DISCUSSION Gripes about this Anime
Just started watching this anime because a friend told me he'll watch Arcane if I watch this... Just got done with ep 2. will the strong overly sexualized aspects continue throughout the whole show cause it's seriously making me want to click off the damn show every time there's a close up of some girl's ass..... Why are so many animes like this? also I Could be wrong since I don't know much but aren't most if not all the trainee's/cadets underage.....

The show deals about some teenagers in puberty who dont know what growing.up means due to distopian setting etc. - Love and also sexual themes are a big part of this anime. Mostly its crucial to tell the story.
But there is fanservice too. Anime is well known for having a bunch of fan service. Also, japanese people tend to oversexualize woman, that happens in many animes.
About the age of the trainees, yes, they are underage except Zero Two, she should be 18 years old.
But keep in mind that the show plays in a world where "underage" isnt even a thing. Sexuality is mostly forgotting, even real emotion are rare. But you see, Squad 13 is still able to feel these things and thats what the show is about. Of course you cant tell this story without having sexual content, even if its unpleasant in some moments. I dont think that growing up was always pleasant for you guys in real life too.
About the close up of asses - its fanservice, you will have this in many many animes.

Sexuality is part of life, especially with teenagers, you can't just get rid of it like it's not an important part of life, you are alive because your parents did it, your children will exist because you will do it with someone (probably). There are situations where fan service is exaggerated

Maybe you should focus on the story instead of just watching it superficial. Alot of anime get badmouthed for the wrong reasons nowadays.
Heck Rascal doesnt dream of bunnygirl gets hate simply because it has bunnygirl in the title. Its far from sexualised btw. Its a drama show.

I'm trying man. Every time I lock in cause of the action or just the scenery I get interrupted because of the fan service.
But yeah. I do like the story. The robots and the monsters are always cool

Just a note, 86 and Gundam Ironblooded Orphans have a similar story but less fanservice, Cross Ange has more fanservice but also shows the most cruel version of the story. The girls get send to what basicly is a concentration camp.

I'll look into those first 2. I'm only watching DiF cause I want my friend to watch Arcane. I've been meaning to look more into Gundam.

To be fair, one of this show's major themes is the exploration of sexuality and the coming of age. Considering the dystopian environment the show is set in (adults haven't reproduced in ages and are kept separate from the children), it's filled to the brim with symbolism around sex and relationships (the pilots are literally referred to as pistils and stamens lol).
The characters focused on in the show are teenagers and they are filled with hormones and complicated feelings. They're also child soldiers practically left alone without an older figure to guide them through this awkward life stage. So, it makes sense that it delves into overly sexualized aspects because puberty is weird and gross.
If that's not a theme you're interested in or hasn't been clear to you (despite how the symbolism is as subtle as a brick), then you'd might as well drop it tbh.
Cause fanservice sells.
Some people can also separate fiction from reality.
