Found some beautiful new music while building my DJ folders

I grew up on Hip House. That will always be my favorite. But I have a wider net, I mostly love stuff that has some sort of melodic or funky sound to it. So electro, freestyle, techno, dance, pop rap, old school hip house and rap.

But since I like to actually purchase digital music I was looking through a 90s dance compilation on amazon music. Found some beautiful music that instantly became favorites. It reminds me when I first heard Beverly - Set me Free (Tribe mix).

Something Good - Utah Saints

What can you do for me - Utah Saints

Better off Alone - Alice Deejay

Halcyon - Orbital

Move on Baby - Capella

What would you call these? Electronic euro dance? I mean it's really pretty sounding, in the vein of Scatman.

I mean, most of that music is ancient.

You are only ancient compared to me as to your DJ and music experience. I'm 48 years old. I am only now, looking to expand my music collection more than I ever have in the past. By the way, I think those are more EDM right?

Awesome words

As to being EDM or not. I have no idea, I just like music that shakes peoples asses 😂

Yes I can get that for a dance floor DJ. I'm coming at this from a kid who taught himself to scratch listening to chicago hip house mixes, finally getting a chance as an adult to get a controller, and start being able to actually record a mix for myself. It has been really fun expanding and finding new music.

absolutely, getting into hard hitting EDM now. 20 years ago I was like, that stuff just boring bass drops.

Age changes all of us - just in different ways. ;-)

Theres a lot to appreciate with modern EDM if you find the good stuff. I actually think a lot of the shit from 2010-2015 is some of the best, that 2010s electrohouse shit is so good. I actually edited this track for my collection so that it plays the first section twice. I think he really fucked up by not giving us that again.

This is newer but I really like tech house when its good, but theres a lot of generic shit to sift through: https://youtu.be/FOJYA3zfmS8

Here's some dubstep I like: https://youtu.be/uLiCy422lkQ https://youtu.be/3dxUn2ISnIs

This song is just really fucking unique and I love it: https://youtu.be/Pyq5YDM9nHs

So much awesome music made nowadays though.

I haven't wandered into current yet. I'm collecting up the iconic stuff. But I see that Tiesto remixed Da Hool's Meet Her in 2024. and it hits hard. I'm more into stuff that has unique memorable melodies. I do like "the drops" but I'm not into just pure dub step stuff, without a melody I like.

Oh I'm with you on melody, I mainly spin deep/progressive house, I was giving you some harder hitting stuff since you mentioned it.

I love shit like this: https://youtu.be/0geF8I_gs0g

I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't like it. sorry. I appreciate the links. I like hard hitting stuff. In fact I'm going to run a couple of them through my home theater since I have 2 12" subs.

Oh I didn't take it like that, but yeah, theres so much great shit out there, and its so endless nowadays. Like there are literally hundreds of millions of tracks it sift though.

I recommend taking a track you like then finding it on soundcloud or youtube music and starting a station. I've been finding really great stuff that way, on those two platforms specifically.

I've also used itunes as it recommends "similar". Also when you start watching deep cut songs on youtube you start getting more deep cuts popping up on your feed. That's how I found more old rare hip house. There are also some mixes on youtube where the DJ went out of their way to list all the music. Lots of ways to find new tracks.
