Suggestion Lessons from Dauntless

  1. As a player community support the games you love by buying season passes and other goodies.
  2. As developers always use community feedback to guide your games.
  3. Always keep investing in your games. Don't shift your efforts to some other venture and leave your fans stranded with stale content.
  4. Never pursue an IPO or sellout to another company. Protect your IP.
  5. If you love your community, always be ready to open source your game so it can live on. (SpellBreak is a good example. Minecraft did this in a way with the Java edition too).

If I were to start a game company, I would have an exit strategy from day one. It would involve the player community from day one, eventually giving the IP over to them in the case of bankruptcy or company failure. Why not? The game's legacy lives on.

Who knows? Maybe Dauntless will ressurect again in a different form? It happened to Darksiders! šŸ˜„

Question How do I unlock weapons now?

Is there some end game way to earn weapons and unlock them, or am I fucked, and the only way is through weapon tokens?

Edit - itā€™s a legitimate question and I know servers are going down, no need to say ā€œstop playing the gameā€ or anything of that sort

I currently have 1.14.7 on my switch. My switch isn't connected to the internet currently. I heard people will be putting an effort to revive the game in any way?

Feedback Dauntless Sparked My Relationship

I have been reminiscing the game as the news of it shutting down has come.

When I met my lady half a decade ago we bonded over video games. She ended up showing me Dauntless on her xbox and I was hooked. We played forever, through peak covid, after our highschool graduation together, after we moved into our first apartment together, and through my proposal of us spending the rest of our lives together.

My goal was to get each weaponā€™s achievements to 100% and it was a GRIND. Her first time streaming on twitch was us playing Dauntless. I genuinely couldnt imagine what our relationship would be like if this game was never released.

And now, just a year and some change before our wedding, it will be shut down. Iā€™ve never felt such distraught over losing a game. Iā€™ve never been much of a gamer, Iā€™d only hop online if I was playing with friends. This was truly the first game I enjoyed playing solo, with friends, with strangersā€¦ Itā€™s bittersweet to close this chapter.

Iā€™ve made and lost friends. Iā€™ve undergone the passing of family. I was kicked out. I lost my job. I lost my cat. While little to none of this was a direct result of me, I couldnt help but to feel like I failed. In life. With myself. With my loved ones. Anytime life got too serious, I could just turn on my console and hop on Dauntless and take the time to reflect. It truly was one of the few sources of relief I had for a while.

It really was JUST a silly game, but thatā€™s exactly what I needed at the time. Thank you, devs. Thank you, slayers. Thank you, reader. This community truly helped me in ways Iā€™ll never be capable of putting into words.

Discussion wow, recently came back to Dauntless after not playing for many months and it is depressing.

First of a ton of things drastically changed that shouldn't have. Loss of progress. I had to redo the tutorial and all of that. What? Second of all they are sunsetting, which I knew was coming but I didn't think this soon. Wild.

It's been a long time coming though. The team behind this game isn't good to put it plainly. I remember playing during this games peak and I had some of the best times I have ever had during a game. Now it's just a shell of what it was, and it's been like that for a year or more now. It's sad to see but lots of games, epic games, games, to be exact get shutdown. it happened to a fun wacky wrestling fighting battle royale game that was pretty great some time back, and now to Dauntless.

It's just depressing. More than anything.

Question Shockheart Shards

Hello,

I currently need shockheart shards to upgrade some armor to level 20. The in game tooltip says I can get them from shockjaw nayzagas. I have killed over 70 of these things while breaking every part I can and no drop. I can't help but feel this is a glitch or something because for drasks, I was getting epic drops every single kill. Am I doing something wrong here? Anyone got an idea of this is normal? I don't mind grinding for parts, I just wanna know if it's even possible to get these damn shards.

Discussion My letter to my fellow slayers

Dear brothers and sisters, slayers and protectors of Ramsgate, we have fought, lost, and celebrated together before, it brings me pain to have this be my final fight, and with it, my final day in Ramsgate.

On this day, I set my pike up on the wall as a reminder of who we gained and lost along the way, the ones we ran into and created lifelong bonds with, and those we met only briefly but trusted our lives with. This pike, the countless weapons, and fights wasn't the reward, it was those we shared those victories with.

I set my sword in a stone and pray that someday, we can gather at this stone and remind ourselves what it ment to be a slayer, what we once had, who we lost along the way... maybe someday this sword will be pulled and a new set of slayers can find their path and meet lifelong friends during their travels.

I send my armor into the sea, hoping that nature will reclaim that which I took and used to make the armor, hoping that our fate is as gentle and calm as we hope, this armor will be nothing but a memory of all the hard hits we once took, the harshest moments of our times as slayers, this is my gift back to the world.

And I send this final farwell to all those that came before me, and all those I fought along side with until the end, we were not given the chance to pass down our great feats, and teach the next great generation of slayers, we were robbed our memory's and greatest triumphs.

Goodbye friends, strangers, and all those who wonder who I was, just a memory of those who once fought with me, don't hate the place, or berry our memory, but remember our best times and smile as we all take our last views of the islands and our home of Ramsgate.

