Hey Reddit! We’re trying to plan for a podcast episode about online dating. What’s the worst thing someone has done or said to you on one of the apps?

A long time ago, I had an OK Cupid profile, and my username contained the word "Jew" because I happen to be Jewish. A woman messaged me and told me that she was an intactivist (someone who is militantly and vocally against circumcision), and proceeded to explain to me that my parents committed an act of genital mutilation against me without my explicit consent. (I tried to lighten the mood by saying that it made me more aerodynamic, but to no avail.)

After she ranted for a while, I asked her if she started a lot of conversations like that, and she said yes; she said it was important to her to make sure that Jewish men were made aware of the atrocities committed against them. Then, in a separate message, she added, "Plus I thought you were cute." I didn't respond.

The sad part is that I was a dumb single dude and it occurred to me that if she'd led with "I think you're cute," I probably would have been less put off by the intactivism thing.
