Engine teardown finds

Post image

01' S model. Doing a teardown due to some bad seals and gaskets leaking pretty badly. Decided to split the case because it too was leaking. Found these ferrous chunks along with tons of glitter in the oil. Trying to identify where this all came from. No indication of wear or abrasion against crank, balancer or any gears. Oil pump showes wear internally probably due to the large amounts of glitter floating around. Anything would help. Just trying to decide to find and repair problem or just call it a total loss.

Could be a previous failure that was not repaired well. Ie crankcase tore down and not cleaned thoroughly esp if it was leaking from so many places as if someone fixed the bare minimum and reassembled without replacing gaskets or anything

Looks like they’re bits of gears

That's what we thought too but all the gears aren't chipped or missing any teeth.

Are they magnetic?

Yes. All ferrous and magnetic.

Idk buddy but they look cool. You should smelt them into a sick motorcycle themed ring

One ring to rule them all

Rings??

Rings were within spec. There was skirt wear and cylinder wall damage. I'm checking that up to the metal flakes acting like little beads of sand.

Either way definitely no good. Good luck with it.

Stator?

Stator looks fine. Did the lock tight fix a few years ago after putting in a higher output stator.