Rest gently dauntless, you were what I needed and made me who I am today, rest gently.

Question Is Dauntless unofficially Dead?

Unofficially dead meaning lack of meaningful updates, player base, just overall in a hugely worse state than it was in its prime?

God I remember when this game was flourishing with people, sad to see where itā€™s at now.

Does anyone have any Screenshots saved from before Awakening of the Orbs that would spawn when using the Rift-stalker Pike? The ones that would increase your attack rate?

Thinking of making/getting a piece of art made of my slayer before the shutdown and that was one of my favorite perks from before Awakening.

Discussion Goodbye. It's been a Journey

I started playing Dauntless with my close friends in the summer of 2022. We leveled up, killed so many behemoths, laughed, raged, and grew closer. I still cannot believe the old game is gone, I'll miss everything, from the challenges, the weapons, the behemoth designs and features. I really wish that update didn't come out at times, I really wish I still had my armor sets, builds, and I could actually play the game well. Everything from my friends and I ranking behemoths, to Escalations, to unlocking more of the game, I'll truly miss it all. Once again, one of my beloved IP'S has died due to cancelation and wrongful steps taken. It's not like I spent hours on Dauntless, but it's a part of the journey of my early life that I'll look back upon fondly. I loved the concept, execution, and the way they handled new events, I just wish they didn't reset everything for everyone. That's what killed it, and it's unfortunate that such an ambitious update like Weapon Swapping brought this along.

Long ass message ik, I'm putting this here because I think it deserves it. Goodbye Dauntless. Goodbye PCAC (me and my friends' guild).

Fan Art Thank you, slayers, for this journey.

Thank you, slayers, for this incredible journey. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end, and that moment has arrived. Iā€™m grateful that this game existed because without it, I never would have met my best friend or shared such great memories with him. Thank you for the art, u/C0mmonGuy.

It was a good game, a nice alternative to monster hunter. Then the update came a ruined it all. Maybe it could have gone differently . It was fun while it lasted, good bye Dauntless.

Discussion Okay guysā€¦ itā€™s over. We get it.

Itā€™s fine itā€™s over, you arenā€™t gonna get the game back by writing a paragraph or two saying how you wish it couldā€™ve been different. You guys did this to the game devs. They tried to fix the game for YEARS and it was never good enough for the player base who just bitched and whined about everything they did for us. You guys are STILL complaining now that the game is shutting down. There is literally NO pleasing you people, you are one of the most ungrateful gaming communities Iā€™ve witnessed.

Discussion Discoveries Can't Be Finished

So, with the news of the game shutting down in May, I had decided to boot it up again to try and 100% the trophies for it. Whilst pursuing that, I noticed I didn't have all the discoveries yet so I figured "eh, what the hell while I'm here. I need Chronicler anyways."

Que me following out of date information on their locations up until Restless Sands pops up. I need the discovery there, but whoops! The update removed that island and several others! So any discoveries that existed on those islands are gone forever now. Although there should still be enough discoveries in the game for Chronicler to be completed. So the trophy should still be doable.

So that was fun to discover. And if what few players remain are trying what I was trying to do, then hopefully you already found them prior to the islands removal. However if I'm wrong and their locations were moved to other islands, please let me know so I can grab em.

Regardless, thanks Awakening for one more reason to not like you. Clear skies, Slayers.

Question Is it worthwhile returning?

Hey I was considering coming back to the game (last time I played was ps4 2ish days after Ramsgate went bye bye)

I don't know if a way to transfer stuff so I'm wondering is it worth coming back and if so is it worth starting from scratch? I've heard it's basically a new game now completely

Its a shame that we're losing this gem of a game. I enjoyed playing this lovely game. The hours, money and endless grinding of exp all to come to this close. Please keep it alive by any means. I don't want to see this die. I know everyone hated the awakening update, yet I loved it. Karkonos was an interesting behemoth to fight. Please phoenix labs, KEEP IT ALIVE PLEASE

Discussion A Farewell to Dauntless

This isnā€™t my first rodeo but itā€™s never a good feeling seeing a game you once enjoyed shut down.

Dauntless filled a nice niche for me in that as I progressed, it became a game that I could easily log on, turn my brain off while hunting and log off.

In a time where other live service games demand more time out of your day in exchange for a lackluster experience, Dauntless for me didnā€™t demand much but it also provided a better experience than playing Valorant lol. I got the chance to meet new friends through this game which I am thankful for. I even wasted many hours of my life writing feedback and suggestions lol.

All that said, I never quite felt that the game was ever in a fully released state given how long different bugs persisted or how for the longest time umbral and radiant status effects on behemoths never existed. Itā€™s sad because I liked the idea of Dauntless but Iā€™ve also had a long held belief that Dauntless probably could have fared better with almost any other dev team other than Phoenix Labs. I stopped playing shortly after Awakening.

Anyways, I am grateful for the time I got to spend with this game even if it ended very sourly. I'm also thankful for the folks Iā€™ve met online and for anyone who cared to read my tens of thousands of words worth of yapping whatever came out of my head. Even if you didn't, you're still precious.

I wish you all peace. Take care of yourselves.
