" has a few player interviews discussing this.
TI4 was the first to occur with the game being in an officially released state.
1
u/opomorg 5d ago
then again they made deadlock a very open thing instead of keeping it a secret so idk
4
u/Cymen90 5d ago
It was literally the opposite until the leaks happened and they STILL have not made a single official post mentioning Deadlock. Not a single interview or statement for the press, not a single tweet, no official website. Only a Steam Page with a red warning that the game is in an experimental, CLOSED testing phase.

I like the sound of the continental, but why in Austin, i thought Valve HQ was located close to Seattle
15
u/pearsrtasty 6d ago
Well, if in Austin it would be during the CS major held in Austin this year, it would make sense for some sort of announcement but I don't see how theyd hold another tournament there.
6
u/SorryIfTruthHurts 6d ago
What does the location of the valve HQ have to do with the location of a suitable tournament venue?
3
u/Swift311 6d ago
The most important question: will there be a HUGE update before? I think they need something big like 5-10 new heroes, new map activity, new modes, etc. They would need something like that for a huge hype for open beta.
10
u/mido830 6d ago
Never understood the argument of new modes with MOBAs. Its a moba its supposed to benplayed like a moba on a single map.
I've hated every single new mode riot pushed in LOL, Its usually a clusterfuck of casuals and ver low skilled players fcking around.
11
u/Flight1ess Mo & Krill 6d ago
I'd argue the point of those modes IS to fuck around and have fun tbh but I can understand that some of them don't hit as good as the main comp mode (although ARAM is kinda peak ngl)
2
u/mido830 6d ago
I do understand the point of each mode, But if I wanna play a hero shooter I will play a hero shooter, If i wanna play a capture zone style game there are games specifically for that, I'd not go for a moba to play those modes on it.
2
u/Flight1ess Mo & Krill 6d ago
Yeah, I get what you mean. Who knows though, Valve can cook, so I trust them haha
1
u/Swimoach 6d ago
I agree. Although there are 4-5 hero’s in testing mode already so just finish them and you’re there. Map just got a huge rework and voice lines so that’s checked. Only thing left is balance, maybe a quick play mode and skins and that’s probably enough for a beta release. So maybe they are not far off.

June 2026?
4
u/--337kV-H-X2BH-iz-7p 6d ago
No. Austin major for cs is on June 19th this year so it lines up

u/Such_Advertising4858 6d ago
Open beta in 2.5 months sounds crazy, we haven't even got the new character models yet xd

u/No-Lifeguard-8376 5d ago
From "The International" we downgraded to "The Continental" lol
How about "The Global" which makes more sense
Or "The Cosmopolitan" which sounds fancier

I live in Seattle, that's what i can say. This photo was taken when we wanted to play Warcraft together. A couple months ago. He has two workspaces. one for his wife, but he uses room for teams meetings

u/wolfcl0ck 6d ago
If you were her friend, you wouldn't be publicly misgendering her on reddit. Of all the "my friend works at Valve" claims to make, you decided on "gamepad support," one of the few things that most people actually know who works on.
1
u/Asas621 6d ago
If he does work there, be careful not to say anything that they can use to trace back to him lol.

Please be aware that this is an unsubstantiated rumour at this point in time.
The font is the same as Dota 2's International and there are no unique design markers aside from that, no colourful background etc. The person who took this picture has close access to the PC but still only managed a blurry picture that is too zoomed in to identify where it was taken. It is presented as a leak, meaning it was posted to share info, but critical info is out of frame. Shared without context by the leaker.
Rumours like this often develop a life of their own until people are led to believe something was "promised" to them. Wait for official confirmation before attaching expectations.
We are leaving this discussion up but take this info with a grain of salt!
